So it got largely missed yesterday but it turns out that Sunak is barely paying the basic tax rate on millions of pounds of earnings. Talk about a rigged tax system. Some suggestion that he also pays tax in the US too but he’s only released his UK tax return.
Meanwhile everybody is concentrating on Johnson breaking silly lockdown rules

That's great, but so are millions of people who are quite insulted and angry at the PM breaking the very rules he set and made us follow.
Especially the families of people who didn’t survive the pandemic. They couldn’t say goodbye to loved ones but we’re told to believe that it was essential for No.10 to have a party to say goodbye to someone having a career change.

Unbelievably, after seeing how uninterested the general public is in the Boris story from yesterday’s sales figures, all of these papers have decided to put the same story on their front pages again today.

I noticed the Daily Mail shared it with a story of Amanda Platell going on a blind date with a guardian reader - I’d imagine a of you want to know how it went

You’d imagine what now?

A spelling error - as Amanda’s date shared front page with Boris everyone is interested in how the date went?

People with a ridiculously simplistic goodies Vs baddies view of politics are fascinated by it
The thing is not only have you clearly got an opinion on it so you’re clearly fascinated about it too. Not only that you’ve once again fallen for the Boris trap and spin. He’s convinced you that it’s about breaking lockdown rules, it’s not. It’s about wether he deliberately lied to parliament or not. It’s not even about if he lied or not, he can’t dispute that so he’s trying to change the narrative. And you’ve fell for his propaganda. Again.

I don’t want to upset you, but sometimes I do disagree with some of the Daily Mail’s front page choices.

Who is Amanda Platell btw?

TBF 37% tax rate for a millionaire is a joke.

It’s on annual income though. For the last three years he’s earning around 330k per annum and paying 120k per annum income tax. Hardly outrageous

As I mentioned earlier there is an argument to align CGT with an individuals income tax band but nobodys gone there yet

Basically he’s paying his taxes

She’s William Hague’s press secretary when Tory leader - not a political correspondent either then

Thankfully I didn't lose anyone during Covid so my story pales into insignificance compared to many. But my daughter was born in Nov 2020 and spent the first few days of her life in hospital. I was only allowed to see her for 2 hours a day. Meanwhile Downing street were partying. Fuck those cunts.

Wow, big get for the Mail. I suppose she must be better known to men of a certain age.

Not really - oddly I’ve heard of Alistair Campbell as well

Hmm.. Daily Mail trying to trivialise Boris' actions by sharing the front page with a fluff story. I wonder if they might have some sort of agenda...

I'd be all for just treating any type of 'income', including capital gains as income and taxing it as that. Simplifying tax matters.

Also do the same with IHT. Tax it as income for the beneficiary. If you chose to have it drip fed from trust then you may well pay less tax but will recieve the money over a longer period of time.

When have I ever fallen for Boris Johson propaganda? As i pointed out to you the Tory leader at the point of the EU ref was David Cameron, you should know as you voted for him

So you’re saying it was the unofficial leave campaign’s propaganda that you fell for then. Interesting.

Tony - you voted for the party that offered a referendum and not only that to show the groundswell of growing support for it voted ukip and defended Farage on this forum

Not really Tone, I'd made my mind up based on my many years of experience of working within EU regulations which I know are designed to give corporations power to win contracts across Europe and drive a race to the bottom.

Oh yeah sure, just taking the chance to complain about tax levels of the wealthy. Politically the only I see is it kinda scuppers their “Keir Starmer is the out of touch elite” line.

The bottom of what? The country has gone to shit if you hadn’t noticed and Brexit has very much played its part in that. You seem to have spectacularly misunderstood that almost 100% of UK business population is SME’s and for SME’s membership of the EU was a race to the top. Brexit shrunk its home market to one nation overnight. You seem to be saying that you made your judgement based on economic and business factors. If that’s true you’re an idiot because you’ve spectacularly failed to understand the value of EU membership to the UK business.

You don’t need my help to patronise you, you’re doing an amicable job on your own there. Tell me more about your observations and thought processes about how you voted leave to punish corporations but ended punishing punishing over 99% of the business population that employs over 60% of the UK workforce? Because your thinking to me sounds completely deranged.

This line of argument is like when Grendel tries one upping people for saying Gyokeres was shit a few years ago
