Champions

On Netflix. Woody Harrelson as a disgraced NBA coach sentenced to community service coaching adults with intellectual difficulties (eg Down syndrome). Team is played by actual disabled people.

Very heartwarming, I enjoyed it.
I love Woody Harrelson but I feared it might be a bit exploitative, glad to hear it's not the case

My first thing was to google the cast. They seemed happy and reading the interviews everyone seemed to get on well. The reviews did say it felt a bit patronising in places but I’m not sure I agree. Half of the Farrell brothers directed it and they’ve got a pretty good record with disability representation in films IMO.

While since I watched it but can't recall anything striking me as patronising.

Saw a pre-screening of 'Companion' at the Showcase last night.
Really enjoyed it, and it's good the early trailers didn't give away the actual plot. Recommend going to see it without actually reading up about it.

The Presence.

One of those films you`ll either love or hate.

Not a horror film, but more of a slow burning supernatural film.

The camera work takes a bit of getting used, to as it`s filmed as though you`re looking through the eyes of " the presence ".

A seemingly well off and happy family, move into a lovely house in a desirable neighbourhood with their two teenage kids and their daughter starts to sense that something is watching over her in her room.

The plot is very slow to develop, as bit by bit secrets are revealed and things start to unravel, with an ending that you really don`t see coming.

As with all Steven Soderburgh films, it`s a bit different and may not be to every ones taste, but I really enjoyed it.

Going to see it this week.
Looking forward to it, but I've already seen complaints that the trailer was really deceptive as it was being described as "the scariest film of the year" whereas it's more of a family drama

I wouldn`t describe it as scary at all, more that it slowly becomes unsettling, up until the final act, where it really does become frightening.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was really good. Didn't see the ending coming, but there are enough clues throughout for some foreshadowing and it's really moving the more you think about it.

Probably the sort of film you only ever need to see once, but I did like the concept

Watched Blink Twice, was OK, took an age to get going, me and the missus were literally like “alright we get it they’re partying, when is the plot starting” and ending was a little ridiculous IMO but GF liked it as a girl power thing.

Lenny Kravitz’s daughter’s directorial debut apparently, which made me feel old.

Rumours online that Love/hate is coming back, I hope so it was quality

King Nidge is one of the all time great tv anti heroes.

His transformation from low level gang member and doting family man, to the monster he became is standout writing.

From what I`ve read, the new series is going to be a spin off about the Gypsy lad that Nidge was at war with.

Will give the series another view nearer the time, although we never seen Nidge die so could be interesting

I think the problem that the producers would have, is that a lot of the cast have gone from relative unknowns, to really famous and in demand actors and getting them all in one place for a new series would be very difficult.

NOS4A2 ( originally on AMC and now on ITVX - two series )

Best described as a supernatural horror and if you like Stephen Kings stuff you`ll like this.

It`s based on a book by the same name.

A human turned demon feeds off the souls of children he kidnaps and places in his kingdom ( Christmas Land ) and a young woman with supernatural abilities battles against him, as she tries to keep her son out of his clutches.

It`s a bit of strange series this, as some of the episodes have you on the edge of your seat and others are just woeful, almost like they`ve had two sets of writers - one very good and the others not so good.

It`s still worth watching though and I enjoyed it.

Mythic Quest back on Apple TV. Very much my bag. So many good characters in it.

Saw September 5 on Friday. Really, really good. Very impressed with the way the whole film was framed.

The Brutalist this evening. I think it's a little overrated, but the intermission really worked. It was like seeing two average length movies back to back.
The intermission is perfectly placed too, in terms of the narrative.

I watched this and really liked it. It felt like quite a ‘small’ film if that makes sense…and not a horror in the traditional sense at all.
Thanks for the recommendation!

The recruit - decent, easy watch
North shore - same, easy watch detective drama
Unforgotten new series - same as the above

Can tell I've watched a fair bit of TV this week 🤣

Anybody else use trakt?

Cassandra on Netflix. Smart home goes crazy, like most smart home goes crazy movies except German and entirely premised on the idea what if the stupidest motherfuckers alive couldn’t escape a roomba with attitude. A couple of twists but made me incredibly angry. Just turn the fucking power off.

Really good ending too, with all the little clues that had been laid through out the film.

Thought Lucy Lui was very good, playing a role she normally does play too.

Scoop - Netflix.

Terrible name for a surprisingly good film.

Dramatisation of the events leading up to Prince Andrew`s car crash interview with Emily Maitlis on News Night, over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Rufus Sewell is brilliant as Andrew and Gillian Anderson is also wonderful as Maitlis.

Really well written, get supporting cast and a for a Netflix film, it`s a very good film.
