If I was a nurse I'd be livid, they've filled a lot of high level posts with nodding dogs. She's supposed to represent the profession not the government.

She and the other advisors are just human shields. The cowards in government bat every tough question to them. It’s pretty disgusting to be honest.

No. They've ran this country for 10 years. They are my government. The one I pay taxes to.
They are the one I'll hold to account. I'll leave the accountability of other governments to their citizens.
And I'm sure if theres any analysis of the PPE issue done we will fair badly compared to other similar economies.. Though again, I'm really only concerned with our performance.

I still don’t understand why it’s not possible to hold the following views:

1. I am glad that Boris Johnson is recovering
2. Boris Johnson and the U.K. government have done an abysmal job and their failings are continuing to cost lives on a daily basis

Its not really until this crisis that I truly realised how British exceptionalism is weaponised to prevent criticism of our government. Works a treat. Noticed it a bit before when normal social democratic policies from other countries are discussed, but really stark with this crisis.

Depends what you make political though. There are some very relevant things that are of course, and some things used as an excuse to make it political.

So how is lockdown and social distancing being observed over there on this holiday weekend, people being respectful and not heading off to the beach & stuff like that? Unfortunately not so good over here.

On a side note, they were advertising for support workers for the nhs nightingale hospital in London at 9.21 an hour.

They still see people as not being worth a decent wage

You may be right, however I would argue that a lot of people are so used to him saying ridiculous and tasteless things that they are desensitised to it all, rather than them approving of it.

It’s typical gallows humour massively over stated as being important

I've been out since early this morning. Not going back home for hours.

Working the whole bank holiday weekend. My birthday on Monday. A night shift either side of it. So get to go out twice on my birthday. Can't wait.

And their propaganda is already working, I've seen quite a few mentions recently on social media of people blaming NHS management for not having enough PPE in place.

It's a procurement issue is it not? I suggested last night we should bypass the yanks and produce it ourselves. If they won't release the products we need, they have left us no choice really.

I'm not sure, I went out for a walk yesterday (along country lanes which are literally on my doorstep) it was quiet, more so than on the working days

Should be a position that you’re voted into by your fellow nurses, surely. Any government, that’s any government could just appoint any nodding donkey if not.

this probably comes down to the new approach Cummings and the right want to take- “no experts” etc

turns out though that when facing a lethal virus that can kill a thousand people per day and shut down the entire planet, some actual expertise might not have been a bad idea

Gallows humour? So you’re fine with people suggesting that they’d throw a party if Boris died? Gallows humour remember.

I would say that an example of the paucity of the ability to govern is seen in the way we started a gofundme campaign for Big Ben to ring on Brexit Day some time after the government had received a full briefing on COVID19’s imminent arrival and people had started dying. Brexit was genuinely more important to plan for. Zero common sense or leadership, and this government has spectacularly failed in its most basic duty- keeping its citizens alive.

Oh the hypocrisy. So when I say Boris should take it on the chin that's not gallows humour? It's disgusting and crass and abhorrent and I'm a c**t?

Don't know why I'm even bothering to argue with you, what's the fucking point

The take on the chit comment again - sigh

To be fair to the Mail their headlines do seem to be on point and related to the Coronavirus whereas the sun seems to have moved Dear Deidre to the front page. Even the Express have gone with a front page of Desperate nurses Easter plea. The Sun showing how substandard they are.
It has a largely sub standard readership to be honest
