I think trying to circumvent the Brexit vote is what has done it. Momentum - who last time I heard were a fringe group in their own echo chamber, wasn’t the reason the Red Wall voters crossed the divide so to speak.

It wasn’t. Polling really dropped off a cliff after his Skripol response. He was artificially inflated in 2017 as Remain voted as a block and wanted to stop May having a free reign (plus May was awful). Brexit didn’t help but Corbyn himself was clear as equally at fault in all the polling.

He played into all the negative tropes about Labour: anti-British, promise the Earth and don’t know how to pay for it, SJW, etc etc.

That attutude surely only sees you through to a certain point .

Eventually the electorate will turn their back on him no matter who is in charge of Labour

He’s on a downward trajectory since the vaccine bounce wore off TBF. I think his shtick will wear thin pretty quickly and he’ll get the boot or leave himself. Lots of rumours he doesn’t like the job. If Sunak or similar looks a better bet they’ll be in.

Unfortunately Labour are looking bereft of ideas right now. Don’t even need to be amazing, just Biden style steady and they’d be OK.

It's a savage indictment of the resources available across Europe (including us) that we ask for an extension of the deadline to evacuate people, it's refused... and the best we can do is leave earlier than the Americans, because we just don't have the resources to do anything else.

If that's the case, best not to attach ourselves to America whenever they go into conflicts, really. Let them mop up after themselves, but not have us be collatoral damage, too.

The U.K. I think would have stayed on but Merkle - who really is the Eu - pretty much downed tools as soon as they were getting out.

Nah, none of us have the resources or will. This isn't an EU / UK thing, and it's more showing how feeble a 'military coalition' is, really.

And that's pretty pathetic really. I'm not exactly for foreign intervention(!) but it's not the fault of the people sent in and, given they're there, they need proper support.

It’s endemic of US and UK foreign policy of the last 30 years. It’s also Trumps deal so it’s disingenuous to lump this solely on Biden although undoubtedly this could have been handled a lot better.

Yep. Unless our sovereign territory has been invaded or it’s at least passed a UN vote and part of a wider led UN coalition we should just stay out of it as far as military action is concerned.

I think we tried to pull together an allied coalition without US and only Turkey put their hand up.

It’s been pathetic all round dating back to the original strategy/plan....since then pouring tens of billions into a corrupt government, poor withdrawal planning, poor intelligence regarding speed of Taliban advancement, lack of urgency in accelerating civilian withdrawal (ahead of military) to name a few.

As you say, whether anyone agrees with the original intervention or not, once there then theres different decisions to be made to deliver to support promised ie maintaining limited background military support for Afghans against Taliban...or if you do withdraw, ensure it’s done it a structured way to get people out safely and hopefully connected to some kind of deliverable ‘peace deal’ (what that would be worth who knows). Shambles

this is a private operation funded by U.K. people and Wallace has done all he can to try and stop it happening

If that is true then that is sad. The fact the bloke is now pleading with the Taliban on twitter to let him get to the airport with his animals makes me feel uneasy. He has 60 something staff as well, which I assume some are locals.

How’s this c**t still in the cabinet?

Actually. How was this c**t ever let anywhere near the cabinet?

I couldn't go in the sea when we travelled up to Blackpool last week as it was out of order.

Reports now that "multiple US soldiers" have been killed. Fuck. What will Biden do now?

Also this and Ben Wallace can fuck off
I don't understand what he thinks he gains from this? Its like taking on Rashford over free meals for hungry kids all over again.

And as with that once it was highlighted on social media and eventually into mainstream press instead of getting things sorted out ASAP to at least look vaguely competent and compassionate he's tried to double down and keeps coming out with clear rubbish. Even the MOD have contradicted what he's been saying as they don't want the blame placed on them.

The fact he's still going on about pet rescue and animals being prioritised over humans just shows him to be completely clueless. They aren't pets and its a private charter being paid for by public donations. The animals will go in the cargo hold where its not possible to transport humans and the spare capacity on the plane is being made available to whoever the authorities wish to get out of there.

Sounds like a third attack may have just happened. Looks like anyone still trying to get out is going to find it near on impossible.
