Watched it back this morning. Exactly 5 minutes from the time Torp was tackled until Sheaf came on the pitch.
If was quite surreal. He was so pedantic about some things, but then just let other things go.ref's agenda last night was constantly having the set piece taken exactly where he wanted it, and then missing everything else. no yellow on torp? no pen? nice one ref
we only had one yellow, and that was for pato!If was quite surreal. He was so pedantic about some things, but then just let other things go.
Like I said previously, he was so picky about players gaining yards from some throw-ins, but then let other throw-in takers to steal as much as 10 yards when they took theirs.
He was all over the place. No consistency at all in his decision making.
Yep-you beat me to it. Carl Baker,Chris Birchall and Peter Vincenti are others who have taken up the whistle. This nonsense about ex players would make better referees is just that. If anything it makes the job more difficult as they have to adjust and look at the game from a different perspective.
I went for a piss. Drank a pint come back up Torp was still on the floor.Felt like 5-6 minutes in real time.
This is easily solved with a stopclock. Play-on unless it’s a serious injury and let physios treat the players on the pitch.
In the interests of balance Sheaf took out one of their players on the wing quite late on and we got the throw in. He was just plain useless.Surprised nobody has mentioned Sakamoto being dragged down at a corner. His shirt was nearly pulled off his back, it was so blatant.
And when their CB stopped MVE (I think) taking a quick throw by essentially nudging him over.
Same in the 2nd half. Two fake head injuries, 8 subs and he warned them 3 times for time wasting yet we only get 4 mins again. In the end worked out well.Poor decision for the penalty...it was gilt edged, so no excuse.
And how was there only 4 minutes injury time in the 1st half....Torp was on the floor way longer than that.
If the charge is for the language used then i suspect he could only argue against it if he didnt say it. Whether he was justified saying it would be irrelevantAre the referees assessed and if so who does it? He missed loads last night so surely he gets a poor assessment and some action is taken. As for the Burnley referee now that FL has a misconduct charge is the panel that hears the charge shown video evidence of how bad he was or do they just take the referee's word & find FL guilty?
I guess if FL appeals then they have to look into the evidance. Are the referees assessed and if so who does it? Aren't the refs mic'd up?If the charge is for the language used then i suspect he could only argue against it if he didnt say it. Whether he was justified saying it would be irrelevant
Yes but all that proves is what he said. If he did use foul language then he gets banned irrelevant of how accurate it isAren't the refs mic'd up?
If the charge is for abusing an official the ref’s performance is irrelevant. Are the referees assessed and if so who does it? Depends what they define as abuse. If the charge is for abusing an official the ref’s performance is irrelevant.
If he told the referee that he was "fucking shit" then FL wasn't wrong was he?Depends what they define as abuse.
First punt would be the 22/23 (Qatar World Cup?) added on time again. Following through with time wasting rules currently in place (Keeper holding on and players kicking away the ball). What suggestion would we put forward to improve the quality of officiating in the league?
Time keeping needs to be taken off the ref. 40 minutes of ball in play on a stop clock like Rugby.
I'd like the decision making process to include all officials rather than the refs judgement. On Saturday when Milan got booked the 4th official and lino were much better placed to make a decision than the ref.
I wouldn't mind the 5th and 6th officials behind each goal as well, if it meant we didn't have VAR in the champ. You'd say that this week they'd have seen Hajis offside goal (bad for us but correct decision), and been able to make the correct call on the handball. Even if they don't add more value than that, it's 2 game altering decisions which would be correct.
What suggestion would we put forward to improve the quality of officiating in the league?
It looks like the ref from Rangers game last night is being sanctioned, that’s what needs to happen in the domestic game imo
Probably get sent to the English championshipwhat did he do? Whats the sanction?
Employ better refs from abroad. Our football is full of foreign players that have lifted it to another level, do the same with the refs if the ones we are producing aren't good enough. What suggestion would we put forward to improve the quality of officiating in the league?
I want to avoid instances like the FA Cup semi at all costs.Semi-Automated offside technology. VAR is debatable because it’s clearly not great as it just adds another wally behind a computer screen but some of the decisions are so bafflingly obvious I don’t know what else to do.
Was used in the World Cup.I want to avoid instances like the FA Cup semi at all costs.
When you have a law like offside, then there is no subjectivity, as you are either off, or you are on. But when you bring technology into it, you are giving decisions where it is so marginal that it does not matter; millimetres.
You can say that if the margin is so tiny, that they are functionally level. No advantage is gained, and it does not serve the interests of the game to be pedantic over such irrelevant margins.
I assume that a semi-automated technology would do this?
VAR use for offside is one of the worst applications of it in the game. If you're going to use it, use it like the rest; to overturn obvious errors.
