Interesting though as the telegraph will surely be taking action for the libel etc he is tweeting, after all Simon did try a thinly vieled threat once about his editor not liking something on here.
It makes it a coincidence if you want it to I guess. However, the fact there's nothing to support any such link, unless you know different, would just make it opinion.

Reid wasn't sack, he resigned. He'd been suspended, but following this going to a hearing they found in his favour and he got a pay out. The editor moved to a different role and there's nothing to show this was intrinsically linked with the LR situation - it's possible he thought, sod this for a game of soldiers and decided to move on, but he wasn't sack, dismissed or suspended from his role at CT.
