Cheers Lynch, I think you were right with inside info last week so I'm starting to believe this now. No real surprise to me as we're talking SISU here: how to wreck a clubs promotion chances before the season has even started or what  :jerkit:Also thorn has actually indicated to the players not to sign it. Its out of his hands, its behind the scenes of our club that has told the players.
I understand and agree with a pay cut for the existing players but if this is true i would expect every player who agreed a different contract with bonus included which is now being changed, to stop training and refuse to play until the PFA get involved. What is it with Sisu not feeling that a binding contract is legal,,,seems trouble is not far ahead again..
The stupidest thing about this thread is how many people denounce the original poster by saying "Baker came here 2 years ago, he got Sky then" as if they know anything about him at all. "All footballers have Sky..." - whatever
Anyway, if this is true then it's no bad thing. We need to cut costs, so it's reasonable to ask the players to make a sacrifice when it was partly their fault that we went down. Baker is just as responsible for anyone, I still haven't forgiven him for his reprehensible performance at Southampton. I can see the players' point of view though.
Chief executive Tim Fisher said: 'Everyone connected with the club knows that our budgets have been slashed because of relegation. However, this is as much about creating a culture that motivates success not mediocrity. The club paid out the thick end of £1million in bonuses last season - in a year when we were relegated. We feel this is not acceptable and had to change. The players have responded in engaging in mature sit down discussions.'
on the back page of the telegraph there is a report on this about SISU playing hardball and refusing players bonuses:facepalm:nothing like making the players want to play for the badge is there :facepalm:
1-0 to the OP, Speedie and Lynch.
You're right, as the reported £1M in bonuses last season proved to be highly motivational, didn't it?
not saying it is right to pay bonuses for players that fail but to have this decided not even a week before the start of the season does not help matters and will not motivate the players, this should of been sorted a while ago
My dads just got back from work. He's an engineer for SKY and fitted Carl Bakers SKY TV today. Before any of you comment, my dad has zero interest in football so there's be no reason for him to make this up. He wouldn't even know what he was talking about if he wasn't told it.
Carl told him that he may be dropped to the bench for this entire season. This is for wage reasons. Each player was asked to take a 20% wage drop, to which only 4 accepted (Carl being one of them). They have then asked all the players to give up their bonuses.
Baker told my dad that he was told that if he does not sign the new contact without the bonuses then he will be dropped to the bench for the entire season. He said he would drop the bonuses from his contact, if he were to get the 20% of his original wages back.

Can anyone think of a football club who has successfully forced their players to take a pay cut against their wishes? I can believe that SISU may threaten things, but when it comes to practical reality, they'd simply never get away with it.
Still, you can almost see them now.."Got it: not only do we not pay the rent..we don't pay the players either! The perfect plan for re-structuring the business. We're through the looking glass here, people.."
Good thoughts NLHWC
It almost seems like SiSU are trying to derail the club before a ball is kicked, in court over defaulted rent agreement, and now trying to Bully and threaten players over their contracts, on the eve of the new season, we need players in the right frame of mind, not side tracked, and worrying about their
contracts, why are some people saying its far fetched, sounds like typical SISU to me.
It sounds like a football club actually behaving like a proper business for once. Good.
Your info was correct it seems and those that disbelieved and even made up their own stories (like he's already got Sky) owe you an apology.
Let's face it getting Sky in another room wasn't beyond all possibility and when someone is frustrated about something they might talk to someone who'll listen even if they're a stranger.
I absolutely agree. Players, like all of us, should earn their money. We have been relegated, they should shoulder some of the blame along with Sisu and Thorn. They'll hardly be on the breadline will they?
Just offer them a promotion bonus and see how we do then.

With this coming to light now it makes it even more obvious that Cranie and Keogh were never going to stay.
