Hamer was certainly a gem. Gyokeres was already playing in the same league.Aberdeen and Blackpool, poor compared to Dean Austin’s Farnborough Town?
Badlan uncovered some absolute gems, Austin’s uncovered some expensive donkeys.
You’ve said Simms is a donkey yourself.
If the head of recruitment brings in players who take the team to a higher level and/or get sold on for a profit then you can safely say they’ve done a good job. By those metrics Badlan was better than anyone we’ve ever had. Not sure how else you’d want to rate him?Surely by that metric, signing Simms and Wright who have generally been a success, means Austin should also be let off for singing a load of shit too.
Badlan brought in a few very good players definitely, but he still hasn't proved he would be capable of spending the same amount of money as Austin in a better capacity. He's now working at Aberdeen after being sacked from Blackpool. Not really a glowing rep, and not to mention the leaking of team sheets.
There's some rose tinted glasses here.
I think the sooner people accept that the Wolves and Man United games were aberrations, the quicker we can get serious about who belongs at this club. The rest of the cup run tells us next to nothing about this team’s quality. Can we stop using an FA cup game, which I doubt Man U were massively bothered about and in which we played really poorly in the first half as some sort of measure of our previous greatness?
Think he left to be at Blackpool and then got fired there for leaking? Was Badlan fired?
Hamer was certainly a gem. Gyokeres was already playing in the same league.
He took a Director of Football job at Blackpool (still in the Championship at the time) and took one of his top scouts with him.Was Badlan fired?
Was Badlan fired?
It was essentially a promotionNo left for Blackpool. Not sure why.
I
Because he’s a personal friend of the manager who gives him a glowing referenceAustin such a weird appointment. Your scour leaves outside the window. You’ve got a takeover on the cards. Why bring someone in?

Probably Boddy. But who signs off on that? Joy? Doug?
Doug wasn’t the owner by that point so I assume it was Boddy. But who signs off on that? Joy? Doug?
By the way where did this come from that he’s a friend?
Dean Austin?Cool. It was Blackpool that fired him for leaking team news wasn't it... If we did that i don't think we'd have anyone left at the club.
By the way where did this come from that he’s a friend?
Wankincense if they are failsNext time.
If they are good, put gold.
If they are fails, put frankincense.
Doug wasn’t the owner by that point so I assume it was Boddy.
No it doesn’t, but you know how this place works.
King wouldn’t have been able to have any formal input. Presumably Robins (quite reasonably) let the club management know that we needed someone to replace Badlan in time for the January window, whoever the owner was.But the takeover was agreed and just waiting for approval. Very weird not to have either a hiring freeze or King approving at that point
Dean Austin?
Gold, Frankenstein and Grrrrr.Next time.
If they are good, put gold.
If they are fails, put frankincense.
And I'm a virgin!Gold, Frankenstein and Grrrrr.
Somebody must get this one!.....
He was a Robins appointment and Robins' judgement was rightly trusted by all at the time be that Joy or the incoming King who signed him up to a new contract.
Not sure why it matters who signed it off tbh.
