Haji Wright injury (8 Viewers)

Personally I would need to see a lot more from EMC before we decide to move our best player out of his best position just to accommodate him.
So we should move EMC from where he is unplayable at times and has scored 3 goals in 4 games for Wright who will not be match fit when he comes back?

Leave EMC where he is with Wright taking up the left of the area. Interchangeable with EMC depending on game play at the time. Put Simms on the right of the area. When the ball comes in from the right we would scare the crap out of defences.

Calm down he’s had one very good game.

Hes hardly been unplayable at times. Simms on the right of a 3 is madness

I wouldn't say he's been unplayable but he's been the leading light of the squad since FL has been here and he's obviously benefitting. 3 goals and 1 great assist in 4 games is an amazing return.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There's other areas of the pitch that are broke - they need fixing. But leave EMC on the left when Wright comes back and try Wright in a more Central, advanced role.

The problem is Wright is far more effective when he’s on the left and he’s a lot better than Mason Clark

Yeah, I don't disagree but at the same time, EMC is thriving in that position at the minute so it would be madness to drop him to slot Wright back in. What if it takes Wright a few games to get up to speed?

Games where EMC could be having a bigger impact.

I do agree though and Wrights definitely a better player than EMC but EMCs in great form. Doesn't need changing/dropping at the minute,

And it's not as if someone's tearing up that more advanced, central role. Get Wight up there when he's back - he'd do no worse than what we've had all season so far.

But it's not just about getting full value out of Wright, it's about maximising the value of the team.

So if EMC and Wright (out of position) results in more goals than Wright (in his best position) and Simms/Bassette then it's worth it even if it means Wright himself scores a few less individually.
Maximising the value of the team is about more than just cramming as many in-form players into the first XI as possible. I’d love a system that gets the most out of both players, but I also don’t want to force it Scholes at LM-style.

Call me old-fashioned but I think we need to build around our best players in their best positions - until I see otherwise, that means Haji Wright on the left.

I think when Wright returns I can't see Simms getting much game time under Lampard. Haji will be our first choice striker and then Norman will come on if we need some fresh legs and new ideas in the 70th minute.

Last season all of his goals came from the left
This season?

There's room for both EMC and Wright. Neither would be on the left by themselves. Wright is wasted on the wing. He should be running in from the left of the area with EMC looking after the wing. And with the amount of crosses we're putting in it would make sense to have our tallest strikers in a position to take advantage.

That Sakamoto diagonal to EMC is going to be a key ball, for me on current form it’s EMC Wright Saka across the front. Agree that on paper it’s Wright Simms Saka but while Simms is crap Wright is our next best ST even if EMC wasn’t demanding a place.

He needs to go upfront once he is fit and keep EMC on the left as he is lifting this team on his own at the minute.
He played well on Saturday.
Other than that he hasn't caused defences many problems.

This season most of his goals have been upfront which means that he will get goals from both positions. Wright himself is on record saying his best position is striker which is where he’s made the most appearances in his career. If everyone was fit and ready, you’d play EMC-Wright-Saka. Otherwise,
you’d be blunting your attack not playing both EMC and Wright.

He’s only played centrally this season in a 352 - usually drifting out left to boot. There’s no room for EMC in that formation and Lampard probably won’t play it anyway.
Thank God for that. Dead formation that doesn't suit this group at all.

He looked like he was still limping when he was walking round the pitch at full time the other day. Looked ‘delicate’.
I know he walks a certain way anyway but even so.

This is SBT where players are pigeonholed !
Wright has played the majority of his career as a striker

I think Wright can manage playing upfront in a 4-2-3-1... It's his most common position and system in his career. LW is a new-ish role for Wright. Besides, last season he struggled in a 3-4-1-2 and this season couldn't stop scoring before his injury. Generally, strikers form will dip in teams that aren't playing well like ourselves this season.

In any case, you have several options:
1) Wright LW, EMC RW
2) Wright up front, EMC LW
3) 2 striker formation e.g. 4-4-2

My personal view is that EMC will play RW and we'll really use the two to create deadly weapons at the far post. You often see EMC (and Wright pre-injury at LW) drift in to act as a second striker so I'm looking forward to us making overloads with Haji, Simms, EMC and even Rudoni in the box.

You not seen his recent games?

So do we have all our strikers to the middle of the goal or do we spread them out a bit? Wright towards the left and Simms towards the left.

Yes I’ve seen his recent games. I don’t understand what the last sentence means

Why is Saka an automatic pick? If one of the strikers hits form over Xmas, Saka is going to make way for EMC and Wright out wide.

Imo, Sakamoto's role will develop into being our super sub. A tricky player to bring on against tiring defences could be a good ace up our sleeve. He had a purple patch over Dec-Feb and developed a good reputation among fans but in some games can be totally ineffectual.

Wright was moved to the middle prior to his injury, and looked even more dangerous (albeit in a different formation)
I'd like to think Frank will find a fluid formation where he could play any combination of Saka / Haji / EMC / Simms & Bassette and make it work.

Was he? I only remember seeing him play there late on in one game where we needed a goal?

He might have played there late on in a couple of other games, but I haven’t seen him start as a central striker since the first run of games after his move here.

I think you need him. He’s got probably the best final ball in the squad if you’re putting crosses in.

I’m not sure why the sudden turn against him, but he’s a player much like Sheaf only just finding full fitness who offers us something others done. I also dont think Simms is coming good any time soon but if he does then we’ll cross that bridge then.

It’s not a sudden turn, he’s a still a good player but if you have Wright and EMC who are better goal scorers and better at assists, why would they make way for Sakamoto?

You have Simms, BTA and Bassette on the bench if you start Wright as a striker. Simms and BTA got 32 goals between them last season.

My belief is that Simms will win his place back and you’ve got Wright and EMC on the wings with Saka being a role player from the bench. Up until 2-3 weeks ago EMC was a waste of money… things change quickly.
