No one really knows what the deal is, so no one can say either way for sure. I'm sure you think it was a bad deal though.

I do, to sell him soooooo late in the window when it was quite clear other clubs interested in him was bonkers. Should have played hardball like we supposedly told spurs. He would have been worth the same come the summer if not more as a championship player.

Right. So you don't know what the deal is. Thanks.

How did he come across? It would be interesting to hear how he was compared to Tim Fisher for example and if he was just trying to spin or if he was just being up front.

Sounds good. As always with SISU actions speak louder than words so we'll wait and see if he comes good.

Did anyone ask about the business case for a new stadium vs staying at the Ricoh?

Summary Of Evening - Comments below are precis of what was said and not verbatim record

1. Following suggestion from Chiefdave etc new format was tried - rather than the previous free for all a bit more structure was introduced with questions submitted to hosts prior to start of meeting and then they were dealt with in a Questiontime format. This kept the evening flowing and on track without too many sidetracks and venting of personal issues - thanks for idea guys!

2. Chris Anderson - overall came over as a decent guy who tried to distance himself from SISU and the actions of the past stressing today and the future are what matters. He acknowledged the mistakes and said they should have not happened but as the brilliant Jimmy Hill Memorial showed when previous protagonists work together the results can be spectacularly successful. He was clearly an intelligent guy with a sense of humour and in no way underestimated the task ahead of him. It was stressed to him (politely) by several people that supporters had heard all the same words from his predecessors and he would be judged not on talking the talk but when he was seen as walking the walk.

Answers to Questions from here (excluding the one about goats!)
1. Madisson - club always knew it would have to let him go at some stage - we are a small club that struggles for money and will only survive by developing players and selling them on. 12 PL teams had made enquiries about JM with a couple (unnamed) making offers but JM turned them down - looked like they were bigger clubs where JM realised he would just be part of the U21's rather than 1st team. When Norwich offer came in JM liked the opportunity and said yes as he would be on loads more money and be in or around a Prem clubs first team squad. He insisted that he be loaned back for rest of season - as did TM. When asked why we didn't hold out until the summer CA stated that basically the difference with what we were being offered today compared with what we might get in Summer was not a big enough difference to take the risk of JM getting injured or losing form etc. Better actual albeit less money today rather than a bit more possible money in future.

2. Fisher stated current model wouldn't work in Championship etc. They are working hard on putting plan in place for Championship - budget wouldn't be up there with the top clubs but would be more than the bottom few - TM would have a competitive budget. Promotion is what club is aiming for and wants this season or the next.

3. Stadium. He said that mistakes had been made by predecessors by making announcements prematurely but he had been told that 2 sites had been identified but these were no longer available. He is currently working on business cases for new ground v long term at Ricoh and at this stage did not discount either option. When a decision has been made the facts will be given to the supporters to show why club is doing what it is doing. Talks with Wasps/ACL are ongoing on a number of levels and relations are cordial. He referred to the Ricoh as a Premiership class facility but if we did have to move it would not be to Northampton or Walsall but would be in Coventry. No decision is imminent and could be months before one is arrived at but FL is putting some pressure on for club to come up with a minimum 10 year solution. When asked whether a sound financial club is mutually exclusive from a community based club he dismissed this out of hand stressing a club is the fans and is the heart of the community. He said the club needed to build revenue streams form local business but due to the stigma attached to club following Northampton etc many businesses didn't want to be associated with club for fear of being tainted with this stigma. He acknowledged it would take time to break this but realised that bridges need to be built and built strong and long. It was pointed out that there was a chicken and egg situation and as long as people of Coventry felt that club was not committed to the City due to legal actions of owners and the lack of a commitment to a home in the City there would continue to be scepticism as to its long term viability and no business wants to commit to that.

4. Ticket Office - acknowledged that current system is diabolical and inefficient. A new modern user friendly system is being worked on and hoped to be able to make announcement soon.

5. Contracts - whilst many players are out of contract at end of season how many of those out of contract would we realistically want playing for us in Championship? Those that were felt to be good enough have been offered new contracts and had to decide themselves on their own futures. He stressed that TM and MV were doing a brilliant job in player recruitment and there was no reason that they couldn't attract the like of Armstrong and Cole or even better in Championship. He was full of praise for the pair of them and Jamie Clapham. He also singled out Joe Cole as a brilliant role model to the youngsters both on and off pitch but whilst he had been made an offer for next season and was really happy with the club etc there was a possible overseas opportunity that might be too good to turn down - not financially but simply as a challenge and life style experience.

Overall a good evening - well attended (around 100 I think) and CA made a good impression but as was said bridges need to be built for many fans to trust club again and actions speak louder than words.

It's good to hear that he was focusing on the football though. So many fans are obsessed with the court cases and ignore that ultimately what's most important is what is happening on the pitch.

Thanks Jan
Talks a lot of sense. Like the sound of it.
Hopefully it is someone the trust can work with.
Makes sense te Maddison in terms of the risk of injury the gamble is how much more would you earn.
12 prem league clubs enquiring though, I think you would earn a lot more and get your pick of loanees for the Championship next season. Very important considering our budget.
Fair play to Maddison says a lot about the kid, he wanted to stay here in loan, he choose a lesser Prem Club in order to have a better chsnce of playing.

In hindsight would have been nice to ask why we can't afford the wages of a free transfer goalie after the Maddison deal.

Good to hear the FL have finally realised something doesn't add up and the next solution has to be a 10 year one.

Let's hope this man will build a relationship with the organisation that thinks more closely to the views of the majority of the fans.

It's also good to see he understands the negative impact the court cases have in the fans and that until they are away the way bridges will never be fully built

He also mentioned that only Milwall get a better percentage/return then US from ticket sales, and that we would not be able to compete with the likes of Middlesbrough in the championship but we would not be anywhere near the bottom ether.
Spoke really well and answered questions as he saw them, said he knew the answers weren't what some of us wanted to hear but hey at least he sounded sincere.

Only time will tell....

Andersons explanation re the Maddison transfer made absolute sense. He said without question and regardless of promotion or not Maddison was off in the summer, they had a real bid on the table no figures but I guess a lump sum and add owns to come. They could have waited until summer but there was no guarantee of a bid coming in, how much or if he got injured so they had to take the bid on the table seriously and along with the proviso of him staying until the end of the season had to accept. The kid was leaving anyway and got I quote a set up for life package and he wanted to go

Having gone to various forums with Ransome, Fisher, Waggot, et al since our owners arrival he appeared to be the only one that really understood the connection between the club (not the owners), the community and the fans. He spoke well, didn't mince his words and refused to be drawn on things that he couldn't answer. Came over a quite a genuine person understanding the reality of modern day football and the cross-linked problems of running a successful club.

Sounds infinitely better than Fisher who simply adopted a bullish attitude and spouted a load of bollocks which everybody could see through.

This is more realistic & believable, I'm still waiting to see how the court cases turn out, what this years accounts show and what Anderson comes up with on financials remaining at the Arena compared to building a new stadium (I rather suspect the new stadium plan is now dead in the water, it was never going to get financed was it). Overall I feel that these reports have modified my attitude to view the current regime in a more positive light.

a wodge of cash for a player who has played around twenty games in L1 is good business. At the end of the day the club is more important than one player, so if that cash (plus reported add ons) can help push the club up the pyramid over the next few years then the sacrifice of one player is well worth it for me. And, of course, there's no guarantee he will be the new Dele Alli and take the Premiership by storm. Chances are we could be playing against him next season if things go well for us over the next few months.

Maddison is a great player obviously, but he blows hot and cold so although he has saved us a couple of times with goals, he's had more quiet games where he's not been involved.

Whilst I get the rabid "why did sell him" rants (as stated he's a good player), I think overall the sale was probably best for all concerned. We would have lost him in the summer anyway...or...as he does have a history of injury problems he may have been out of the team on the treatment table.

No complaints from me if we can invest the money in new players for the future and to hopefully help us stay in the Championship if we get there.

No answer torch?

And if he got injured again then he wouldn't fire us anywhere. Everything is a risk, an if or a but.

Like I said, personally speaking, I think it was the right thing to do.

torch if he fires us to promotion he would be worth more in summer probably.

sold him too soon

Agree to a certain extent, but in reality what happens off the pitch influences what happens on the pitch.
You can see in his comments that the move to Northampton has effected businesses putting money into the club.
Until the court cases are out the way this will not be sorted.
This also effects the Ricoh IMHO.

What's the spin?

What's new though, trying to but a positive on selling JM because he may get injuried, confirmed its was Pie in the Sky regarding new Stadium, trying to get local businesses on board (wow that's ground breaking why have we never thought of this)
We might be able to watch the players train

Oh yea and the ticket system isn't very good, sounds like a riveting evening

this is why it's spin because everyone thinks the world is rosy again.

Sorry, that's nonsense. There is no spin, he's told a few truths. I don't know enough about JM deal to know whether it was a good one. Regardless, he'd be off in the summer so perhaps it's irrelevant.

The fact he's openly considering the merits of a new stadium vs a deal at the Ricoh is progress from the dogmatic line from Fisher et al in the past.

He's said they're addressing the ticketing system (which isn't that bad, some people just don't follow instructions).

I don't think anyone thinks all is perfect with Coventry City. However, to constantly drag the club down stating "everything is shit" is not going to help either.

He's admitted mistakes were made in the past and he's trying to correct those. Seems sensible to me.

Absolutely, for example the Cov Building Soc had a sponsorship deal for donkeys years, but that was cancelled when the Sixfields fiasco happened, it has never been renewed. Then there was the season where no shirt sponsor could be found and a charity logo was put on the shirt, I'm all for supporting charities, but that was an situation that the club found themselves in due to their aggressive behaviour where they lost another income stream.

Agree to some extent but we DO have a shirt sponsor and we had one last season too. And the aggressive behaviour was down to the owners, not the club.

Also, promotion would change a lot. I don't think companies would be so concerned around our perceived "tarnished image".
