I went on internet safety training some years ago. One of the things the trainer said that as a society we just handed over access to the internet to our kids - without any real thought about how this might develop. They can occupy whole worlds that parents have no access to or knowledge of.

I’d go as far as to say it’s taken children’s innocence away considering how young some are when handed a smartphone without much restriction. Open to all kinds of things and a parent won’t realise.

The kind of bullying that happens now will only turn physical at the end of harassment on whatever social media platforms someone’s on. Some of the stuff I’ve seen in my school from Year 7 alone would genuinely shock you.

When I was at school 2 year 7s smashed each other with rounders bats and broken each other’s noses, it’s always been there.

Yes seems two two involved from the school were highly accurate in assessment but as ever social workers were, well just tardy.

I think the British legal system would be pretty clear in giving him more rights than a dog. And executing a deranged 14 year-old boy who's been raised by two murderers wouldn't even fly in Iran.

I think it's pretty clear that he should be either imprisoned or under close psychiatric evaluation (if not both) for most of his life until it can be proved he's no longer a danger to society.

What do you mean by strength of conviction? People are either guilty beyond any reasonable doubt or they aren’t. Last person who had their murder conviction overturned was 2005 BTW.

If it works I’d be more open to it than the death penalty, sperm can be frozen, etc. I have no idea if it works.

Not sure what left or right wing has to do with it. It’s the biggest intervention a government can make arguably.

Sad that this thread has been derailed, but the problem with the death penalty really is that the only thing going for it is satisfying blood lust. Doesn’t prevent crime, doesn’t save money, can end up killing innocent people.

To keep that 14 year old in for life it could be in the millions.
