I don’t know if Braverman herself has the political talent to become PM (I doubt it) but her views on Islam are now more mainstream than ever - it was previously only the kind of stuff you’d hear people like Nick Griffin say. Now it’s in major newspapers (and on this board). It is slightly worrying that there's a possibility Braverman will indeed be next leader of the Conservatives. You'd hope that'd mean they'd be destroyed in an election, but Trump looked a harmless crank who just shot his mouth off with nobody listening, and he's now mainstream and worrying. In recent years, British politics does tend to follow American politics a few years later on delay, so maybe we will see a Braverman premiership.
I’m sorry but he was head of the CPS, it would be naive at best, deliberately stupid at worst to think that he wasn’t talking to the press. You really don’t have to spend too long on google to see he did many interviews with all areas of the press in his capacity as head of the CPS and there’s also dozens of interviews with him on YouTube with a whole range of outlets from the same period. And guess what, people on the right also talk to left wing media. You were voting for Tory austerity back then backed by the same media

Plus you voted in a referendum that guaranteed a Tory government for another 8 years. To make matters worse a Tory government with Boris guaranteed as leader. I’ll let you off with Truss, no one could have seen that coming. You should probably reflect on your own voting history before judging mine. And the difference between me and you is I acknowledge I fucked up with my voting history, you’re still buying into the right wing ideology that the wrong type of Brexit was delivered rather than accepting that there isn’t and never was and never will be a good/right brexit. You were voting for Tory austerity back then backed by the same media

I would say you had a good point but you voted for Craig in season 1 of Big BrotherThis thread was going a whole lot better before it descended into playground bickering about individuals' voting habits (which are frankly nobody's business but their own). You have taken it to the same gutter level as the parliamentary numpties we are supposed to be discussing.
Please can we get back to the topic in hand?
I'd agree... but it's handy to know the next time a one-dimensional righty comes along to say this board has been monopolised by lefties... that it seems just about everybody has voted for a Tory at some point in their past! This thread was going a whole lot better before it descended into playground bickering about individuals' voting habits (which are frankly nobody's business but their own). The time when it seemed the Tories had positioned themselves as uber-right because Labour had stolen their position... but it now feels like a time of moderation from them! You strike me as a William Hague sort of guy
Oi, I haven’t!I'd agree... but it's handy to know the next time a one-dimensional righty comes along to say this board has been monopolised by lefties... that it seems just about everybody has voted for a Tory at some point in their past!

Just impossibly bleak
You can see where the trend is going for British politics, can't you.

Woman should be studied for her congenital lack of shame.
Not sure what they'd find, mate.
If you've only got one brain cell to process with, I guess you can't afford to burden it with unnecessary emotions.
Time to figure out our alliance's!Ban US social media until we figure out what the hell is going on.

Its genuinely quite sad. She’s clearly not a true believer, just desperate to be accepted.
Me neither.Oi, I haven’t!
As is Trump! Not really as she’s just a lunatic
it feels to me that refusing to accept the speaker's genuine apology for what happened in the debate is petty and spiteful.
As is Trump!
What kind of world are we living in?!?
So glad we’ve solved everything and can spend weeks of parliamentary focus on procedure issues over a position statement on a war on the other side of the planet we aren’t involved in and have no influence over.
I don't understand this point of view at all, it's an absolute failure to understand how foreign policy works.
We were involved at the start of this whole mess when Israel was established, we've got a seat on the UN security council and hence a permanent veto on their resolutions, we trade with Israel and with other countries directly affected, we sell arms to Israel, and our shipping is under attack in the Middle East because of our seeming support for Israel.
Politely, it's a nonsense to claim that what we say either as a government or as a potential government, makes no difference. It absolutely does, both domestically and internationally.
I agree that what we, as a country, say matters.
But in this particular case saying the right thing is good, and what we all want, but realistically will have zero effect on what is happening in Gaza (sad as that may be).
A motion was passed urging for a ceasefire. That's what everyone wants right?
It's the stupid political games and name calling because the nasty boy's motion was used not mine, because a particular wording wasn't used, because the speaker said such and such. Etc etc
The motion was passed, the house agreed a ceasefire.
That should be the end of it, but as shmmeee says we're now going to get a week or more of arguing over passing a motion with the end result everyone wanted because...reasons.
