2) I'd like to see some facts to back up your second point. That's a pretty outrageous slur. The more the word gets dummed down by idiots like you, the more the real situations where they occur will get taken less seriously too.

Mowbray isn’t solely to blame, but he’s certainly responsible for very bad recruitment that summer which is a key factor in relegation.
However, choosing to keep Venus on was probably what did the most action. Before we held off appointment a replacement, the likes of Cotterill and Evans has applied for the job, iirc. Instead, we waited and ended up without Slade who had the worst win % in the whole football league, didn’t he? Slade’s tenure certainly condemned us to L2, no disagreements from me there.
If we got someone in like Robins, Evans, or anyone but Slade, the situation could’ve been possibly reversible.
With hindsight though, we probably needed relegation to L2 to rebuild properly and we’re all grateful we didn’t stick around in L2 for two long!

Agree with all of this. I fail to understand why posters stick up for Mowbray like he did no wrong as IMO it comes across as stubbornness. Great Championship manager but he has little knowledge of the lower leagues, which inevitably cost us.
Spade put the final nail in the coffin but as someone else has rightly said, it was messing around with Venus all that time that set us up for the major fall.
Yes MV killed the side completely of any hope or confidence they might of had after a mini revival at Port Vale and Chesterfield before the beating at Charlton.

Unfortunately it was TM’s failure that summer that set to tone if you pardon the pun. Yes without doubt Slade drove us into the ground completely but that summer was fateful.
A plan had to of been in order at the time players meet the manager in May to see who’s staying or going. We all knew a lot were leaving so players were needed. Added with the fact the loan window closed the 31st of August for the first time made everyone get business in order early summer.
We didn’t, no clear plan for the recruitment on budget available.
In terms of managers available at the time TM drove away forever (via cc4l house) after the Wimbledon game, Evans was available prior to joining Mansfield but I’m not so sure he’d of faired any better. He’s a history of bringing his players in on a fair budget. Maybe he’d of loved the challenge and got into it or at least had time to plan for a critical January window.
Slade on paper looked the man, worked his hole career on not so much of a shoe string and never been relegated. Perfect firefighter job with the cv to match.
I do however thank Russell Slade for one thing, last season was one of the best I’ve had, game me and my son memories forever. I loved every Saturday traveling up and down the country and going to work that night after a win! Oh and another day at Wembley too.

Given Slade’s credentials, it’s no surprise people were generally positive with his appointment. At the time, I felt it was a good appointment.
Looking back, it was a stupid position not to appointment a new manager in the run up to the Jan transfer window. Whilst Venus, iirc, started off quite well (comparatively), he was still a continuation from Mowbray and we really needed to change regime. If there was no quality candidates, I’d understand but the candidates were good considering our position. Evans is detestable, but his achievements speak for themselves.
But, we got promoted last season we’re back in the ‘big time’ that is L1 and doing well. The bitter pill of relegation was worth in the end!
Well his recruiting in the summer was poor as has been said and he put all his eggs in one basket. I certainly wouldn’t put a bullet in his head and let’s remember he done the honourable thing by resigning.So, nothing to do with Mowbray then?

no he falls in to the first category. and i am always right which makes you wrong.There's a fine line between aiming high and being completely unrealistic. TM falls into the latter category.

oh for sure, i have thought that myself. sisu realised need to back the manager.so we owe him alot,not just the great football and highest placed finish in years, he also sorted out our notorious problem owners, the first man to do so! and now MR is reaping the benefitsI know TM and MV slightly
TM in particular is a really good, honourable guy
What he had to put up with probably helped MR who was given a more realistic budget when he came in
For me the key point was his mate he put upstairs to do the numbers in Mark Venus, he put him in purposely so TM could concentrate on the football with Jamie Clapham initially.
So....
1) why was it then such a surprise that Sisu wouldn’t invest that summer or the numbers couldn’t stretch to what TM wanted to do when his mates the numbers man?
2) Why did TM then not adapt to the scenario and budget given and work through the out of contract players and make do with a crap situation?
At least then if it went wrong he can say this was all I could do, sorry.
I think we’d be all a bit more accepting of the summer transfers then
To be stubborn and still chase championship quality players in a pipe dream with a man of his experience knowing he was only offering a bag of crisps and a sausage roll to play for him but then blow a chunk of the budget we didn’t have on Jordan Turnbull is mind blowing!

1) who knows when he found out sisu were reducing budget? maybe he put MV there to fight agaisnt this to no avail.@covcity4life, I’ve no issue with your admiration towards TM.
Tactically on the pitch I’ve not no real issues with what he did in his time here but I’m genuinely interested in your thoughts on these points?
