I often felt when COH was out of our team that we weren't as strong defensively. The pressure he would put on defenders would stop teams building attacks on us. Also, add into that free kicks and the relief of pressure. He wasn't quite as effective at this post injury but he still had the ability to move us up the pitch. We miss both of these aspects of his play. Rudoni has the potential to do this I think, but I think he'll grow into the role.

I do see potential in a lot of our players, Bassette, Rudoni, Torp, Binks, Dovin, but out of all of those, I'm only really confident in Rudoni, Torp and Dovin being effective from the start of games and consistently through 90 minutes at the mo, Torp less so.

O’Hare is missed massively, take out the drop in form when he knew he was going and I’d say he was our best player. Even when he didn’t have the ball he was everywhere- pressurising, pestering, winning free kicks, he’s a huge loss.

He got slated on here as there was bitterness around who he went to & the manner of it, but that’s silly- we miss him very badly.

Would have O'Hare back in a heartbeat

I tended to describe O’Hare as a defensive 10. Could do the running of 2 players, was fantastic without the ball. That intensity is hugely lacking from our play this season.

Too early to call Bassette, Dovin, Rapha and EMC
BTA isnt a Miss but neither a hit, would you rather him off the bench (can play accross the frontline) or Tyler Walker and Godden.
Rudoni certainly isnt a miss he’s been a mainstay and is a good player sometimes goes hiding but that can be coached out of him, certainly has potential, definitely a hit.
Binks Im not sure on potentially can call him a miss as he’s not had a clean sheet whilst being at the back yet has he? Very likeable and certainly shown potential but he’s not vocal enough and is too easily bullied.

I’d say

Dovin - Too early to tell. Looks like he has potential but maybe not number 1 yet. Probably over paid.
Collins - Awful. Was cheap and still over paid.
MvE - Difficult second season, got the potential to be worth more than we paid.
Thomas - £2m for a young CB is OK.
Binks - <£2m for a young CB isn’t too bad.
Kitching - Pants down, lube not applied. Massively over paid.
Lats - Young and cheap, seems good around the dressing room. I have no issue with him.
Dasilva - Cheap, good on the ball, would be fine if we had a better first team LB and used him sparingly.
Saka - A bit old but decent for the money. Won’t ever be worth more than we paid.
Torp - Think we over paid, not young and not standing out either. Could still come good in the right system maybe.
Rudoni - Slightly over paid, decent young player who drifts in and out of games. Could well get our money back.
EMC - Massively over paid. Not young, had a couple of decent seasons. Might acclimatise but doesn’t look worth the fee.
Raphael - Did he cost anything? Random gamble, I’m fine with that.
BTA - Decent squad player, like his energy, overpaid for him though.
Wright - Probably paid exactly what he’s worth, might be worth more now after two good seasons in England.
Simms - His record is OK, but doesn’t pass the eye test at all. Probably OK fee without add ons which hopefully we aren’t paying. Unless he turns it around I can’t see us making our money back, but if he does we might make a profit. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Bassette - Slightly over paid for how raw he is, but young and a decent prospect. Again could do either way.

So since Austin trying to be fair I’ve got 17 signings. 2-3 young and too early to call perhaps but maybe overpaid. 5-6 we definitely over paid for. 4-5 we probably got spot on in terms of value. And 1-2 who are likely to be worth more than we paid. And some others to make 17 lol

Are we keeping him safe for a move in Jan?

Is Austin just the name to beat with a stick now everyone is over the coaching team that were appointed by Robins?
They weren't all driven by him were they..
Collins and Dasilva - Adi written all over them
Kitching, BTA, Rudoni (who i rate), Binks (at an absolute minimum) - all players chased by Robins and put together make up a pretty hefty chunk of cash

There's some decent players there identified from overseas imo, it's nowhere near as bad as people make out.

They were all scouted by him, also it’s most of the squad that isn’t out of contract at the end of the year. I’m trying to be fair here. I think Kitching and EMC are dragging down the negative column and we’re relying on MvE or Simms turning it around for an overall profit should we magically sell everyone at once basically.

I think our biggest issue will be the concentration of good players even if currently off form we could see leave in the summer. Wright, MvE, Sheaf all likely, Simms a possibility. It doesn’t leave us with a lot to work with, a lot of the OK buys have been good squad players (Lats, Dasilva, BTA) but not people you build a squad around and the young prospects (Dovin, Rudoni, Bassette) are yet to really show it consistently at this level. Rudoni obviously the closest.

If we can ship out Collins, EMC and Kitching if they don’t come good by the end of the season, release Bidders Allen Wilson and Tavares and have to sell Wright Sheaf and MvE you’re left with:

Dovin
Thomas, Binks, Lats, Dasilva
Eccles, Torp, Rudoni
Saka, Raphael, BTA
Simms, Bassette

so probably need 8-9 in for a squad. Its very doable is stars align and that’s not a bad basis for a young squad to add a bit of quality and experience to.

There's not a chance they'll give up on EMC by the end of the season, and they'd be mad to.

He's been underwhelming, but he's moved up a level and it takes time to adjust (he's also playing in a very unbalanced side). He may not be the type of player we should have spent big money on, but that doesn't mean he should be shipped out if his first season isn't the best.

Don’t think that’s too far wrong. The CB issue is pertinent, though, when looking at this - too many that would make reasonable squad players. Would have been happier just bringing in two of Thomas, Lati, Binks.

Still really keen to see Binks at LB in a more ‘advanced’ system but now Bidwell has returned I can’t see it happening.

Put the hound in at 10 behind the forwards , he’s the only one who presses

So that confirms Haji Wright's injury is worse than we thought. 😱

Dovin - will be fine but surprised we went for that sort of character.
Binks - odd one to pursue. Not good defensively.
EMC - Fine, just needs to let the handbrake off.
BTA - Fine, You don’t get double digit championship strikers for less than £2m
Bassette - Fine.

Of the recent signings the majority the jury is still out. The one exception is BTA . I still cannot fathom why the hell we signed him. West Brom fans must have been laughing their nuts off .

If you believe the media, Bassette is the only one who has attracted some interest from higher up the football pyramid.
That makes him the only one thus far who fits with the Chairmans folly of buying to sell on at a profit.

EMC ...got a couple of goals looks out of his depth ..couple of step overs no pace MISS

Raphael Borges... who I hear you ask

BTA.. come from West Brom who must be pissing themselves at getting 2 million for him MISS

Binks... not what we needed, why the hell did we sign him when he hardly played last season MISS

Norman... still very raw possibly a decent player time will tell MISS at the minute

Dovin... still unsure on him could be a decent developing number 2 if we had a number 1 MISS at the minute although better than what we are playing

Rudoni... think he would be better with some decent players around him but not as good as COH MISS at the minute

Me for doing this thread MISS
EMC - Seems to be getting better. Lots of potential
Raphael - Highly regarded. Hope to see him soon.
Binks - Like him, but prefer Kitching, He should be looked at for LB or DM for me. Technically superb
BTA - I think he's a half decent player, but we have better
Norman - Real talent. Ease him in slowly this season
Dovin - Steady, and is the best GK of the 3, but young.
Rudoni - Good signing. Not spectacular like Palmer & O'Hare but his assists and goals are better

Tbf Sheffield United play a different type of football to us so although O'Hare is playing in the 10, he is asked to play that role in a different way to how he played for us, he picks the ball in different positions, links up play differently, etc. so much better to compare Rudoni against O'Hare playing for us. The only metrics Rudoni is better at is assists and creating chances, but he takes set pieces so that will always be higher.

Back to the OP

EMC - for £4.5m he's a MISS for me. 2 good goals his around play is pretty poor and the two goals have papered over that

Bassette - HIT but only because he was 19 and always brought in for development, he is playing more than I imaging King had expected.

Dovin - MISS no better than what we already had

Binks - MISS he wasn't what we needed, we were already porous and in need for some experience at the back and we re-signed Binks. He can hit a nice pass but not great defensively.

Rudoni - at £2m i'd be happy but £5m and experienced in this league, I demand more. I expect more than good set pieces for £5m. MIXED

BTA - again about £2.5m for someone who doesn't really score goals, isn't particularly good on the ball but runs around a lot. I'm sure we could have got better for the money. And £2.5m is a lot for a 4th choice Striker MISS

Raphael - regardless of how he progresses, we're near the half way mark and he's not managed to get a place on the bench. MISS

Delighted with a win. We had to beat negative Hull and a proper twerp of a Ref.
It wasn’t always pretty and we made hard work of it but we were always the better team 👍

Oh the ref, utterly atrocious.

Is it true he didn't book the player that brought Bassette down in the box because he already had a yellow?

I'm not bitter about him leaving or who he went to. But I do feel he was over rated. After his injury he wasn't everywhere and pressurising.
