I tried to stop at the M&S food hall on the way into work this morning to pick up some butties for me dinner, only to be told you need to pre-book a slot now.....You can't just turn up & join a queue!

.....so a full english breakfast from the local cafe will just have to suffice:)
Speaking of M&S my mate who works at one in Solihull dropped off pork, turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, goose fat and the real winner..... IMG_20201221_110548.jpg its unbelievably nice

‘Maybe a highly contagious strain of Covid and food shortages which further spoils everyone’s Christmases will teach them’. 🙄

Why people (not just you Bodicote) are tying this to brexit with an ‘I told you so’ attitude is as bad as Farage, Williamson etc on the other side when they were praising us for the (non U.K.) vaccine roll out and suggesting it was because of Brexit. There’s a bit of a difference in countries having extra checks on borders/delays and closing them all together with no notice because of a worldwide pandemic !

If the concerns about this new strain are correct, this could be serious for numerous reasons and not just for us. Everyone closed their borders to denmark when they found the mink strain so it’s understandable until some protocols are put in place....we are just getting our extra dose of shit Covid luck with it being a few days before Christmas. Hopefully on further research/info things will settle down but it’s a bit worrying.

In the meantime there are plenty of genuine issues that could be caused by Brexit and the governments handling of the pandemic to focus on, without trying to lump in the fact that this strain/variant and the ramifications caused, is something we as a country weirdly deserved for voting for either

Ps I will gladly take some of the above rant back if the new strain is some sort of government ruse to justify changing Christmas restrictions (I wish it was/hope it is !) !

edit - just heard port borders with France have reopened which is hopefully the start of some better news ! Fingers crossed
That’s a fair point Steve, and well put. Please don’t tar me with the same brush as Farage & any Conservative 😀

Oh dear sounds like matt may have been premature in talking about a mutant strain and the world has responded to the mutant word rather than the fact

Good response as in measures that had in place for 15 odd years prior incase of a outbreak of a virus.

Why would we? Last outbreak was what Spanish flu in 1918? Majority of viruses originate from Asia so ofcourse they are more prepared than we are.

So given they'd got previous experience with SARS etc and a system set up, why didn't we use it as a template for our own response instead of the route we took?

Wouldn't happen here due to population density and the amount of people here anyway, it's common sense that tells you if we locked down fully most wouldn't listen to. The rules, as they didn't earlier this year.

People would listen if certain things happen.

Firstly, the messaging is clear as to what people must do.
Secondly, those delivering the message set an example of following those rules and are made to pay for it if they don't.

Health and safety has nothing to do with it. It’s a zoonotic virus caused by close proximity of man to animals. We have cases of humans in the U.K. catching bovine TB every year, usually a farmer or vet. Only takes that to mutate and bang, you have a pandemic.

There are climatic conditions in parts of Asia that do favour things like viruses because it gives them ideal conditions to replicate. Other places like Europe have periods of cold that kill them off and keep them in check.

We've had enough of the experts mate. Don't know if you've heard.
There’s part of the problem. We have a government full of people that have been telling us for the last five years that we don’t need to listen to experts now telling us that we need to listen to experts. No surprise that the largest percentage of Covidiots are the same idiots too happy to follow the advice that we’ve had enough of experts.

Yep.....apart from Derry I can't think of any other UK region that has exceeded 1000/100k......

Sadly that won't be the case for long.....
Rugby's doubled in the past week, say the Coventry Telegraph.

Mind you, they also say it's in North Warwickshire...
