Nobody cares about Worcester, Wrexham, who cares who. This team is different. Absolutely no way we’re losing it. How do you get through life so over cautiously? People are worried about fuck all.

My view: when you’ve stepped on banana skins occasionally, it makes sense to be cautious.

We have a squad, Kitching will be back. Collins, Bidwell, Godden, Thomas, Simms,Kelly,Allen(🙏) all on the bench last night, I never said there going to play 3 in 7 did i
Well you’ve said you want Sakamoto, O’Hare, MVE, Wright and Eccles all starting against Maidstone - if that’s the case then either they have to play three games in seven days (bad) or we have to rest them in a league game (also bad)

It’s Maidstone ffs

Yeah don't get me wrong, normally I'd be all for a bit of caution. But we're talking about playing our fourth (fifth?) choice forward against a sixth tier side at home, a side who really and truly got absolutely brutalised against Ipswich but somehow escaped with a win that was no way deserved, other than a nice romantic cup story.

And if he can't do it against Maidstone, playing alongside some half decent players, then why is he even at the club in the first place? Why didn't we send him on loan when we had the chance to?

Point taken, I’ve just seen enough cup debacles at home to non league crap, a mighty 2 of them, to want to safeguard against another.

Not just that... Play your strongest team, put the game to bed. Then make wholesale changes when game is done and dusted. A bit like yesterday.

Pretty simple.
Completely agree, Not saying play them for 90 minutes, but play them from the start then when we are winning they can be brought off. It would be worse to start a weakened side and potentially lose a silly goal, (we seem to be doing it a lot lately) and then having to bring them on cold to try and break Maidstone down

I believe in playing your strongest team and especially in the FA cup in the fifth round, Maidstone are there for a reason, they are good & record against lower league clubs especially at home to non league poor take no chances.

Regarding Taveres, we have to take into account he has just come back from a serious injury, Achilles injuries are as serious and career threatening as an any. I suspect the medical team will be monitoring it. Coming back just at start of the transfer window wouldn’t have made a loan to an EFL or Scottish club very attractive imo. Not sure of the loan rules regarding the non leagues.
I think he only has four months left on his contract.
So wage wise we are committed.

Exactly what Ipswich thought. Exactly what we thought when we lost to Sutton. We were a better side then as well. 18 months after winning the competition and flying in the league.

I hear it loud and clear that the Ipswich result was a fluke. I totally agreed. But the goals they scored were not. Their GK had a great game. If we put out a much weakened side we're asking for trouble. Maidstone 1 game from the QF? They will give 100%. Look at how many games we've been in total command in recent years yet lost.

I’m not worried about Maidstone at all and I felt the same way about the replay against Sheffield Wednesday too.

That said, Maidstone have earned the right to play us and it’s a massive game for them. By taking the game seriously and showing them respect by putting out a strong side (not necessarily full strength), we could blow them away in the first half. From here we can use 5 subs to rest any fatigued players.

Maidstone rode their luck against Ipswich, but now it’s time to put them to bed with a professional job.

They also took both of the only chances they had. Our defence has been sloppy since the turn of the year and complacency will be punished

Exactly, so we have to put them to the sword. I only mention resting tired players because this will be a high energy game.

I take it nobody thinks Tavares should be at the club then, if they think he isn't worth bringing in to rest Sakamoto against a sixth tier club...

I do think he’s worth bringing in vs Maidstone, but I don’t think he should be at the club.
Well that's kind of my position. I'm just wondering where all the people saying give him a chance have gone, if they're not shouting to give him a chance against sodding Maidstone!

I mean just how weak a side would it be anyway?!?

We'd have the same backline as against Sheffield Wednesday, you'd bring Kelly in and start Simms in the hope he scores, it's hardly a weak outfit you'd be sending out!

I’d play him but I don’t think he should be at the club.
So your opinion on long term injuries is sack them ?
I agree perhaps he should have been knocking the door louder before his injury but he wasn’t and got his injury, I think he has a tough task ahead but let’s see the next few months.

Nothing to do with his injury he’s shown nothing on the pitch bar one fluke shot.

The fact he has an extensive song purely because his name and nationality fit into a Liverpool player's chant when he's played ~350 minutes for us is criminal

He came back 1st December, so ought to be fit enough to start against Maidstone!
Of course it is and let’s not jump to conclusion he might start, but remember before his injury he was about 22 but behind Gyorkeres, Godden, Waghorn, and in a way Palmer & O’Hare tough task to break in with that lot ahead of you.
I don’t know if he’s any good or not and have doubts of his long term future here but we will see.

But we couldn’t shift him on while injured do you not get that ? No EFL club would take him, if he’s allowed a loan in the one of leagues below division 2 would probably be good for him but Robins will be aware that leaves us just three front men.

I expect him to be released in the summer and find a club, I get why he’s here now, and this is a rare chance to use him so I’d take it, but I don’t think he’s got a future at the club.
