You only have to look on social media to see how wide of the mark fans are around finances. They seem to think 15000 crowds, 12000 season tickets and shirts sales should have converted us into a buying club. Their expectation on those figures are unrealistic. For instance a large demographic of our fan base buying an early bird season ticket will be contributing £12 a game per person. Great value for the fan but that explains one reason why the budgets are tight.

The thing with that is that there are plenty of other clubs with similar or lower gates to us, yet who seem to have more ability in the transfer market than we do.

It's probable that they're just overextending themselves to a greater degree than we are, but if we continue to do that in perpetuity it will eventually only lead to us slipping down again. We brought in the likes of Gyo, Hamer, O'Hare and Sheaf and may now be able to reap a significant reward for that if we sell them. So surely the incentive for SISU to continue that is there.

It could well be that wages are the bigger problem than fees, having to now pay much higher wages to get hold of Championship ready players.

I think you vastly over exaggerate the difference money from season tickets makes on the budget. We have signed all our best player to much bigger salaries and the fringe players were not earning combined what o’hare earns.

Next season will be the big rebuild I feel.

In many ways you are right.

For me this window it is clear we are looking to bring players in. Okay on a limited budget, but every budget has limits.

There is nothing to prove we have lost out on two of our targets due to money.

The transfer market is fluid and changes from day to day. Who isnt available today can change tomorrow. Every player coming in and going out changes the picture of what finances are available and what is required positionally. Long term injuries picked up can change it again.

I dont think we have missed out on much so far, the market is slow. People are getting too caught up in speculation.

Our wage contribution to loan players when they are playing will be less. That’s also the issue and why we couldn’t bring in a loan striker.

They cost very little compared to full signings and also obviously offer zero resell opportunities

If a summer of record season ticket sales, plus an extensive clearing of the decks of fringe first team players is only enough to secure one permanent signing all summer, then that’s very concerning indeed.

The situation is concerning of course as it has been for the last 10 years

The players that have been moved on haven't freed up a great deal of budget though. Pask, Jones, Drysdale and even Shipley all would've been relatively low earners.

I'm more than happy to keep hold of our main players if it means we have to settle for loans for 1 season.

Would still like to see Walker and Waghorn moved on to free up wages but can't see it happening.

A three year contract is why we're not scrambling in panic to sell Gyokeres or Sheaf this season, too...

Nah. Then after one year you're left with either having to offer them a new deal or sell them so they can't end up leaving on a free in a year.

Maybe a 2+1 in the clubs favour would be a better deal, but with a decent wage increase for that +1 so it's appealing to both the club and the player.

If any players move on it'll only be on loan and the club would still have to shoulder a significant proportion of their wages.

We do need cover for the striker positions. Obviously both Walker and Waghorn have been very disappointing but I feel we need to keep one and I would prefer it to be Walker as he has potential to be a Championship player if he develops parts of his game.

Maybe Waghorn will be better this season but I didn't see much last year to instil confidence. Maybe covid and injuries were the issue but I wonder if it is just his best days are behind him.

Romain Sawyers to Cardiff, great signing. How many more players we think they’ll sign? They’ve been doing some great business. Derby also signing some great older players, looks like they’ll bounce back up.

Some loans can be done with a figure set on a perm deal, like sheaf. I would think that is something MR would use as its worked before. Other than that depending on the players who are sold or loaned out, will have a massive effect on who and type of deal that comes in.

Kane, Walker, Waghorn and Kelly could still be moved on. I would imagine how the younger players perform over next few weeks will be a big factor in that decision.

Only if they turn out to be shit, if they aren’t very good and we dont play as well with them in the team then take the penalty and perform better I think, you can say how many games you are going to give them whilst not knowing how they matchup fully against the rest of your team, but you never know if they’ll actually fit in

Today they’re all foundational parts of our team, and if we sold any of them we’d get a significant return. As far as progressing the quality of the squad, it’s been an exciting and promising couple of years.

This summer we’re signing Kasey Palmer and in terms of permanent deals that’s apparently it. Even if he’s a smash hit (and I hope he is) it seems like the progress is becoming more incremental?

Whilst I do understand fans opinion that maybe it's not going to work out with Walker, he was our tip scorer the season before. That was without being fully fit or first choice for the whole season. This season was a bit of a bust. I sort of whish he'd stayed with us instead of loaning out. He would have had chances, and he's proved he can score at this level. It would be typical Cov for him to hit a purple patch this year then leave on a free!
