I put a post up once, then deleted it. It was the best day despite everything, about the only day during the past two and a half years when I have photos of people looking genuinely happy. I wouldn't change doing it for the world but my, the stress of worrying if it'd be cancelled *again* in the run-up,the remebering of the sliding scale of what we thought we could do, from full thing, to restricted numbers, to just us... to nothing. On a financial level, the cash I've lost on my hospitality. If only I'd known, I'd have diverted it to 10 Downing Street so at least somebody would have got some use from it!You should stop digging. I'm more sympathetic to Otis and his mum's funeral. A wedding could be held any time and is about the bride and groom not how many attendees, but if that was the most important factor you could have chosen to wait.
My understanding is only one person was fined from that gathering, not many. The moment captured at the front where he's clearly giving a speech, you have no idea how long he was or wasn't there but have made your mind up on snapshot because it suits your agenda.

As it happens, if I'd waited to hold my wedding now, my Mum wouldn't have been able to make it.Of course. Our wedding fell 3 days short of the ‘no restrictions’ date, our venue told us we had to move it to the following week. In that intervening week my gran suddenly dropped dead. We then had to go through the process of making sure her seat was removed, food not ordered, all suppliers to be aware etc. It was bloody horrible.
Guess you look a bit of a prick on this particular topic. I mean, at the same time we were being told not to dance at weddings they let tens of thousands get pissed at the football and the races.

Not at all. If it was illegal, prosecute. If it wasn't move on. You do realise that outside your union picket lines, many of us work in large open plan offices. Occasionally a board member or manager might call a halt whilst they address the office on any range of subjects and I'd suggest someone leaving falls into that category, but of course PVA knows best.

We've got a blessing coming up in September, it was supposed to be the faux wedding with invited guests, but some have died, split up, gained new partners... not the same.
And I don't really know how I'll do it without my Mum or Dad there, but I have to, for Mrs Wisdom, who sacrificed *her* family being at the actual day. For me.
Yeah. I'm not sure about your point but I've worked in private industry for ooh, twenty or thirty years. And yes, sometimes we send someone off with a big speech from a senior manager.
We don't normally do it in a small room with a load of booze and crisps though, maybe our workplace is just a bit more professional than yours or Number 10.
In lockdown, we had two long serving employees leave (40 years service between them, from memory).
We postponed their leaving drinks and farewell speeches because it clearly wasn't appropriate within the rules. We generally try to obey the law in our office!

I'll be honest too. Boris is an absolute liability to the Tory party, someone who quite blatantly undercuts the supposed core values of the party and exposes the hypocrisy at its heart.
He's going to cost you millions of votes in the end, so politically I'd kind of like him to stick around.
However, I also believe in standards in elected office that are more important than any of that - and a law that treats everyone equally regardless of wealth or position. That ought to be politically neutral imho, but clearly it isn't any more.

It's as long as his facade stays in place really. In London it was a humungous battle for him to be elected a second time, and he was against a rather... eccentric candidate then, too. He seems to have some hold over some, and the teams thing definitely comes over, which is utterly bizarre really, as in many of his values and idologies, he's not a Tory at all!
