The euros final has whacked transmission up hugely.

I think we'll see huge amounts of cases now until Sunday.

Pretty certain we'll then see a decrease even with the reopening on July 19th.

Surely soon the virus is going to run out of people to infect?

Why will it start decreasing from next week? Schools finish next week but that will be a fortnight until that has an affect I presume, then you have the emboldened anti maskers and night clubs opening to throw into the mix

It is going to get very high to be honest, then will fall off quite sharply once it has gone through the unvaccinated or single jabbers

Just feel those who will be going clubbing are the youngsters who the virus seeks to have absolutely ripped through in the last 6 weeks

Surely not many of them left to infect

The people who are likely to go out to nightclubs are the same people who watch the football in bars / at friends. I think the next step has been partially made already.

So, Scotland, Wales... London.

Other mayors calling for the same:

Radio 5 nhs this morning saying 14% of people experience symptoms for 12 weeks or more and 25-34 this goes up to 18% so 1 in 5. That’s a lot of illness when there’s gonna 2m infections a week.

Lots going really well but we really are daft not keeping masks and social distancing for a bit longer

Looks like a u-turn incoming. Definitely needed but we'll see how far they are prepared to go. It seems the law allows TfL to enforce any mask rule as a condition of carriage and therefore issue fines, and of course there's TfL funded transport police to enforce it. Not sure it will be so easy to enforce in other places unless there's a change from the government so its no longer just advised.

Personally I see absolutely no sense in ignoring what we learnt from the test events and continue to use a combination of vaccine passports and negative test results. I don't see how events can be safe otherwise. The latest ONS figures are 1 in 160 people having covid, Javid says cases are expected to triple so that drops to close to 1 in 50 so how is something like a gig at Birmingham Academy for example, indoors, poorly ventilated and people rammed in so you can hardly move, going to be safe?

It won’t be safe but double vaccinated vulnerable people won’t get poorly sick and need hospitals like before

Sensible to have strong messaging/mandated as terms of carriage where possible. Public transport is probably the main confined space where many don’t necessarily choose to be there ie they have to be.

Interesting to see Khan talking about masks on tubes, which I 100% agree with, especially in rush hour… last week I saw no enforcement of mask wearing on the tubes in London and that’s when they are currently mandatory !

Yeah, that's my main concern. tbf it does get hazy in other areas - on the one level I'm all for people choosing to take the risk to go to a small pokey gig, for example... but then there are the staff who work there to consider, and the performers too. In that respect, it has echoes of the debate around the smoking ban in pubs and clubs before it came in.

Transport is the easy, obvious thing to do however, and it doesn't negatively impact on anybody really to do so.

As you mention, it's not like current regs are always enforced and that's where the freedom of choice argument is nonsense. Nobody's going to complain if somebody doesn't wear a mask on an empty carriage, after all, mandated or not!

I saw this today and underneath it there are various comments highlighting that this man is a paid actor, with links to his portfolio website.

It really doesn't help the greater cause if that's true.

If you follow the link you see he's a wannabe actor with a 'portfolio' on a site anyone can sign up for which shows he's been an extra in a couple of adverts a few years back. Few seconds on google shows he works as a floorer.

Not sure its quite the gotcha some are hoping for.
Really? That’s awful, got a link?

But let’s get it right- these stories are made up and they’ve paid actors to pretend they’re sick?

The amount of people i know with Covid at the moment is mad

Id hazard a guess at a good quarter of cov being positive at the mo

What are the actual facts here- it’s an actor who genuinely got sick, or this is fabricated and he’s been paid to make this up?

Who knows, but with that Sarah Everard virgil being littered with paid actors, people have jumped on the bandwagon with this. I guess people can make their own minds up.

Personally have no idea, but thought I would share it on here as it is worth talking about I think.

I would think personally that implying ITV would make this up using actors is heading into conspiracy theory territory but who knows

Right.

Here is why all conspiracy theories are bollocks in a nutshell:

Thousands of people can’t keep a secret. It’s never happened in human history. The end.

No Dave on Twitter hasn’t cracked it wide open. No TruthSeeker420 on YouTube hasn’t found evidence in publicly available media.

No governments haven’t all got together and mind controlled a bunch of scientists and medical professionals to not only lie but keep this lie from everyone they know.

Maybe, just maybe, people with limited critical thinking skills and a penchant for taking half rumours and expanding them into M Night Shayamalan scripts have got the wrong end of the stick.

She had a website (which I can't find now but was listing her under their acting agency at the time.

Taken from another article though:

"Stevenson is a university student, who describes herself as “not an activist or protester”. The 28-year old from Southend is also a part-time model and actress."
