I know that - the problem is that it's quite difficult to find out when these major events are on, because they're not very major.
Try booking 200 rooms for a conference
I'm glad you mentioned Goodwood FoS. One of the hotels I look after is one of the closest 4star hotels in the area...we could sell the hotel 5 times over on those dates. We still fill on Tuesdays and Wednesdays regularly, even though we're in rural West Sussex.
For FoS, pretty every hotel on the South Coast between Brighton and Southampton (and as far North as Guildford) are full (with reservations anyway).
Look....I think a combination of common sense + the abundance of real-time evidence gathered by Grendel here (too much time on your hands mate) pretty much proves that a "Series of hotels" on the outskirts of the city next to a Tesco & an empty stadium is a shit idea....
...Yes, there are always exceptions.....you know...the one night per decade Bruce Springsteen arrives in town....guess what....their may be a higher demand for rooms...
...but for Le*cester U21 games, mystic fucking meg or some tin-pot trade show about kitchen worktops.....I can't see them queueing off the M6...can you.
Guy from TPA on CWR said councils have no reason to build hotels or own stadiums.

Yes it is directly relevant to the chances of seeing your football club playing in your city again.
TPA? .

...... This whole thread is ignorant bollocks.
Who actually gives a shit if they build one?

That's odd. I come to work in Coventry every week and know a number of others who work here who do the same. Only once has a shortage come to light and that was when the university held its graduation ceremony.

I am guessing the T stands for Tory, P stands for Party, A could stand for Arseholes, Animals, Androids, Aliens???
Me oh and Sisu
Why are you bothered if they build a hotel there? Seriously.
Were you outside clapping when Frankie and Bennies opened?
Imagine the football club were at the Ricoh, or imagine they never moved from Highfield Road. I guarantee that the majority of people defending the building of Hotels around such a complex would all think it was a ridiculous idea.
Highfield Road then yes, The Ricoh Arena then no. Highfield Road was a football stadium and the Ricoh Arena is a multi purpose events stadium so makes sense. One final note, I would take the largest eyesore of a hotel in the world outside the Ricoh at the minute just as long as we were playing there. Who cares what's outside? we used to walk past some of the ugliest hookers in the world on the way to Highfield Road but it's all about what's in there.
Multi purpose? Is Sally a gymnast as well as a fortune teller?
They were weren't they still makes me shudder thinking about who would:thinking about:Highfield Road then yes, The Ricoh Arena then no. At the end of 25 pages and having read the Tweets regarding the Council budget earlier on this afternoon I can't see the need for more hotels around that area, as Grendel has pointed out not every hotel is not booked up, but rightly Grendel an Weeman have indicated that at peak times the local area may struggle which is justifiable.
The issue currently is there aren't enough high profile events happening at the Ricoh IMO to warrant a new Hotel from what I can see on there calendar, although I am tempted to pop along to Psychic Sally and ask her when CCFC is likely to return to the Ricoh and if this Forum will ever return to normality.
Tax Payers Alliance.
He said Councils should concentrate on their core services. Building hotels and owning stadiums puts CT money at risk.

If you were booking 200 rooms for a conference you'd probably be booking the conference as well. In which case, you'd look at venues that could host 200 people and the hotels around that venue (or in/on it).

Sorry mate, not trying to catch you out, but I'm reasonably certain that SISU wanted to buy out the whole thing for themselves for around £6m - £7m. Hence presenting ACL as distressed.
In fairness, I'm too busy atm to dig it out myself, but if I can find it later I'll come back to you.
Didn't the council get an independent evaluation of the Ricoh before remortgaging and the value, based on the club there paying £500k rent per year came out at £6.5m for the whole lot?????
If that is what the council valued it, how much do you expect SISU to pay for the Ricoh with no football team there???
I think that's more likely to be a valuation of ACL, the business holding the lease, at the point that SISU weren't paying any rent, rather than a valuation of the entire Ricoh (costing £118m to build with a decent slab of land for development).
How much are SISU planning to spend on the new 12,000 seat arena?
