Considering we finished 9th last season and added depth to the squad, it really hasn’t been good enough.
Doug thinks it’s down to coaching and not the players. I certainly think the coaching is a big factor in players looking clueless and the types of mistakes getting made, but the performance levels fluctuating so much between or even within games is a bigger issue for me.

Now even other managers are noting how they pick and choose when to turn up.

Yeah true but were we really. In the deluded fans head we might have been but I saw some talk of top 2 on here. Just madness really

We’ve been in the play off picture for three years in a row.
The club aim to be in the PL within the next few years.
The manager said this was the best team he’s ever had.
Most other fans expected us to be a force this year

So no, it wasn’t delusional or madness to expect a promotion push.

Agreed, can't happen. My prediction is we'll head into January in around the league position we are now, maybe a touch higher, then the new man will bring in a couple of players that'll help us squeak around 12th position.
I agree with what Evo said last night that we're maybe 3 players off being a top team atm, its not a disaster, it just needs tweaking.
There is always one team each season that shits the bed when nobody expects it, that’s CCFC this season.

Correct, I think we were heading for real bother which is why something had to be done to try and correct it. It will always be the right decision to me but we've done that bit to death.
I think new eyes on the group will be good and I think we'll be ok. Let's hope so anyway!

The “Robins had turned the corner with this team and was fired too soon” merchants pretty quiet now.

We look a mile off a top 6 team right now.
What?? We've just drawn with and outplayed the the top placed team twice in 2 games with an utter novice at the helm and that is your conclusion? Burnley make everyone look sh!t, even themselves - concluding we are a mile off the top 6 after losing away there is a other massive overreaction. Backline isn't an easy fix but sort that and we should fly.

Worth noting there's some real wank teams below us too. It doesn't feel like anyone should be below us but there are, a few of them actually! We'll be ok.

If Lampard has put his foot down on having certain staff in place that’s a good thing. My concern is these players just cannot be trusted, so January is critical.

I take your point but my point is that teams that concede on average 2 goals per match don’t finish in the top 6.

Our block of games that take us into the new year will be the marker. There are some winnable fixtures in there, you'd hope we can get more than a point a game... If not we're bang in trouble.

Blaming it on coaching is a cop out. If Binks, Thomas and Lati need to be told that whenever the ball goes down our left side you need to be goal side of your man we’ve got bigger issues than I thought.
Da Silvas positioning last night was the same as the SU first goal. Sky commentary said as a full back or wing back you should never be beaten on the inside. We all new we were weak in that area and Robins didn't address it, teams know it. Collins could have saved the first goal but mixed himself up again. If you can't improve either of those players then the coaches are part of the problem as well as the players. I do think your right with the bigger issue comment, defence is headless when caught in transitions and don't know how to react.

The trouble is I don't think they're being coached.
Is Da Silva ( just taking him as an example) being taken to one side to address and made to work on his weaknesses? I see the same mistakes being made time after time by the same people, I just don't see any progress or improvement, no evidence of new skills being demonstrated.

the thing is were never going to be perfect, you've got to see this new manager as a new start, not the fact that we've lost 8 so far, he cant be judged on how the season has gone so far.

its always collins, dasilva, lati that get the harsh treatment, its a constant wave of negativity every day on here, apart from when we win, and any positives last for about 24hours.

collins couldnt do anything about the goal last night.

Spot on. It’s the laziest form of analysis on here.

Defence concedes too many goals - “We need to work on our defensive coaching”
Strikers miss chances - “We need to work on our forward coaching”
Goalkeeper makes an error - “You’ll never guess what”

Some players don't have the capacity to take it and absorb what they are being asked to do. That's why they never reach the higher levels, I think we have 3 or 4 at the moment that haven't worked out. The issue is that they play all in the same area and side of the pitch. The new guy needs to bring a defensive coach with him as we need more input to fix it. Bidders must play Saturday he's not the quickest but he can defend better than Da Saliva.

As Darragh Whotshisname said, it is remarkable we weren't in for Harrison Burrows. Neither Dasilva or Bidwell are good enough.

The new manager is going to need to try some new things to fix our problems and inevitably some won’t work. I don’t see us going through these games unbeaten.
Indeed. And they wont have first hand knowledge of what they are taking on until 2 or 3 games in, plus experimentation matches. It could well be beyond Christmas when they realise what's needed, hopefully not too late for the transfer window. Then the arguments with DK who thinks we have a decent 'deck' and wont sanction any more recruits.

Hopefully he's done some homework and already knows about JDS and Lati's capabilities.

For a supposed imminent announcement it seems odd that the book is still open and also that Lampard’s odds have lengthened from 1/8 since yesterday.

We aren’t going down. Talk of relegation battles and the aim being to stay up is dramatic and premature.

We have a good squad. We have a new coach coming in which will a) naturally galvanise the squad and b) bring new ideas.

Saturday afternoon we all felt pretty good about the performance and result, and were actually disappointed we didn’t win. We play poorly tonight and suddenly it’s relegation talk.

Now, if we don’t get a good run of results over the next few weeks then talk of a boring bottom half finish is fine, but we still won’t go down.

Even usually balanced posters have been swept up by the usual negative ones!

Let's not forget that on Saturday we played against 10 men for over half of the game. When it was 11 vs 11, I felt that Sheff Utd looked like scoring every time they came forward. We gave them the complimentary 2 goals as per and I believe they would have gone on and got a couple more. Just my opinion of course.

Trouble is Cally, these players don't have the capacity to learn. They don't appear to be able to think for themselves.

The laziest analysis actually is people assuming that the result is why others are concerned.

Yeah, that's fair - we are not averaging anything like 2 goals a game but that is splitting hairs (it might be the mode?). 4 games in a row is it?

No disrespect to Lampard - he not the first name that comes to mind when your defense needs fixing. I thought we'd go really well preseason, the end of the transfer window was really disappointing but I still thought we'd be playoffs - it could still click but I'm not hopeful. Which is a real shame because outside of Leeds and Burnley - on last season's form there is nothing to be scared of.
