Really surprised Gyok hasn't been announced yet. I love the fact we have landed our target first rather than selling then panic buying!
Keeping their powder dry whilst we sign other players else they try to shove the price up when we negotiate

What if he fails his medical? 😱

I remember Willie Carr was about to sign for Wolves £250,000 (a decent fee back then). But failed a medical over concerns about knee surgery he had had .

Six months later he went to Wolves but for £80,000. He played for them for about 5 or 6 years and making 237 appearances for them and scoring 21 goals.

Yeah when they came back with that offer, we should have told them where to stick it.

All the best to Vik for the future it’s been an awesome couple of years seeing him raise the bar for us with his goals and all round play!

I have a handful of fine art prints left if anyone wants a momento of his time with us. link below:

Mcallister was a brilliant example of a captain. I remember when he was injured during a game and had to go off, but before he did he went around to each player geeing them up to get the best out of them.
People seem to forget that McAllister before the 99/00 season wasn’t great. Clearly, he was a fine player, a technician . However, we weren’t good enough to play a passing game so he was ineffective for the most part. Once Hadji, Chippo, and Keane joined he was a different player .
The loss of Keane and McAllister during the close season in 2000 was fatal. That opening home game against Middlesbrough was horrifying

Good enough for Liverpool though, maybe they had lower expectations

I would have loved Gyokeres to have stayed and us build a team & squad around him I’m sure we would have been strong promotion candidates, having said that in a way Vik is playing a part in that quest with his £20million transfer fee hopefully funding MRs
wish for squad build & playing a part in us being a force this coming season.

I think 99/00 was the only season he was not carrying an injury. 97/98 he should have had an operation on his knee but put it off so he could play in WC and then broke down in his 1st game back & missed WC anyway.
We also sold Whelan about a week after Keane.

Yes he had to go so deep to get the ball, the opposition knew he was our only playmaker. Even on the ball you could see him looking and looking, but there was no movement and no options most of the time.

Busst's testimonial; McAllister and Gascoigne were an exhibition of pass and move through the Man United midfield, even if it wasn't a fully competitive game, it was still a joy to watch.

Can anyone explain what being a cuckold actually means? Is it when your wife leaves you? Mine is still here.

He used a term cuckold beta male which is weak cowardly and often showing feminine traits

It seems that it’s a departure from the Shakespeare meaning used to describe Othello

Google it and you get some interesting options to view

Keane was a wonderful short term luxury. Vik was a pleasant surprise who we have made an absolute killing from. Hamer for me has the makings of a legend. Fadz an absolute warhorse I would start to put into legend status. Across the years, Hutchinson, Regis, oggy, Peake, Dublin, Shaw, Huckerby, Speedie, McSheff
Any excuse to give Gareth’s song another airing!

Let's have a think about it.

@KenilworthSkyBlue is completely missing.
@SBT is praising the deal and hoping no one calls him out on the cuckold behaviour so long as he plays along and acts like it was always what he was going for.

Two weeks ago both were arrogantly telling others we would be business stupid to not take the first offer. We've since added about 7 million to that by simply knowing our and Gyökeres' value.

We could also go at @fernandopartridge and @shmmeee but I have a bit more respect for them so happy to leave them out of it for now.

Page 65-80 of this thread are absolute gold. It's bedwetting heaven. I would advise anyone to go and review before some of those posts get inevitably deleted.

At the end of the day we should have had a bit more respect for Gyökeres and how much he would be appreciated for other clubs. His development alone could now fund a proper squad that could get us to the PL. Shame on anyone who was willing to sell him at the first offer. I'll never take them seriously again.

This may come as a surprise but I genuinely couldn't care less whether you take me seriously you complete and utter freak.

This you after the first bid m8?

Agreed. It'd be remiss of the club to wait for interest that quite evidently isn't really there. Especially when there's already a fair offer on the table.

Not sure why fans can't grasp this.

No, I'm suggesting the club needs to read the room. It's an idiotic strategy waiting until later in the window in the event a PL club might table what in reality is an unrealistic bid.

It's a risk they're more than entitled to take but Blackburn attempted the same tactic last summer with Brereton Diaz and it failed miserably.

It's not an under the odds offer really is it...

You do realise this is the exact strategy that Blackburn had with Brereton Diaz last summer and it failed miserably don't you?

Or were they just lacking in your awe inspiring business acumen?

Well it isn't really is it. It clearly highlights the risk clubs run when they try to hold out for inflated fees when the interest deemed to be as strong as initially thought. But bury your head in the sand if you so wish.

Very good deal and the transfer fee is more than fair.

I'd say compared to some we've had who have been classed as legends, Keano was pretty close, regardless of time spent here. Jarni was here for less but spoken about far more often.

And as for Vik's status, he's still a rough diamond and could be frustrating at times. But he was definitely quality, just in a different manner. Could you genuinely compare Vik and Quinny ? Both strikers, one played 100 times for us, the other 65. One is legend, the other is leaving for SL. Keane only played 30 times (a third of Vik's games and half of Quinnys) yet I'd say he fulfilled the duties of a legend and would put both of the other two in his shadow.
Not here though, a “legend” in my opinion is how they played and what they did here over the years, Robbie lot of time for and always respectful when he scored against us but playing just a season not a legend in my eyes.
