For someone like Hillsner who probably just wants to go back to Germany you could just take a severance package for lower than what his total wages would be and just go home.

Unsure as to whether he’s doing his rehab here or Germany but if it’s here then he may just wanna go home and would take a certain amount of money to buy out his contract. We bought out Jobello didn’t we?

Jobelloe was fit, and could get a contract elsewhere. What possible motivation is there for Hilssner to accept less money for being injured?

Good for future signings too. What security can you off me?
'Well, if you get injured longer than 3 months it's instant dismissal'
But its not the first time how many games have they both played in the last 2 seasons? Unfortunately they are getting older and their bodies cannot cope with the rigours of pro football ...how long would you keep a car which kept breaking down and you couldn't rely on ? Very harsh I know but as a small limited playing staff club wouldn't you want a slightly better return on your investment? It doesn't allow squad rotation so it also impacts the actual playing squad too !

Hilsner was told to stay in Germany for rehab so cant see any chance or need for him to be back. His contract is up along with De Costa, Bapaga, Kelly, Walker, Waghorn, Rose, Dabo, Wilson and Eccles. Not sure how many will get offers from the club but lots of games to be played and lots of things could change within the club by the time decisions need to be made on each players future.

For now id take another clean sheet, no injuries and 4 pts from the next two games if offered now.

Wilson contract isn't up this year

Kelly has been a magnificent servant to the club and a vital cog in the promotion campaigns but we’ve outgrown him and he’s massively injury prone.

If we can’t get 20 games out of him now then there’s little point in keeping him on. We’ve got other leaders in the camp too.

harsh but that’s the reality of it

Now, we can sit here and consider how wise it was to give them the contracts they're on in the first place, but once they've got them just getting rid of them because we fancy it isn't an option.

if we cancelled their contracts it wouldn't save us money because the clue's in the name - contract. We'd have to pay it up in some way, either severance written into the contract or what they'd been due anyway. Only instead of having that cost spread out over the remaining months it might well be due immediately, causing cashflow problems. So same cost but no player available at all. Stupid decision.

Then there's the knock on to squad morale. Not just that it could upset the togetherness if they player is liked and/or respected by the rest of the squad, If we just got rid of a player in contract just because we didn't want them anymore, the entire squad would have that constant fear of being dumped at any point and be demotivated, thinking if the club aren't going to commit to me why should I commit to the club?

Plus if we could just get rid, then there would have to be equivalence for them and they'd be able to just walk out whenever they liked. So a few good performances and a good contract offer from someone else and off they go and we get nothing.

So financially and in terms of man-management it's a ridiculous suggestion.

Players in the squad wouldn’t care if they were released

Godden scored 12 goals last season…

But injuries atm are taking their toll ... the way he has been playing do you see him scoring 12 this season? Hopefully I am proved wrong but apparently he is out again for 3 months plus so we will have to wait and see

Think there is probably a good chance we never see Kelly play a game for us again. A real shame to see his career end up like this, he was a crucial part of our rise, but he’s always struggled with injuries and it seems to be getting to a point where he may as well end his career.

Just saying it’s not fair to claim both him and Kelly will have done nothing for two seasons. I honestly would t be surprised if Godden is second too goal scorer again this season. Whether that’s a commendation of Godden or a condemnation of the rest of the squad I’ll leave you to decide.

I never said they had done nothing for 2 seasons I said they both keep getting long term injuries and are not spring chickens anymore.. they are both on a downward spiral and its probabaly better to cut our losses

Id agree we never should have offered Kelly the extension, been a total waste of budget.

I think Godden has the sort of record that he’s worth having around for even half a season. I wouldn’t have him as first choice but I’d rather have him on the bench than any of our other strikers. If No billionaires come in I’ve got no issues with him having a squad place next season.

I don’t see Kelly kicking a ball for us again unfortunately

Can see him retiring all together and taking up coaching if injuries persist, maybe something MR and the club would be happy to accommodate if that’s an avenue he chose to go down?

Depends on the level of the player and if they would if they were denied monies owing to them, which the person suggesting we get rid of them alluded to as they said we should do it to save money. How do you save money if you have to pay up their contract anyway to get them to leave?

Well it’s not happening with Kelly as he’s injured but what tends to happen when you do is pay them a percentage and allow them to be a free agent

The other is to loan and agree to cover a percentage of wages or even as we did with lee hughes sell them and pay a percentage of the wages back

I get that, but it wouldn't be much of a saving if they've only got just over 6 months left. Unlikely to be enough to finance an addition that could impact the first team anyway.

Plus I stand by the non-financial impacts in the dressing room.

If it was waghorn and walker , they would be wage thieve's , but Kelly ( Jones) godden we must keep. Personally I love Kelly and godden but if your constantly injured there's only one way to go, and that's to the exit , sorry boys.

Kelly’s race is run we knew that last season but he absolutely deserved a contract out of loyalty from both sides

He’s an excellent player that at times has been treated appallingly by our fans, will make a great coach I would offer him a role if he hangs boots up

We are in no position to offer out hundreds of thousands pounds a year in pity contracts.

Let's be honest - even you must realise that is total nonsense.

Players are only interested in themselves and self preservation or the next payday elsewhere - why would any player care if Kelly was released. He’s being paid for doing fuck all

For me it would be the same regardless. If they're contracted then there will be a certain amount they will have to be paid to leave. Does that up front amount leave enough to get a replacement in?

Kelly, Waghorn, Kane and Walker all have just six months of contract left come January at least I think Kelly has,so all are candidates to move on in January, but will need replacing should they go something our owner won’t be keen on.

Why would anyone sign them in January when they could get them for nothing in the summer?
