This world is fucked.

You of course realise that this and the similar tweets are the daily count of the rockets fired on Israel.

(I'm certainly not making a case for the Israeli response).

I'm not here to argue the toss. Just think a state tweeting emojis of rockets is a good fucking barometer of how fucked the situation is.

It's very Black Mirror.

Had a revelation yesterday after my lad asked me what we can do about Israel and Palestine and it’s nothing. There is nothing he or I can do. So what can we do? Well mostly seek justice in our own lives and live lives that grow characters that seek peace not hate. Now that’s a challenge

Well...

Also quite an interesting/harrowing read on the forum of The Football Ramble, who has one member from Palestine and reporting on what’s happening over there - The Football Ramble Forum | The *new* International Politics (& society) thread

Fucking hell. I don't know enough about it to comment and someone summed it up on there perfectly the exact reason I stay quiet on it.

But then the problem with that argument is that when you’re underqualified to speak on it in detail, as I am, you worry about overlapping with the genuine anti-Semitic cranks that exist on the left and so the easier solution on a personal level is to stay silent, which is of course an entirely unhelpful position to take.

That's one of their tamer tweets. Imagine if your apartment block in Gaza had just been flattened only to then be the subject of a before and after meme.

There’s no good guys in this latest round of trouble between Israel and Palestinian. These tweets prove that. It’s about time that the international community started arms embargo’s on rogue states like Israel and Saudi Arabia. We have an arms embargo with Myanmar largely because of humanitarian atrocities why not Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Whilst I'm not sure you can compare to Myanmar, the answer would be because US and Saudi Arabia are world powers who we need to appease. Our stopping sales to Israel would make no difference whatsoever, though as a point of principle we should, that principle being less about the use of the arms than Israel's expansionist policy, itself driven by the US.

Germany doesn’t need to appease the US and Saudi Arabia. They extended their arms embargo to Saudi for another 12 months last December and they’ll review it again then. They’ve done this specifically on Saudi’s involvement in Yemen. Why can’t we take the same stance?

Because we are a colony of the US ('special relationship'), and therefore also SA. Also, we don't make cars and washing machines - the Germans have corned that market.

More YouGov culture war stuff, actually think the difference between what Wokies think is woke and what non-wokies do is interesting.

Some interesting stuff there.

One that pops out at me is that those who consider themselves woke appear to view their position on racial equality and sexual orientation as being much more of an altered state of conscious than those who feel that it is part of everyday consciousness; and that actions such as taking away the voice of those who express alternative positions are considered by those professing to be woke as not reducing wakefulness.

Surprised that only half of those professing not to be woke thought that the Guardian was woke - I'd thought the figure would have been off the scale.

I want to meet the people that consider both themselves and Nigel Farage woke

What I find really interesting is aside from the views on Corbyn, Biden, Johnson, and Farage, the two sides are totally talking past each other.

One side is saying fairly normal views like climate change, LGBT rights, anti racism are “woke” and therefore anyone anti work would surely be a terrible person, but those who are anti woke seem to see them as givens and care more about statues and speakers, neither of which the wokes seem to care about.

So let’s all agree to not be racist cunts and leave statues alone and crack on with our lives shall we?
