From the telegraph

He moves for an ‘undisclosed’ fee, understood to be a relatively modest figure that could rise to a maximum of £400,000 based on the usual add-ons, including appearances and promotion.

Not bad that, well done Doug 👍👍

Wasn't quite at the level last year but huge player for his since he joined with some crucial goals and some fantastic finishes.

Good move all round. Gets him closer to his family as well and no doubt more time on the golf course!

The right time to part ways undoubtedly but nothing but respect and admiration for Matty G!

50 goals is a very respectable return, some very important ones in there as well! Little did we know at the time but the goals against Sunderland and Ipswich would be the ones to win us promotion, the last minute winners against Reading and Bristol City

Hope he does really well at Charlton

I can honestly see him smashing goals in for fun for them in that league. He will do well. Best of luck and thanks for your contribution to our growth

Thats decent, wouldn't have been surprised if we'd seen a 'left by mutual consent' so getting anything for him is a bonus.

Good move for all concerned. Matty gets to prolong his career at a decent level and we can part ways on good terms with a player who was genuinely vital to our rise whilst freeing up a good chunk of wages.

To get any sort of fee back for him, no matter how small is great business on our part too.

Hope he smashes it at Charlton, all the best Matty.

Ones led us on for months, the other asked if he can leave and even waited for us to get a fee for him

That's the difference
I can see that but that's internal club stuff, makes no difference to us as fans really and just makes the club look petty. COH may have pissed about at the end but he was an important player for us and a decent farewell would have been the right thing to do

Good luck Matty.

I hope we have signed his little lad up? He showed some great football skills on the pitch after the last game of the season. Him and Kasey's son were having a wail of a time kicking a football around the pitch.

Lethal finisher for us and was just incredible that promotion season. That season where we just kept scoring last minute winners I just remember lots of high pitched “and its MATTY GODDEN” from Clive.

Think his pace limited his contributions in the championship with our formation and style of play. Think he will score for fun in league one.

Sick hair too

Just saw Godden’s insta post specifically calling out overson, I’ve heard he’s done a lot for the club, does anybody know what specifically?

Thought you meant "calling him out" with beef.

On behalf of me and my family i want to thank you all the most incredible 5 years. From Champions of League 1 to 50 goals its something im very proud of. I want to thank you all for your incredible support through the times at St Andrews and then to a full house at the CBS. A thank you to the gaffer and all his staff from Amanda & Marshy the kit guys to the physios and backroom staff.A massive thank you to Adi Viveash for developing me into a miles better player than what i arrived and helping me with the tough times off the pitch when i 1st arrived. I also want to thank an un-sung hero Richard Overson who without him non of whats happened would be possible.

A clear modern favourite. We surpassed his ceiling, but I love Matty Godden and hope he smashes it at Charlton.

I've seen evidence that when we were at our lowest Rich was even buying the lucozade sports, water, footballs etc for training. The hotel stays and coach fees for away days. A chef so the players could eat at Ryton. Amongst a myriad of other things, that you would think were basics as a professional football club, that without him we wouldn't have survived. Quite literally wouldn't have got games on without his cash

Also Paid for the pitch at the start of 22/23 (Hyam was sold to pay the tax bill)

And Il be careful how I word it because unsure if it's meant to be known, but Mattys words of saying 'none of this would have been possible without Rich' are true. Matty Godden playing for Coventry City quite literally doesn't happen without Overson if you're with me
