Dean Austin position untenable (1 Viewer)

Aberdeen and Blackpool, poor compared to Dean Austin’s Farnborough Town?

Badlan uncovered some absolute gems, Austin’s uncovered some expensive donkeys.

You’ve said Simms is a donkey yourself.
Hamer was certainly a gem. Gyokeres was already playing in the same league.

Surely by that metric, signing Simms and Wright who have generally been a success, means Austin should also be let off for singing a load of shit too.

Badlan brought in a few very good players definitely, but he still hasn't proved he would be capable of spending the same amount of money as Austin in a better capacity. He's now working at Aberdeen after being sacked from Blackpool. Not really a glowing rep, and not to mention the leaking of team sheets.

There's some rose tinted glasses here.
If the head of recruitment brings in players who take the team to a higher level and/or get sold on for a profit then you can safely say they’ve done a good job. By those metrics Badlan was better than anyone we’ve ever had. Not sure how else you’d want to rate him?

Can we stop using an FA cup game, which I doubt Man U were massively bothered about and in which we played really poorly in the first half as some sort of measure of our previous greatness?
I think the sooner people accept that the Wolves and Man United games were aberrations, the quicker we can get serious about who belongs at this club. The rest of the cup run tells us next to nothing about this team’s quality.

Agree but Gyokeres had a failed loan spell in the league and was hardly a recognise name, it took 6 months for people to learn how to say how his name in fact. Badlan spotted the raw attributes.

Simms is just an expensive Tyler Walker. At least Badlan made that mistake at a far lower cost!

Austin such a weird appointment. Your scour leaves outside the window. You’ve got a takeover on the cards. Why bring someone in?

Couple of questions really:

1. Is Austin that bad or is it more that our expectations are unrealistic in believing every signing to hit the heights of Vik / Hamer?
2. Is the criteria he's given too data focussed and / or too potential future returns focussed?
3. Is the season's performance now solely down to the quality of the squad?

But the takeover was agreed and just waiting for approval. Very weird not to have either a hiring freeze or King approving at that point
King wouldn’t have been able to have any formal input. Presumably Robins (quite reasonably) let the club management know that we needed someone to replace Badlan in time for the January window, whoever the owner was.

He was a Robins appointment and Robins' judgement was rightly trusted by all at the time be that Joy or the incoming King who signed him up to a new contract.
Not sure why it matters who signed it off tbh.

Does it matter if he was a friend or not though? Was brought in by Mark and Dave and even if you can make the argument that Doug signed off he’s hardly going to reject A manager he thought highly of and Dave is he?

Just a curious time to make an appointment. It was end of December not like he’s going to do much before the window.
