It's not unusual to get a severance package that specifies if you get a job elsewhere you lose the benefits, especially if they're buying you out of the 1-2 years of your contract. He'd still get some severance for taking another position, but not as much as if he, as you say, works the garden.

Like in any employment there will be a period of time where he can’t join a competitor given what he will be getting as a pay out.

A direct competitor in this instance will likely be defined as another championship club, would imagine Hull would have to foot his compensation bill.

I had it in my contract I a previous job where I couldn't join a company that could be deemed to be a competitor for 6 months. There was also a few other clauses.

I bow to the knowledge of a lot of people on here. Never seen so many experts on every subject that comes up in the same place before.

I think a team like Hull at this stage is just not right for Robins. He needs a lower Premiership team, Leicester would of worked for him or a top 6 championship team I.e Burnley if they decide to change managers. Hull is a basketcase at the moment and there are players there he has moved on from Coventry. I just can't see it myself

A lower PL or top 6 Championship side isn’t going to be interested. Clubs like Stoke and Hull are much more likely to be.

Would suit the players and the club like a glove to be honest

No chance I loved MR but he isn't that level in my opinion

Robins hasn't done enough to get a prem job, sorry. He is though a very good option for any Championship side, for sure. I'd even argue he deserves a top 6-8 team.

That would be restraint of trade, completely unreasonable and unenforceable.
This is incorrect.

King is a business man. Contracts like this are used. He wouldn't be restricted by force. He would have a choice. The contract could say that loss of earnings would be paid if his contract is terminated. It could be for a specific period. The person with the contract has the choice. Take a well earned rest or go back to work.

As we haven't seen the contract we can only guess what it contains.

I'm not saying these clauses don't exist, I'm saying they shouldn't be enforceable in certain circumstances.

If your employer chooses to let you go any clauses about not working for someone else should be null and void. hence why you often get gardening leave.

Bit like the Bosman ruling. You look at it now and you think "yeah, it was unfair beforehand". Just needed someone to come out and say "this is bullshit"

It’s probably bollocks.

But, if true, I can see why a manager in MR’s position would consider it. His stock is high at the moment and it’s a decent proposition (unhinged owners aside, albeit nothing new for MR). If he were to take 18-24 months out there’s a fair chance he’s looking at going back in at league 1/2 level.
He might have an anti compete clause in his severance contract meaning he can’t join a rival club within a set time period unless compensation paid.

Could have it a bit like what happens sometimes with players. Robins joins Hull but he can't be involved in the game against us :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Non competes are standard in a few industries.

Players and managers contracts are not governed my Employment legislation
It's contract law and both sides usually have legal advice

Did you read that? That’s what it’s saying. I’ve known lots of people with non competes in their contracts, especially in industries like sales or where there’s a few big competitors nearby.

This is not someone who’s handed in their notice to go somewhere else, this is someone who has been sacked because they were deemed to be not good enough.

I think you’d be hard pushed to find any kind of employment tribunal which would enforce a non-compete clause under those circumstances.
