Yes, WTF is that ?abahahahahahahahahahaha
“Look at you, doing good like some kind of chump. Not like me the do shitter”
WTF even is that?
You would be offended though, wouldn't you ?Apparently it’s quite common for Chinese people to pick an English name because we can’t pronounce theirs. This according to “Wendy” and “Sherry” that did a placement at our work. TBH I was kinda offended at the idea Chinese names are too hard for me.
Isn't it about slaves wanting to be free or something along those lines? Sure this was brought up a few years ago and nothing was done.On the radio it says they are reviewing swing low, sweet chariot.
It’s a complicated one as the lyrics aren’t racist (as far as I understand it) but the song is about slavery and descend from former slaves the ancestors of slaves. It’s also a religious song. Biggest issue is a load of mainly white men drunkenly singing it at a Rugby match is very discontented from the meaning of the song. Does that mean it should be banned? Don’t know the answer to that one, I suspect it won’t be easy to police at an England international either so it will still be sung anyway so that begs the question what’s the point in banning it in the first place. Be better to use it as an opportunity to educate on the subject of slavery. Maybe the RFU can have an explanation of its origins in every program? Honestly don’t know the answer to this one but in many ways it seems banning it to me will just lose an opportunity to educate. Besides if you banned every disconnected songs being sung by crowds at sporting events that would stop a lot of songs being sung on the terraces and in the stadiums.Isn't it about slaves wanting to be free or something along those lines? Yeah, that one is a lot more clear cut. Definitely racist.I remember Newcastle United fans at Highfield road singing, to a man
"Town full of Pakis...you're just a town full of Pakis"......etc
The whole ground heard it. The police did nothing.
They'll do nothing at all if it's a sufficient number singing anything. On your own and it's a different ball game.
It's sung at rugby matches in good faith. Such a shame that it's been promoted as offensive as it will probably mean the far right will adopt it on their marches. It’s a complicated one as the lyrics aren’t racist (as far as I understand it) but the song is about slavery and descend from former slaves the ancestors of slaves. I have to say that I’m very wary of cultural appropriation especially where things like music are concerned. Where do you draw the line? White people can’t buy/listen to hip hop and rap, black people cant buy/listen to death metal. It’s a slippery slope and to be honest the more I read about the history of this song the more I think it would be wrong to deem it wrong to sing it at a Rugby match on the basis that it’s racist. I’m really struggling to find an angle that it is and when you look into the history of the Jubilee singers, the Fisk University and the people behind the Fisk University and what they did I’m thinking it might actually be an insult to stop singing it.Well, I'd always understood Swing Low to be a song born of slavery, and mournful one at that (the arms of the saviour being the only way out); and I guess it surprises me to think the majority wouldn't be aware. But I also see that some might think it misplaced cultural appropriation. That it's being discussed is a good thing.
More generally on the wider discussions that are happening around the subject of European colonial slavery, I do however find it odd that whilst colonialism was still being touted around in schools in the mid-sixties, the teaching about horrors of colonialism and slavery was firmly in school curriculums by the time we got into the 70s. That and the very many popular tv series and films around the subject gets me wondering a bit where the education gap is or has occurred.
That’s a fair point. They have a history of nicking things and enforcing a new identity on them. Especially on the musical theme, thinking specifically about skinhead. It's sung at rugby matches in good faith. Another example of the left shutting down free speech.
Even if she is a tart.
So Earlsdon but got to disagree. Her tweets were offensive and inciting hatred, often discriminatory and should not be given a platform.Another example of the left shutting down free speech.

Fair enough if you think that and I sympathise with no platforming not being a solution to anything. There are degrees of no platforming depending on how you interpret the term.Another example of the left shutting down free speech.

She’s said some vile shit over the last few weeks even by her standards. I can only assume that she was daring Twitter to do it because BLM was was making the attention seeking potty mouthed narrow minded moron even less relevant.Another example of the left shutting down free speech.

I don't necessarily agree with you on defining it as 'the left' though. With respect to what? Many of her followers are economically on the left, feeling they have been 'left behind' to the forces of economic change/globalisation.
Surely if the theme was changed to ALL LIVES MATTER it would gain universal acceptance instead of pulling in extremists from all sides.
That would only work if all lives are on an equal footing already.Surely if the theme was changed to ALL LIVES MATTER it would gain universal acceptance instead of pulling in extremists from all sides.
Don't think so. Was right behind it but now seems to be a rolling bandwagon. Even Greta Thunberg is in on the act.I respectfully think you’re missing the point.

When the Roman Empire ruled most of Europe, all were slaves. Do I blame Italians for that? No we move on and make a better place.
I can't be responsible for the actions of my forebears, in the same way Germans cannot now be held responsible for the actions of Hitler and the Nazis.
Man has lived off the back of fellow man since time began. There will always be an Elite wrapped up in some form or other.
Do we blame every British Government and Monarch as it happened on their watch?
Of course it's shocking what happened in those times, but don't blame me!

Not sure what the long lasting effect is of white slavery under the Romans are. Certainly I don’t feel repressed following decades of institutional racism towards white Europeans from Italians as a leftover from the Roman Empire. Certainly no Italians going around expecting a Roman privilege.Don't think so. Was right behind it but now seems to be a rolling bandwagon. Even Greta Thunberg is in on the act.

that just makes no sense whatsoever
Oh dear.It does if you decode it, the use of "Greta Thunberg" is telling.
Once decoded it simply reads "GAMMON"
Oh dear.
It's people like you and Ros that stop discussions being had and people learning from it going forward.
