He's f***king brilliant

Was told today he will run his contract down and leave for free next summer to go back to Holland if his lads still there

Unless that situation changes with his son then of course he stays
I neither like nor hate this. Happy to have him for the season I suppose but leaving on a free would be a kick in the teeth.

Surprised the club won’t try and cash him in. Look, if he’s committed to us for another season with the players around him then the Premiership charge is real.

Not good news financially but good in the short term on the pitch.

I hope it doesn’t end like it did with Tielemens at Leicester. He went from FA Cuo here to boo boy. If his form dips or he returns to picking up red cards the crowd will turn on him quickly.

Of course he might be telling the club that now to put pressure on them to accept lower bids than they would want in this window.

Oh the irony though that Vik’s behaviour has set us up for a really positive window and Hamers might ruin next summers window !

In fairness, you can’t really blame him if that’s the case. It’s not as if he cost us a significant fee, £1m over 4 years for a player of his quality is nothing.

Yes, we may lose the resale value but the that was never guaranteed anyway. If it’s not about the money there’s nothing we can do about it and frankly, family comes before football.

He doesn’t seem like the type of guy that will not give a 100% either and it would not be in his interests to let it affect his form. He will need to have a good season to ensure he gets a desirable move back to the Netherlands, namely Feyenoord.

I'd love him to stay. Even if it's just for one more season and then he leaves on a free.

I know that doesn't make great commercial sense in some ways, but if he got us to the play offs again, it would feel well worth it, imho. And regardless, he's just so good to watch when he's on it...

Gyokeres was the same and look what his transfer fee is allowing us to do.

Of course if it's a personal issue I wholeheartedly sympathise with his situation and would love it if the club could give him the move he wants.

But we also have to think of the clubs interests and frankly we can't afford to let the best part of £10m just walk out the door for nothing.

I'd love it if his situation was able to be sorted in the coming months and his family were back with him here and he signed the contract. But we can't take that risk with the amount of money involved.

His family don't come before the club from our perspective at all.

Appreciate the info you give on here but I thought Robins was implying his head had been turned by bigger offers and bigger clubs rather than it being a personal issue.

If he helps us win promotion I don't think anyone will care if he leaves on a free.

I always wonder with players running their contracts down though, at some point you must start thinking - better not get injured, as I haven't actually got a contract for a new club and the one I have at the moment runs out at the end of the season.

The good thing is thats not out of the question evidently, so lets hope it can be fully resolved and his family come back here
