who cares?
What makes you think they want to retain the name duffer?
There's something there in the quote from the original article, about retaining all of the rights and history or something like that. I read that as meaning that they were claiming Coventry City Ladies as their own, despite now being Coventry United Ladies.
I could well be wrong, but it struck me as an odd thing to say...
The Ladies Club have been trying to post the response below since yesterday afternoon. I now add the paragraphs following on behalf of the Club without personal comment.
A number of the points made during the course of this thread show a degree of misunderstanding of the circumstances relating to Coventry City Ladies and its new identity as Coventry United Ladies. While we respect the rights of members to comment, we would like to take this opportunity to put the record straight for the purpose of providing some clarity.
1) Changes of name and kit made without consultation
The final decision to change kit/badge/name was taken AFTER consultation with the majority of those associated with the Ladies’ club ie.players, staff and parents ....and AFTER we had met with Steve Waggot and members of CCFC staff.
In the case of the Ladies club, there are relatively few regular supporters who have no other connection to the club. While a very small number have expressed their disappointment, the move has been welcomed by most of our “family”.
2) The Ladies needed extra funding to cover the cost of playing in the FA Premier League South
Playing in the South adds approximately an extra 5% to our annual budget. Negotiations with Coventry United were completed prior to the Ladies being constituted to play in the South (subject to FA Premier League sanction and FA approval) so was simply not a factor in any decision.
3) CCLFC made a conscious decision to relocate outside the City boundary for financial gain
The Ladies moved back to the Bedworth Oval when displaced from Ricoh Arena as a direct consequence of Wasps moving in and playing matches on Sundays.
Ricoh Arena is the ONLY football ground within the City boundary that meets FA Women’s Premier League Ground Grading criteria.
This prevents us from naming (say) Sphinx, Copsewood, Higgs etc. as a first option home ground.
The Bedworth Oval is the nearest facility that meets the prescribed minimum criteria and is of an excellent standard.
4) The move to Bedworth was to get into Northern section at the expense of Copsewood
The suggestion that the move to Bedworth Oval was undertaken in order to jettison another Coventry team to the South is well-wide of the mark.
Ricoh Arena was already further north and the subsequent return to the Bedworth Oval had zero impact on the allocation of Copsewood to the Southern Section.
5) CCLFC chose not to play the County Cup Final at the Ricoh
The venue for the Birmingham County Cup Final is chosen (surprisingly enough!) by the Birmingham County FA.
We did facilitate an introduction for the County FA committee to meet with ACL management staff (and even worded Copsewood's plea to host the 2013-14 Final at Ricoh Arena …on Copsewood's behalf!).
Although the final featured two teams from Coventry, Birmingham FA made their choice of Banks’s / Bescott Stadium in Walsall based on consideration of all factors they considered relevant.
6) CCLFC deliberately played their games on a Sunday during 2013/14 season to clash with CCFC games at Sixfields
We do not choose when we play; Sunday 14:00 is the kick off time designated by the FA (it can be varied by mutual consent between clubs +/- 2 hours) and that has always been the case.
The conflicting kick off times came about because Northampton Town fixtures had priority at Sixfields, obliging CCFC to move home matches to a Sunday on nine occasions during 2013-14.
7) CCLFC antagonistic actions show that relationships with CCFC were beyond repair
The working relationship between the Ladies’ club and CCFC has always been excellent; and our last meeting on 1st July at which we consulted on our impending changes was as cordial and friendly as ever. Both parties wish only the best for each other in future and there is certainly nothing antagonistic about our move. Most of the Directors of the Ladies’ club are long-standing supporters of CCFC and will remain so.
8) Funding from CCFC has been denied because CCLFC Directors (specifically our Finance Director) acted to deprive CCFC of revenue through the boycott of Sixfields
CCFC have never funded the Ladies. They have provided no cost support (such as matchday programme page/and exposure for upcoming games, etc). This is not a situation that has changed since the current Ladies' club was reformed in 1991 and it has not changed before, during or after the season that CCFC spent at Sixfields.
Our Finance Director was only appointed in February 2015, sometime AFTER CCFC returned to the Ricoh Arena and his appointment has had no bearing or impact on any aspect of the relationship between the Ladies club and CCFC.
In conclusion, we trust that these responses correct any unfortunate misunderstandings and we are gratified to see so much interest in the future of the Ladies, and in the women’s game generally.
United we Achieve.
Excellent reply. Hopefully putting to bed lot of conclusions that were jumped to!
As I've said before...Good luck to the ladies team. Hopefully one team from the city will be in.the Premier league before too long!
That's your opinion - speak for yourself - are you a board member as well?
I too wish Coventry ladies well....I wish they were a part of the greater Coventry City family but unfortunately they are not. I think an opportunity has been missed by the men's and women's teams by not forging closer links. I will always be sky blue and I hope/trust CCFC will form a new team. In the meantime good luck CUL

[h=3]Meaning[/h]My mistake - I'm to blame.
[h=3]Origin[/h]This slang term originated in about 1970. At that time, that is, pre the widespread use of the Internet, slang terms often circulated at street level for many years before being adopted by anyone who felt inclined to write them down. That's clearly not the case any longer of course and any word or phrase that is widely known is dateable quite precisely via website logs.
The first citation in print is C. Wielgus and A. Wolff's, 'Back-in-your-face Guide to Pick-up Basketball', 1986:
"My bad, an expression of contrition uttered after making a bad pass or missing an opponent."There you go pumpkin!!
Makes one sound like a bellend
Interesting idea there. Imagine if we (CCFC) did (some miracle, TM would become a saint!) get promoted. I wonder if it would be beneficial, economically or ideologically to create a new CCFC ladies team. Would the possibility to 'switch' back be feasible? Or like you suggest, would a new team be more likely to be set up?
It could be the Liverpool spawning from Everton of the ladies game!
Yes I believe a club should be based in and part of its community. We CCFC supporters understand the chaos, division and heartache when that is undermined. With women's football on a high after the World Cup and with its development at grass roots and league level over the last few years interest in the game from young girls through to the wider public will in my opinion grow further. Wouldn't it be ironic if in Coventry the United, copsewood and a future CCLFC develop a rivalry and standard of football that is the envy of the rest of the country

Absolutely. Would be great for all

Maybe small at the moment but I think women's football is growing and will develop over the next few years. As the media takes more interest so more people will participate in and watch the game

There is no evidence it is growing. It is absurdly over hyped by the BBC.
Now the competition has gone it's back to

Bollocks.
I can't imagine it costs a huge amount to run the ladies side. Are any of their players full time and salaried? If they aren't then the costs are surely in line with the likes of Sphinx. Would have thought if they made it known they needed backing and started a fundraising drive they wouldn't need to resort to a total rebranding.
Its not like this has come after months or years of them saying they have financial difficulties or are in danger or ceasing to exist.
I was told by one of the board members at Coventry Utd and by one of the coaches of the ladies team who I know through my work. You judgmental prick
Why does it matter which board member it was? I'm talking about the subject of this thread, not what happened in the past.Which board member was that? The one who tried to encourage fans to not support ccfc and support their team instead?
What's officially stated and the reality are two different things. Two people who know what has happened behind the scenes told me that CCFC had very little intention of investing in ladies football. What those investments include are renting Bedworth Utd's 3G pitch (it is expensive), training costs, kit costs etc.Didn't the ladies team post that the working relationship was excellent?
Of course you do. Another stick to beat the club with. What's officially stated and the reality are two different things. Now personally I think in the long term CCFC are missing a trick as ladies football is on the rise.

Reading up it seems we haven't made ourselves clear enough. For the record:
i) the Ladies club has always had a very good relationship with CCFC. Steve Waggott has attended past board meetings and even came to Wembley to support our Super League application. There is not and never has been an issue between us.
ii) Playing in the south adds approx 5% to our annual budget.
iii) Our budget is almost certainly considerably more than that of local non league sides.
