If refs have been "instructed to run the course of time properly".

What have they been doing before? Just guessing a number?

Why did the lino watch it go out for a goal kick but then wait for the player to get the ball again to flag? Was he not going to bother if somebody else got it?

Yeah but I don't get how they have been calculating it before if not "properly" ? Are they just guessing random numbers?

I always wondered, because first half it is never more than two minutes, often just one. Second half is often four or so.

I get there is more shithousing at the end of a game and substitutes as well, but it isn't always the case and yet the pattern still seems the same.

I think your guessing numbers theory probably has some grounds.

I reckon so yes. I’m guessing now maybe either the 4th official or the VAR are calculating it?

Yeah it’s never really had anything to do with the actual amount of stoppages has it - it’s just this generally agreed unwritten rule of thumb (about 3 minutes as standard, plus or minus a minute or two depending on how busy the second half has been). I’m glad they’re trying to address it.

Argentina getting an almighty kicking on the box today - There's a programme just started on BBC4 focusing on Cameroon's achievements at Italia 90.

I see Harry Kane is having a scan on his ankle today. If he is out, who would you play up front against the USA?

It would have to be Rashford wouldn't it? Can't see that Southgate would start with Callum Wilson up front, just simply due to his lack of international experience.

Agreed although hopefully it's just precautionary.
Does beg the question why Southgate didn't use the warm up games to blood the likes of Wilson, Maddison etc. so at least they'd have a little experience of the setup.

Also begged the question why he didn’t bring the troops in in the second half immediately as it was like a training game - could have avoided Kane getting crocked

missed this part of his speech the other day, you wonder how people get top jobs like this and stay in them.

This is why Im not that fussed about going anywhere to watch World Cup games.

Must be as they know they're being filmed. Over the top for the first game. In a working man's club it's a quick handshake with the chap next to you, and off to the bar to get a pint. 😉

After the opening speech I think men in white coats will be lining up to take him away - he’s as crooked as Sep Blatter

This Croatia Morocco game looks like it's at double speed.

Can't stand fans that overly whistles when the opposition have the ball too.

We never had any warm up games.

Said it earlier. Didn't do much to improve things with Russia WC or Chinese Olympics. It's a clichéd nonsense that sport can change ideologies or politicians. North Korea have enough black cash then FIFA would probably do it.

City links here in the World Cup. Have I missed anyone?

Wilson, Madison, Joe Cole, John Hartson, Robert Page. Dion's not involved is he?

Would love us to sign another Moroccan, then you'd know the good times are really coming back.
