I went on internet safety training some years ago. One of the things the trainer said that as a society we just handed over access to the internet to our kids - without any real thought about how this might develop. They can occupy whole worlds that parents have no access to or knowledge of.
When I was at school 2 year 7s smashed each other with rounders bats and broken each other’s noses, it’s always been there.I’d go as far as to say it’s taken children’s innocence away considering how young some are when handed a smartphone without much restriction. Open to all kinds of things and a parent won’t realise.
The kind of bullying that happens now will only turn physical at the end of harassment on whatever social media platforms someone’s on. Some of the stuff I’ve seen in my school from Year 7 alone would genuinely shock you.
My own experience is risk is dealt with very poorly indeedYes seems two two involved from the school were highly accurate in assessment but as ever social workers were, well just tardy.
What's worse is that she obviously recognised she was doing wrong, if the fostering wasn't working she should have just contacted social services and allowed them to find somebody elseGrim

This is all very well choreographed for the minister to try and claim greater power, far more worrying than her release from jailLovely - lock up your children she’s coming out

Saw that, the bloke was from Cov.
How the fuck can a 13-14 year old be involved with something like that.
Weird thing is he was with his step dad and his partner so he's not even his kid. The programme about it last night was really sad.Saw that, the bloke was from Cov.

Well his history shows he’s a serial killer in the making - animal torture obsessed with murder and death but hey total surprise to social services.
Well another charming incident - possibly the worst yet - another failure of the social services system - and this delightful trio will possibly one day experience freedom again no doubt in the teenage nut jobs case with a new identity at tax payer expense

What would you suggest - lock the 14 year old up for life, or just murder him as well?
Would you release him? How did that work with Mr Venables? If he was a dog he’s be put down - he’s worse than a dog.
I think the British legal system would be pretty clear in giving him more rights than a dog. And executing a deranged 14 year-old boy who's been raised by two murderers wouldn't even fly in Iran.
I think it's pretty clear that he should be either imprisoned or under close psychiatric evaluation (if not both) for most of his life until it can be proved he's no longer a danger to society.
Venables was no longer a danger according to the British Legal System.
Clearly an appalling error of judgment. Would you rather that same legal system was permitted to execute children, and just hope we don't get the same kind of errors?
It would depend on the circumstances and the child.
Not just children, adults too.
Sometimes there are just absolute wrong uns which can never be changed.
Like the Birmingham Six, for example?
It would depend on the evidence and the strength of the conviction.
Whilst I have no doubt there are still miscarriages of justice, with advances in DNA etc it's a lot different to the 70s now.

Ah yes, the days of the police getting things wrong are thankfully long behind us.
Read what I said.
So in this particular case you're satisfied the burden of proof has met and we're safe to go ahead with this 14 year-old and "get him put down"?

What do you mean by strength of conviction? People are either guilty beyond any reasonable doubt or they aren’t. Last person who had their murder conviction overturned was 2005 BTW.
Like the Birmingham Six, for example?
I believe you’ve suggested chemical castration for sex offenders. I’m sure that’s a pretty right wing approach
So you think these 3 are innocent and it’s a miscarriage of Justice
Not from what I've read, but that clearly wasn't my point.
Well dredging up the 70’s is not much of a point regarding this is it
So miscarriages of justice are no longer possible?
Sad that this thread has been derailed, but the problem with the death penalty really is that the only thing going for it is satisfying blood lust. Doesn’t prevent crime, doesn’t save money, can end up killing innocent people.
