It would be a financial disaster for the economy, in terms of demographics you'd get the dreaded reverse pyramid, ie, way too many elderly not working, drawing a pension and swamping the NHS,
while at the same time having way to few people in work to pay the taxes to fund all the pensions, let alone maintaining the nations infrastructure.

Ask yourself this, if our birth rate is declining so rapidly (which it is) why are we building so many new houses? And who is going to be buying and occupying all these houses in 30 years time???

My guess is that the government are quietly encouraging all immigration, both legal and illegal, in order to sustain a future work force, and I suggest any noise they make about stopping the illegal migrants is nothing but lip service.
I actually think they are secretly accelerating the process before other European countries try to tempt them to come.

This all plays into the left wings recent university campaigns of recent years, to quietly poison the minds of our young against being British, and to blame Britain and colonialism for the worlds ills, and so to raise a generation of young tax payers who are open to see the culture of the country dramatically change in an incredibly short period of time.
That makes no sense and only a short term fix as they'll all grow old too. A declining population would have a tough start for a generation but for the long term good imo otheriwse it will continue and there will never be enough resource or people to service an ever increasing problem. It's the people equivalent of quantitative easing.

Humane and Respectful or rinsed?
Sometimes I’m sure being kind means you are manipulated and taken advantage of
Mostly we are only responsible for ourselves and doing the right thing is always the right thing
Agreeing what that is though um tricky

Careful we don’t pull apart again and I know we won’t change anything other than open ourselves up to others opinions but let’s try and stay on potential solutions

I know this is fag packet maths but if we are sending £500mill to France every year to stop this then surely it would more than cover the cost of adequate policing of the problematic sections of coast day and night.

The issue with the aging population is a chicken and egg one. People are not having children due to housing costs, schooling and adequate health services. Mass immigration is amplifying these issues and the cycle gets worse and worse.

We are already the most densely populated country in europe along with Belgium.

Pete, a genuine question here if you dont mind. Just for my own curiosity.
Have you had many immigrants converting tobthe Church and if so have many stuck with it or have they moved on after being accepted?

We do because we are a nation that means something that wants to lead the world in doing the right thing and being humane and respectful

We need a worldwide consensus or we need to play hardball and use our military but know that this doesn’t come without consequences

Probably bang on about pensions

Lead the world? We're a tiny nation that gets laughed at by others. We have no power any more. We have a weak leader in charge (and have done for years).

How would you solve this?

Yeah who knows eh
Probably have something like the United Nations articles for declared humans rights and then we need enough police to deal with the criminal activity which this clearly is
We need some common values which I thought we had.
We always had the problem that if you have money you can get away with stuff and now it’s if you have friends in high places you can get away with stuff
If you have a hard upbringing you can get away with stuff
And at the same time chancers like Rupert lowe and Ben habib and Nigel Farage saying complex questions have simple answers means we are able to look at othrs and say you’re the problem rather than looking at the mirror and starting with ourselves

A short term fix is exactly what's needed for a (relatively) short term problem, which is how do the government financially cope, when the boomers all retire at the same time.

For the last 40 odd years the government has had a healthy population of tax paying workers to support the retired population, in fact we've had periods where there weren't enough jobs for all those workers.
But now a disproportionately large section of that work force are looking forward to retirement and will do so around the same time.

When they do retire, the taxes of the remaining work force will not be able to sustain them. Governments have been able to partly mitigate that by forcing people to work longer, and thus keeping them paying tax longer, but that has only served to kick the can down the road.

Looking forward another 30+ odd years when the boomers have died off, the problem will probably ease due in part to the lessening of the burden on the treasury and the impact of the immigrant work force who will be required to "plug the tax hole" in the mean time.

And what happens after that is hardly the concern of today's politicians,

(maybe there will be another pandemic and the government of the day can send sick pensioners out of the hospitals back into care homes where they can infect all the other elderly, kill tens of thousands of them, and the treasury can save a fortune on pension payments and care costs, while at the same time the nightingale hospitals sit empty!!!! But I digress 🤔 )

but don't be suprised if the NHS comes to an end at some time, in favour of some sort of private health insurance scheme, and the state pension will go the same way now that money purchase pension schemes are in place.

But just look around you guys, things are changing!

Our increase in church attendance and our diverse congregations are completely out of kilter from what’s happened in the Church of England nationally and locally

We have large Nigerian, Pakistani, Indian and Chinese groups and most are from university who have come to do business management or equivalent at cov uni and are linked with places like Jaguar for work placements that end up with jobs

We’ve certainly had many people who are new to Christianity and then move on but also many people who are new who then take a huge part of church life

It’s humbles me talking to people who are from Iraq or Syria and hearing their and their families experience and helps me be grateful for what I have

I know it’s trendy to say we have no influence and we have weak leadership
It’s not how we are seen by many other nations across swathes of areas whether it’s science or our part in shared institutions like the un and echr

The world looks with envy at our democracy and our legal system again I know it’s trendy not to

Yeah it must be great to have a charity that will tell you exactly how to get into the country and then will legally represent you to help you stay in the country...all for free. Want medical care and prescriptions? Free. Place to live? Free. Want to fire loads of kids out, they get paid for? Dental Care? Free, Bus pass? Ah go on free.

It's the envy for people who want to get on the gravy train. People can enter the country illegally and then the tax payer will pay for everything and then pay for coaching and lawyers to get them asylum.

Keir Starmer is an absolute pansy, he looks like he's about to burst into tears at any moment any time he speaks to the nation. Other nations see us as weak and a soft touch and they're correct.

I’m not sure that’s quite how it works but you’re a reasonable man and if that’s your perception then it needs listening to and challenging
My experience is people with trauma given pretty awful housing with no right to work pre paid cards with money for basic food and stuff but it may have changed significantly

I don’t think it has

Which? France? USA? Every other nation? Sounds a bit like every Muslim or every white person to me
We’re not generic groups who think and act the same just cause we share a gender or a faith or a place of birth

State pensions being a Ponzi scheme? I hadn't thought about it that way before, but yes.

If I was in charge I'd have a serious look into removing the state pension for those currently under 40 (I would be included). In return would have a lump sum as a sweetener than lower NI contributions and everyone would be expected to fund their own pension. Short term it would be but long term would save a fortune and removes the need for countless people coming in.

So if you are saying that everybody coming over has trauma then isn't there increased risk of mental health issues?

Hotel rooms that would cost me or you £100 a night.
Food Provided
Free Healthcare (With Travel Costs)
Free Eye Tests
Free Prescriptions
Free Bus Passes in some places
They can even get a free wig if they want.

If they can somehow fire out some kids while they are waiting then the benefits just keep going up.

Where’s the healthcare from?
Earn eye tests and prescriptions and bus passes?
Is this after they’ve got leave to remain? Or whilst claiming asylum?

Apropos of nothing

Are you saying that being gay is not an issue in these countries?
That people are lying about being gay
That the home office just rubber stamp a claim when the person says they’re gay?
It’s not what a friend who works for the immigration law centre has experienced

We have a,ready had a discussion somewhere about private health providers being commissioned to deliver services.

I don’t get why you would even think it worth asking whether it’s whilst claiming asylum? How else are they go7ng to access healthcare. They won’t be facing the same waits to see a GP as someone who has paid UK taxes all their adult life.

Is it any wonder that there is such a strength of feeling amongst many people?

I'm not sure what your point is? Are you trying to play it down?

Yes, they get that stuff for free,

Do you genuinely not know this?

Not my statistics Pete. It‘s official government data. Three times the previous years numbers,

How do you prove if someone is genuinely gay or just been advised to make that claim - probably by staff at an immigration law centre.

PS they don’t “earn” anything, it’s all just handed on a plate.

I think you are probably far too nice for your own good.

The local shop is robbed daily and undesirables wandering the streets day and night

Sounds like Earlsdon Co-op, and I can tell you the people robbing it aren't asylum seekers, fella.

A thread about kids being killed has descended into blaming immigrants and poor people. Pathetic.

Towing dinghies back to France isn't gonna sort any of the root causes or stop people crossing.

How short are peoples' memories? Used to be the tunnel, that got put in the spotlight, now it's boats.

Desperate people will find a way to get here. If you can't accept that, you're just howling into the void.

I’m pretty sure towing boats back would stop people crossing in boats.
