I know I’ll get called a Tory for saying this (standard !) but some of the nonsense on here is getting crazy. Yes, we possibly should’ve stopped flights earlier in the outbreak (although the scientific advisors said their was no point) and people, not unreasonably, complained at the time. We temporarily stop the Spain air bridge and ask people to quarantine when they return and the same people still complain ?!

The same people who are worried about going back to the office because of the risk appear to be arguing against something to try to minimise the spread/risk ?!

Loads of conspiracy theories that don’t make any sense (if we wanted people to holiday here surely we wouldn’t have agreed the air bridges to start with ?!)

There’s been fuck ups by the government but why pick at every single decision being made, especially when they contradict other issues you might have ?!

Just try to keep some perspective in this shitstorm. Some decisions will be right, some wrong. We’re all in the same boat (apart from Trump who’s on another planet)


Ps I think Spain had 2.6k confirmed cases on Thursday and 2.2k Friday. We’re around 700-800 and we appear to doing more/targeted testing. Several EU countries are also considering closing their borders to Spain.

I'm not arguing against it at all, I'm just commenting on the rationale

Current CFR is 15% so based on that, assume 150 deaths per day is a number the gov are comfortable with.

Was with 5 friends on Saturday night, 4 of them and me are both due to go to different places in Spain within the next month. We were all devastated.

I have a house in Mallorca and now if I went I would have to take unpaid leave from work for the self-isolation period.

Both sets of islands (canaries and balearics) are a total different animal to the mainland and the government were discussing lifting the ban for these places as there are very little cases. After being under pressure to do so, they surprisingly totally u-turned and then the FCO added the islands to also be on the no travel list as well as the quarantine list. I guess it was easier for them to do that rather than admit they were wrong.

Yep just what I've seen reported in Greek outlets, mind you this is a country that never had more than 10 deaths in a day.

I've read some reports that you need to complete the form (PLF) when you come back as well, and the gov.uk website does seem to confirm that, have you seen anything about this? I'd have thought it would be more of a news story if the form did need completing for the return, and that's making me doubt it.

Wound up to shit over all this, WE ARE FUCKING CLEAR BORIS, anyway i had friends arrive last night to surprise me and it's been so good. Don't think they could have timed it better as with this latest news i think i would have had a breakdown but with my friends being here they have kept me more positive. I just hope the rules change in tourism favour out here as fast as they changed against us.

Had a dam good steak meal tonight, cooked to perfection. I don't normally eat in their as it's expensive and i even get a discount but my friends said just have what you want, when you had money you always looked after us so just accept it back and enjoy. Proper friends, most don't remember what you done for them 25 years ago.

What is concerning me currently is there still doesn’t quite seem to be acceptance that we are in this for the long haul and as such solutions and measures are either not robust enough or short term in thinking.

The narrative still seems to be get cases down a bit then we can start to go back to “normal”. There are second waves happening virtually everywhere that has lowered restrictions already.

Even this thing about isolation after returning from Spain seems pointless. It’s surely cheaper and more effective to test everyone who comes back?

Every country needs to test every individual that comes in. Every country needs a robust track and trace system that covers virtually its whole population.

Giving people the option to write down their name and contact details when going to the pub so somebody can try and ring round if there is a local outbreak is pissing in the wind. I think we also need to start thinking about restructuring society and economies around it. Tourism isn’t going to work if we’re trying to turn it on and off randomly.
