Exactly. They should be furious at what's happened. I know I would be if I'd been promised all that and none of it materialised.

The fact that they seemingly aren't bothered means either 1) they're too embarrassed to admit they didn't know what they were voting for or 2) for many people they just wanted to "kick 'em out" and any other apparent benefits were just convenient excuses to cover their xenophobia

What astounds me is some aren’t bothered if the country breaks apart over it. Genuinely makes you wonder if they even know what the Union Jack they waved represents.

Brexit always meant extra passport checks at the border. The Government (and Dover), knew about what would happen back in 2020.

It was a conscious choice to do nothing about it. The government rejected additional funding for more passport control booths at Dover.

Brexiteers like Truss are incapable of taking responsibility for their own (foreseeably shit) decisions, or even sticking to what they've already agreed.

This clearly isn't France's fault - it's unbelievable that it's being presented as such.

The British government rejected a £33m proposal to double passport booths at Dover in 2020

They were warned that it would make queues at the port more likely, predictions which have played out of the last week.

To be fair Truss wasn't a Brexiteer, just another blowing with the wind to appease her own delusioned ambitions.

It's a tory leadership race, the candidates will battle to out right wing each other.

Give a few weeks and one of them will be pledging to reinvade Argentina (probably Truss with her Thatcher Cosplaying)

Rachel Starmer getting mixed up as to whether Labour are for or against rail nationalisation on Radio 4 this morning. It all seemed a bit mixed up as she talked about day to day spending fiscal rules but conflated it with the one off cost associated with re-nationalisation. She is so uninspiring.

Wouldn’t renationalising work just by not putting the contracts back out for tender?

Definitely on the railways, in fact it has happened periodically under this government.

That is an option though I get the feeling that it's a bit all or nothing to make it work properly.

Stayed with my Dad and step-Mum over the weekend. Love them dearly but it can be a struggle sometimes.

- they still feel Johnson did his best, just had shit luck with the pandemic. No-one else could have done better with the hand he was dealt
- Having looked more deeply than just the debates, Truss is very impressive. If she wins they are looking forward to how tough she'll be on Russia
- They were oblivious to the fact she's been literally dressing like Thatcher for photo ops/debates but "Sunak mentioned her 3 times in an interview so it's not like she's the only one using her legacy"
- This government is far too Labour-like, especially with it's taxes

Luckily I have a fairly mixed family so it's never too overwhelming but the debates can be fun to watch. Conservative Dad (step-Mum adds a Northern Irish conservatism to that), left-wing Mum (Labour/Green from what I'm aware), brother who's staunch LibDem and has stood as both a local and national candidate before. I'm to the left but not overtly political, hence only appearing on this thread when there's minimal football!

My god Truss is so bad at this.

Sunak is really annoying with his constant talking over her though.

They're doing a great job of making the Tory party look fucking awful though.

Sunak thinks he's in control.

In reality he's being really fucking annoying and actually pretty rude. This will put many people off him, he's coming across terribly.

Prime minister Truss it is then.

Yeah, he needs to be careful. He’s like an excitable child who can’t shut up. It’s a bit cringeworthy. Having said that from what I’ve seen it’s poorly managed/hosted so far, the lady hosting (sorry, don’t know her name) could stop the butting in

100%. He’s probably frustrated that she talks nonsense

Let’s be honest, Sunak is a bit of a geek, he’s obviously far more over the detail and is desperate to demonstrate it but it can come across as rude if he’s hogging the chat
