The ref? Jesus, he was fine. No problems with him. He didn’t have any influence on us creating nothing.

Not about influence or big decisions, it's about getting a grip of the game. Boro were timewasting after 4 minutes. Boro had one yellow all game.

He was dreadful.

I can’t recall any 50/50 going our way and he missed a few clear bookings on top. Worst of the bunch was penalising Hamer for winning the ball in their box towards the end.
To be fair, I’ve had a few, but he didn’t seem that bad to me… and I lay into ref’s at any opportunity!

I’ll have some of what you’re having
It was Stella, unfortunately. I think what I’m really trying to say is, we weren’t that great tonight. A few dodgy calls from the ref isn’t going to change that. I’m hoping we’ve set up that way to hit them away… it’s basically half time.

If that is how bad premier league refs are no wonder they are always shit at our level

If it was a deliberate strategy it could have backfired very quickly first half. Very deep and passive.

But still, they didn’t take their chances. Expect to lose Wednesday in any case

Same. But we haven’t lost to them this season yet. Sneaky 1-0… symmetry of results

As said in the match thread, I thought the ref was fine. Didn’t make any decisions which had an influence on the match. Norton-Cuffy and Doyle both could have been booked fairly early in the first half which could have made it a different story. Lots up in arms about a Boro player going in on Hamer late but replays showed he didn’t touch him. Tried to play advantage a few times too. Lot better than many we’ve had this season.

The worst was the referee waving the Boro keeper to stop timewasting on the 10th(?) minute and didn't dare book him.

Equally the Boro player trying to take a corner 3 feet away from the corner box. Knows exactly what he's doing.

Will be interesting to see how the referee goes about the game if we try similar tactics Wednesday.

Reasonable enough game from Madley-1 yellow card though tells you all you need to know about the game itself which was fairly standard ti manage.
Not sure it will be the same on Wednesday night……

Also missed Gyokeres elbowing McNair in the mouth breaking his tooth....them's the breaks imagine him getting sent off...

Vik trying to pull away from a centre half pulling him all over a pitch isn't a sending off.

Same with the one at Blackpool, ref wouldn't never give it because he knows it's a foul on Vik first.

Lino was shocking too today. Ball went out several times by both teams and he didn’t flag despite a clear view.

Couldn't believe what I was seeing. One of our where Hamer 'kept it in' must have been a foot over the line.

I don't think the ref saw it. In fairness nobody sat around me did either - everyone saying they didn't see what happened.
I saw it, I suppose a top ref which we didn't have the luxury of would have had a glance back and spotted it. It was a yellow all day. There was some great tackles from both sides today, no quarter given or taken which people around me were baying for fouls and cards, make me chuckle somewhat.A very competitive game which is going down to the wire over two legs.

Hamer could be injured 🤕 apparently?
There is a young fella called Gus
He's going up north on the bus
He will play at 'Boro
His play will be thorough
And we'll win two to nil, no fuss
