How does that give you any useful information about the kids? Is that a school/trust directive?

Yup and in the missus’ case means she’ll get several hundred essays written with no word or time limit. Trying to use Dom’s Positive Thinking mix tape but it’s not easy

May as well get the kids to Mark it at home as well from the sounds of that. Is that internal? I switched off from examination talk once they told me I wouldn’t get paid this year.

Yep but because we still have to write reports student marked papers would be pointless. At least in my case some of the answers can be auto marked

I was being facetious about the marking, isn’t that basically a honour system though? Hard to imagine the parents I know that produce near professional quality homework for their kids not at least hovering and giving help if not outright taking the tests for them.

Sounds madness. No way to check if the work is theirs and so any grading is unusable - feel for the both of you.

It’s about trying to appear fully functional

Fuck off! Really?

Send her the best of luck.

It’s insane and she gets anxious at the best of times so it’s sent that into overdrive. She did nearly break the screen yesterday when the dude said ‘some people have been working throughout this you know’

The ultimate madness is that my missus is getting one of her remote lessons observed tomorrow morning
I don’t mind the observation and support even with my union hat on but I do mind judgement or pressure. Especially when it’s not clear what the observation is for or even worse when it’s clear what it’s for and then it’s used to do something else

Their own scientific advisers seem to be distancing themselves (pardon the pun)
With yesterday’s briefing and now this I’m getting the impression that the scientists are positioning to throw the government under the bus before the government throws them under. They’ve probably realised by watching Starmer dismantle Boris this government of poor man’s Diane Abbott’s are easily hung out to dry by simply stating facts.

Corrected for you

The University issue is gonna really hit hard...

..If I was enrolled, there is no way i'd pay the full £9K for an online course.......may as well go to the Open University who are cheaper and have been doing it well for years.

Taking the long term view, I suppose it can be seen as an opportunity to fix the broken HE model..... but its gonna get messy

I would mind it less if

a) We were remote teaching as a form of experiment and not in a pandemic

b) It was to see different ways of remote teaching being delivered instead of to scrutinise the teacher (as has been implied)

c) The school wasn’t throwing out all kinds of excuses for kids who aren’t doing any work or showing up to remote lessons

Observations are a normal part of this job though they can be and are used in a malicious way sometimes. Under these circumstances they shouldn’t be happening at all unless voluntary.
