I was in the shop last Friday and someone was having Palmer on the back of the new away shirt. Whoops theres £15 you wish you'd never spent

It would be a shame to lose someone with his ability because on his day Palmer can be brilliant, but his day doesn’t come around often enough which is why this deal makes sense.

Last year of his contract, get a bit of bob for him, replace him with someone else with some quality (Cantwell mentioned on another thread) and I don’t think it’ll be much of a loss.

I really like Palmer too. Very talented player.

Right to move him on though, as he didn't perform to his highest standards often enough and lacked consistency in producing those great performances.

Very hot and cold. We need someone who can play at a consistent level, week in, week out.

Still a bit sad to see him going though. A real talent on his day.

Really like Palmer. He’s a joy to watch.

His inconsistency on the pitch doesn’t really bother tbh…but his regular injuries and that he’s going to leave on a free make this an easy decision.

I will probably be in the minority here but this actually really annoyed me. Particularly when I read that Palmer did exactly the same when he was at Huddersfield (had been injured and then made a miraculous recovery just for the play off final). Contributes very little and then wants to try and turn up for a half an hour cameo in the hope of stealing the limelight.

Yeah, it was a ridiculous decision by Robins, he managed about 15 minutes and in those 15 minutes looked miles off the pace.

Well we certainly didn’t miss him in the FA Cup Semi last season when he was stupid enough to get himself suspended.
Sums him up really - he won’t be missed by me.

Palmer was great especially against weaker teams or lower league teams in cup with his forward thinking passes. But he spent a lot of time on ground and lacked pace and movement against strong midfielders. He got into lots of good positions but his shooting was average and his control was erratic. A very likeable and frustrating player in equal measures. The Sheff Weds fan racist abuse was disgusting and KP came out of that with great dignity.

The two sub appearances against Bristol demonstrated the value Kasey can bring to the squad as an impact substitute against tired legs.

Likewise the game against Oxford demonstrated why he isn’t good enough to be a starter.

Not worried about him going to Hull as if that’s going to make them significantly stronger.

He looks good in flashes and is capable of the spectacular. But I can’t think of a flair player who tries so much stuff that doesn’t come off. Seems like a decent guy. But not many would have him in a starting 11. I don’t think that’s going to work for him or the club. He needs to be a regular starter although I’m not sure that’ll happen for him at Hull either.

I had him in the 1st team against Norwich in place of Torp (assuming no Sheaf).

Oh well
Same.

Can understand why views differ on KP. I generally saw more positives than negatives with his place in the squad but as many have said, consistency was the main issue. Let’s see what happens through the rest of the day………

£750k seems cheap as chips but if he wants 25k p/w then I guess there is a very small market.
From our POV, £750k is a good value for player who’s in the final year of his contract and a high earner.

I’ll frame it this way, would people be happy if we paid 750k for a Championship AM with the following stats:

07B9696B-7154-498C-8C49-711D93233170.jpeg

Turns 28 in Nov and is on a wage that is higher than you’d expect for a player who is not first choice.

It’s all well and good being a top player ‘on your day’, the problem being is when those days are few in number. Those goal contribution stats do not lie and as other have said, last season was his first playing 2,000 minutes (22 games equivalent) in a season.

It’s nothing personal, there are just plenty of players out there who are better than Kasey Palmer.

That's fair, but he has the most goal contributions so far this season and so if he does go it's essential we replace him otherwise it's a backwards step.

Indeed. Palmer is more the sort of player that shines when the team are in control and he takes the piss out of the opposition, But he's not the type of player that will get a team having a bad game out of the doldrums.
That's why we have a subs bench.

Horses for courses as they say.

In the league he has one goal contribution - a goal.

He has 12 contributions in the league since he’s been here.

If we want to look at all competitions Tavares last season had a goal contribution every other game.

Many stats don’t even include the FL Cup when looking at goals and assists

This isn’t a jab at Palmer, just because he’s started the season well, doesn’t mean that’ll continue. Look at last season when Godden scored 6 goals in August-September, it looked like peak Godden was back… Only to score 3 goals from then. 1 league goal and 2 in the FA Cup against Oxford when the game was at 4-2.

He’s in his contract year so it wouldn’t surprise me if he had a good season this year because it’ll probably be his last ‘big contract’.

Slightly misleading due to the fact that in previous seasons he's had players like Hamer and O'hare in the midfield ahead of him, who were more attacking midfielders.

How many of those appearances were starts for example?

This season he's been the main creative midfielder and already has good returns, all be it from a small number of games.

No big loss imo, he’s been vastly underwhelming for the majority of his time here.

Can’t see us letting him go without someone coming in.

I like Kasey.

Comes across as a really nice guy, principled and passion for his team.

He's definitely talented but a quite inconsistent in the same way Dabo was.

In ideal world, I'd like him to stay for his talent, the different option he provides and his passion.

As though with most things in life you can't have everything and have to make choices.

If he goes, best of luck to him . Definitely needs a warm reception when he plays against us.

So second top scorer then, and above Simms and BTA in the scoring table.

So what. As I said Tavares had 5 contributions last season in 10 appearances

We’re 3 games in to the season ffs. We’ve had 2 full seasons to judge him on prior to this and he’s come up short.

Regardless of his stats, the fact he didn’t even manage to play half of our minutes in either should be setting off alarm bells.
