I agree that the ‘best league in the world’ nonsense is exactly that. However-the SPL is a dreadful far cry from the heyday of Scottish football. It’s a seriously poor standard now and if you look at who’s moved there from this league recently it says quite a bit.

Tom Lawrence and Todd Cantwell haven’t exactly stood out for Rangers since they moved
Yeh he's right about English football but sadly wrong about Scottish football. I don't even take joy in saying it, its just a fact that its fucking awful.

Lived there for quite a while and their love for football is on another level. Sadly the quality is the opposite.

Reminds me of Sunderland in more ways than one

Signing for a Scottish club whoever they are is tantamount to either to a lack of ambition or an admission of being not good enough for the Championship in my opinion. The SPL is a truly dreadful league with teams made up of cast offs and substandard players. The proof of this is the performance in Europe of those teams which qualify. Abysmal.

It's league 2 standard for the most part. Bakayoko played in the SPL on loan from Forest Green ffs. I think most people overestimate it if anything. It's dire.

Anyone else always feel this way during the trabsfer window…

Hadn’t considered Browne as a potential signing before about 10 days ago now really hope we land him 😂😃

As someone who had even seen him play once, I may never recover from Brekalo-gate.

It's not though is it. Great history and tradition and 2 of the worlds biggest clubs playing in the worlds biggest derby on more money than here with European football. The media has a lot to answer for with England centric view of football just look at the European competitions this year, how did the 'best league in the world' get on? Had Virgil Van Dijk or Henrick Larsson given up on football when they signed for Celtic

I agree that Celtic and Rangers are two massive clubs but I genuinely think they would struggle to hold their own in the Championship these days

Don't be absurd.
In reality an individual cup run doesn't mean much. Celtic always finish above Rangers yet their recent European record sees them exit to teams from Norway, Hungary, Romania etc...

So basically, the Browne scenario is looking unlikely. If it comes down to us, Celtic or an Italian team, we’re running at least third on his list.

Yeah, only Plymouth, Rotherham & Sheffield Wednesday had a lower wage bill in the official club accounts.

There's always flaws as obviously it's 12 months behind, some were PL clubs, some were L1 etc. & it doesn't just cover playing staff but it's the only accurate figures you will get.

Fwiw, I expect we'll have seen a reasonably substantial increase to ours this year.

1.Leicester City £205.8m

2.Leeds £145.9m

3.Southampton £121.1m

4.Norwich £56.4m

5.Watford £48.7m

6.WBA £45.9m

7.Middlesbrough £29.6m

8.Stoke City £28.2m

9.Birmingham City £27.6m

10.Swansea City £26.6m

11.Bristol City £26.3m

12.Blackburn £25.7m

13.Sunderland £25.6m

14.Hull City £23.6m

15.Millwall £22.5m

16.QPR £22.4m

17.Cardiff City £22.2m

18.Huddersfield £21.5m

19.Preston £20.9m

20.Ipswich £19.7m

21.Coventry City £18.4m

22.Sheffield Wed £15.7m

23. Rotherham £10.2m

24.Plymouth £9.1m
We overachieved massively

Never been to Stoke but someone once said to me Stoke made Coventry look like Knightsbridge.
Err don't think so Skyblue Bangkok.
Granted it's not great but it's no worse than Coventry, believe me I lived up there for nearly 30 years until moving back closer to home last year to South Leicestershire to downsize and be closer to our children.

I have to say the one big advantage Stoke on Trent has over Coventry is the surrounding countryside, The Staffordshire Moorlands is outstanding, breathtakingly beautiful.

That alone is certainly a consideration for anyone thinking of signing for the clayheads and Manchester with its retail experience and vibrant nightlife is easily accessible from there too.

But don't take my word for it, go see for yourself, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Cost tha kick a bo agen a wo an yed it til thee bost eet?

Maybe one day I'll get there but it's a bit far at 6400 miles from where I live.
