Despite omicron, Covid-19 will become endemic. Here’s how.
The variant has changed how we get from “pandemic” to “endemic,” but that doesn’t mean we’re back to square one.

Yeah I was hoping to do a Google and the overwhelming answer would be that it wouldn't bother us by next year. The feeling seems to be that we don't really know. So every chance the thread could still be going strong.Yep. Sadly.
Erm it is still pretty contagious and unlike COVID it’s always symptomatic. Think it was winter 2018 we had over 20,000 flu deaths despite an established vaccination program. Not sure how this winter’s COVID deaths are looking by comparison
So no quote thenWell yeah, people locked away in their homes while everybody else carries on as normal.
I wouldn't have said that you said it without confirming it first.
The thing with that is testing.
If we got a million people to do Flu Tests every day for a week in December than how many would show they had it without even knowing?
You said you are up for a lockdown of non vacced people. So no quote then
The vast majority of reported cases will be symptomatic given that PCR testing is of people displaying symptoms.
The prevalence of flu is lower as it is nowhere near as transmissible as current variant of COVID and a much lower % of the population get it every season, around 10% or less.
So essentially, you're wrong about the apparent prevalence being because of testing but flu is probably underreported to an extent.

The thing that is often missed is that there will be a group of people locked away in their homes while everybody else carries on as normal so at some point a choice has to be made if the group that suffers should be the vulnerable or those who take the choice not to be vaccinated.Well yeah, people locked away in their homes while everybody else carries on as normal.
Really? It would be irrelevant to test for flu, it’s never asymptomatic
Do you think locking people down who aren't vaxxed would make a difference to them getting Omicron? The thing that is often missed is that there will be a group of people locked away in their homes while everybody else carries on as normal so at some point a choice has to be made if the group that suffers should be the vulnerable or those who take the choice not to be vaccinated.
The advise for the vulnerable, and that's a group that includes millions of people, was updated on Xmas Eve and basically tells them to avoid other people unless they are vaccinated or tested.
Really?
A decent chunk it seems has no symptoms. It can still be passed on (albeit not at the same rate as with symptoms).I could be wrong, but I’ve never heard of asymptomatic flu. The other big difference is that you usually transmit flu after you develop symptoms, not before as with COVID.
There's no perfect solution that will 100% guarantee nobody getting covid. Its about finding a balance where mitigations have minimal impact on peoples everyday lives, especially if this is going to be around long term.Do you think locking people down who aren't vaxxed would make a difference to them getting Omicron?
I don't want the vulnerable to be locked down either to be fair. I just think you are never going to be ever avoid it.There's no perfect solution that will 100% guarantee nobody getting covid. Why are vulnerable people advised to avoid the unvaccinated if it makes no difference to their chances of catching covid? What is your solution to this, the vulnerable are permanently locked down? Personally if we have to make a choice between locking down the vulnerable or those who refuse to get a jab with no good reason I know which group I'm locking down.
They test them further for variants EtcI didnt bother with a PCR. Whats the point?
3 positive as fuck LFT's are surely enough to know, along with fatigue and a cough
Whats the need for a PCR?

Tbh they should abandon confirmation PCR testing, just a waste of time.My daughter has had positive lateral flow tests today. Nearest PCR we could get booked was Glouscester which isn't happening.
Staying in her room isolating.
As I say it’s a different test and is not just used to confirm a positive lftTbh they should abandon confirmation PCR testing, just a waste of time.
Yes, but on the plus side we'll all be able to recite the Greek alphabetDo you think we'll be having the same arguments this time next year?
It's a waste of resource, people should isolate on the basis of symptoms or a positive LFT.As I say it’s a different test and is not just used to confirm a positive lft

Were they? You seem to have a distorted memory. This time last year it was the same people begging for the vaccine, and moaning that people in supermarkets were just trying to get on with their lives as normal despite the risks. So in a way, we’ve done a full 180.
I don't. I've had symptoms but not isolating.They do

I was really trying to get at whether we think the virus will still be influencing the way we live rather than digging anyone out. This time last year it was the same people begging for the vaccine, and moaning that people in supermarkets were just trying to get on with their lives as normal despite the risks. So in a way, we’ve done a full 180.
Yeah I said I'd take a jab from Joshua if it meant an end to it.You in January 2022: The boosters might make you catch Omicron, the goalposts keep being moved, and the evil vaccine companies never want the pandemic to end
You in January 2021:

I'll take a hook as well.
Try harder, that's a bit desperate. Turns out 3 jabs later we are no further so it didn't speed anything up.
Get on the phone to people who can make fridges / devices suitable and get one ordered for every chemist in advance. It was known months ago about the temperature stuff. Get all hands on deck.
