Haji Wright injury (4 Viewers)

It’s not a sudden turn, he’s a still a good player but if you have Wright and EMC who are better goal scorers and better at assists, why would they make way for Sakamoto?

You have Simms, BTA and Bassette on the bench if you start Wright as a striker. Simms and BTA got 32 goals between them last season.

My belief is that Simms will win his place back and you’ve got Wright and EMC on the wings with Saka being a role player from the bench. Up until 2-3 weeks ago EMC was a waste of money… things change quickly.

That’s two left sided forwards. On Sakas side it’s BTA and Raphael or playing Simms out of position.

Okay, so on this debate I’ve pitched Wright up front since around the start of the season to get EMC on the left.

Simms on the right would actively hurt us imo. We play a large amount of crosses under Lampard and as such on our wings need to ensure we have people who can cross the ball into the box.

EMC/Rudoni and Sakamoto/Milan, have been great at this and if I’m not wrong, all goals bar the penalty have come from a cross into the box.

Wright would be perfect for this system. He’s got the pace to play off the line but can also compete in the air with his height and good movement. We do lose his progressive dribbles on the ball but think he’s pretty much our best rounded striker and would do the best of both Norman and Simms.

Also think Simms is the ideal back up for his height. Just need to get the fire going.

tbf Wright's strong enough on his left foot to play some minutes on the right if Saka isn't firing or Simms starts getting goals again. Otherwise, when he's fit, if Simms isn't on it, he'd work through the middle with EMC on the left. Nice to have options.

So many options, what's not to like. 😁

EMC has played plenty of matches as a RW, until it’s been tried with all the players available.

Players may have to move around to get game time, there’s too many goals in Wright and EMC to not play both.

EMC looks a different player on the right and not in a good way. I think there will be goals for Saka too, he’s just not yet getting the rub.

Maybe Wright can play wide right, I can’t recall any times he has to make a judgement. But this all hinges on us finding a striker so good it’s worth dropping someone and we’re miles from that.

I take it you want at least to get money back on him at least, we're not at the point yet that to bet everything on EMC, I wish I could work out what the recruitment priories are at this club?

simms needs to be our first choice up front. settled in that position he's proven he will score. AMs and wingers need to learn how to feed him, and feed off him. basette can have the last 15-20mins, and occasional start for now.

personally, i think wright is better on the left wing. he'll drift in when the ball's coming from the right, so will get plenty of time in the box. he won't run around for 90mins, which i don't have an issue with, but that would be needed if he was to play centrally.

emc gives us much needed cover on the left and the right for when wright or saka need swapping out.

EMC has played a couple of games there, if that. It’s best to reserve judgement.

The way the wingers play, EMC and Wright at least (and Sakamoto to a lesser extent) is to joins the striker when Rudoni drifts to the left and the shape becomes more or less a 4-4-2.

There’s the option to play Rudoni RW or AM but deliberately drifts into the RW spot either for a 4-4-2 too.

We’re 442 out of possession with Rudoni up front. In possession it’s basically a 325 with a front five of MvE Saka Bassette EMC Rudoni.

That explains why we are scoring the majority of goals from the left with EMC and Haji when he was fit with Saka and MVE both able to cross to the far post and others chipping in too

There’s no reason you can’t fit different players in that same basic shape. If EMC continues his form into the New Year and one of the strikers, you’re not going to relegate one of those players to the bench for Sakamoto.

None of the strikers other than Wright have shown they’re undroppable. I’m really not sure where this idea has come from. I mean if Kai Andrew’s turns into Zidane we’ll have to drop Sheaf too. It’s a bit weird to keep arguing about it though.

It's a rather facetious reply bearing we have 32 goals sitting on the bench and with Wright is our top scorer, EMC and Rudoni being joint top goal scorers after him whereas Sakamoto has 4 goal contributions all season - where does he fit in?

You're just not going to make the selection of the team a binary between Wright and EMC at LW. The team right now would be Saka-Wright-EMC but my personal view is that Simms is going to break his way back in the team.

That’s the rub. I don’t see Simms displacing Wright or playing so well you put Wright out of position. We’ve overstocked on the left really, no matter what you do you’re playing someone out of position and I don’t think Lampard will want his wide forwards to be strikers.

In reality 2 of the front 3 get subbed most games so you really need 5 players to cover the whole match.

So we should move EMC from where he is unplayable at times and has scored 3 goals in 4 games for Wright who will not be match fit when he comes back?

Leave EMC where he is with Wright taking up the left of the area. Interchangeable with EMC depending on game play at the time. Put Simms on the right of the area. When the ball comes in from the right we would scare the crap out of defences.
Simms RW :ROFLMAO:

Wright should be eased back in - if EMC is having a good game he can come on at striker and see what that combination is like for 20/30 minutes. It's good to have options.

I'd like to see Simms get a few starts before then, Bassette is not justifying his place. It does feel like he's been treated a bit harshly.

Completely banal arguments tbh, very SBT. At least match thread arguments are fun.

anything but a front 3 of
RW - Sakamoto
ST - Hagi
LW - Mason-Clark
Is wrong, you cant have 3 scorers you need a provider, if Sakamoto isnt there who’s the forward outlet to create, as we have Rudoni and Torp from deeper, but they need someone further up to create so they can get involved too, take Tatsu out you neutralise us a little bit I think
