The Club Owners that, in one 35 mile move, have done more than any other to lose a generation of fans than any other get this accolade!!! I ****ing despair of the Football League. "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right."

This is odd, how can you give an award like this to a club that's moved 35 miles away from families that want to go. How many can no longer attend?

On top of that in the last SCG minutes it said they had to have a whip round to keep the JSBs going, hardly sounds like the club deserve an award if things like that are happening.

Maybe they have a point. We don't go to Northampton so we are spared the misery of all those years with season tickets. It could be an award for giving 10000 people their lives back at weekends.

The Sky Blues are handed an award recognising outstanding experience provided for young fans and families
Coventry City has been awarded ‘The Football League Family Excellence Award’ for the 2013/14 season.

Created in 2007, the Award recognises the outstanding experience provided by clubs for young fans and families as part of a scheme that won the Gold Award at the European Professional Football Leagues’ Best Practice Awards, earlier this season.

A total of 47 clubs from across all three divisions of The Football League have been given the Award for 2014, the same number as in 2013 despite a significant increase in the benchmark standard being applied by the judging panel.

More than ever this year, Football League clubs are providing families with engaging family areas and offering innovative matchday entertainment that delivers a money can’t buy experience for young fans. ????????

In announcing the successful clubs, Football League Chief Executive, Shaun Harvey, said: “The Football League Family Excellence Award gives clubs a standard to aspire to when planning their efforts to attract more families and young fans to their matches.

“It is hugely encouraging to see so many clubs receiving the accolade, demonstrating The Football League’s ongoing commitment to securing the next generation of fans.”

Seven clubs secured the award for the seventh year running – Doncaster Rovers, Huddersfield Town, Ipswich Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers and Yeovil Town. Two clubs, Blackburn Rovers and Port Vale, have been awarded the accolade for the first time.

The award recipients are decided by an independent assessment using real families that has been commissioned by The Football League, at all 72 League clubs, during the 2013/14 season.

slightly misleading

The word THE - should be replaced by the word A
as over half of the teams have received this

God knows how we are in that half
The only families left must be the players' families - so i guess they are getting a great experience

Live and eat with a player all week - - Not all clubs can offer that to all of their young fans

Yeah, I know it's easy to take the piss and the circumstances are pretty laughable but for youngsters like my son who don't understand the politics of it all, Coventry City is his life, it's all he thinks about and they do a lot for the kids there, which I guess they have to.

Feel free to have a go obviously.

Its great that they do a lot for the kids who are there but isn't the overriding point those that aren't there due to us being in Northampton? Also a question of how much is actually done by the club and how much by volunteers. Wasn't it said that the JSB Xmas party was not organised by the club and at the last SCG meeting they had to have a whip round to fund the JSBs, something I would expect the club to be covering. Makes you wonder how bad those that haven't won are.

Its not the people that go there torchy that i am having a go it its the FL they are just a joke how can they award this to a club that has driven 90% of its fan base away ?

It's up there with Katie Prices mum of the year award.
In all seriousness folk like Pat Raybould put a lot of effort into making the day as special as it can be for the kids and it's great that this has been recognised. One day all this s**t will be over and those kids will be adults taking their kids.

My first reaction is ...........unbelievable how

It seemed from the headline we won out of all the FL clubs, but in actual fact it is a quality award given to many

but

This is based on the people who do go so as such it doesn't consider the circumstances of being in Northampton only family attendance at a "home" ground. People like Pat Raybould do a great job for the kids for free. The kids are the long term future of the club. The fact the SCG had to have a whip round to raise money to support it tells you all you need to know really as far the Club goes.

So well done to the likes of Mrs Raybould. Those kids that do go obviously enjoy what goes on there - what young kid wouldn't its a great adventure to them and they don't care about the off field stuff.

so how many years have CCFC won this award?
If it is not 7 why not ?
what is the benchmark you have to reach?
Why is it not properly funded by CCFC?
How do the club intend to back this in future so it isn't hand to mouth reliant on such things as a £5 per head SCG member collection?
If the kids are so important what's a few 100 quid from the club?

You have to wonder why any club would fail to meet the benchmark but 25 did?

Well judging by the usual "faint hearts" on here and Twitter, no not really. It suggests from the headline that this award has been given solely to Coventry City rather than 46 other teams too.

Just to clarify a few points;

The JSB zone is ran by volunteers. It's there to try and keep the next generation of supporters interested. Is that such a bad thing? And if it's receiving an award, should it not be praised rather than ridiculed given the circumstances?

Also, The club did arrange the JSB Christmas Party and the volunteers just arranged games and crafts.

Finally, the SCG did not make donations to keep the JSBs going but sponsored the zone to enable children to receive goody bags at the final game of the season. It was not a 'whip round' to keep it going.

Hmm... on the one side there's no doubt that the people looking after the kids who do go to Northampton are doing a good job.

On the other side the club, by their actions, have ensured that a far larger number of people who would take their kids, can or will no longer do so.

I don't see how the club deserve an award on this basis; they've undoubtedly provided some families with an 'outstanding experience', but the FL have taken no account of the far worse experience (not being able to watch a game at all) that the majority left behind have had.

Irrespective of it being at Sixfields I think I made it clear that such activities are essential. The kids are the future of CCFC and what ever can be done to get their attention should be done - the club should lead the way in that. It takes more time than money to have something that we as fans can have some pride in ...... ie the engagement of the kids in CCFC. Just think the club can and should do more (no matter who the owners are)

Am pleased sw88 could clarify a few things. But there really shouldn't be any need to ask for an SCG whip round for these activities even as a one off.

No one is saying the people doing the work aren't doing a good job, they are saying it's not the club that are doing it and / or funding it. If the JSB area is run by volunteers and subsidised by the SCG why have the club been given an award? If the award had gone to Pat there wouldn't be any complaints.
