If we don't like what the EU does we can do nothing other than leave. If we don't like what the British politicians do we vote against them. Just like the majority who voted in the referendum did. So yes at least we have a say.

The way to can this narrow win rubbish is for parliament to pass a referendum act that makes it mandatory for them to enact the result of any future referendum if the result is over (say) 55% for a change and to do nothing otherwise. As it stands they can ignore any result if they wish. I'm pretty sure they'll fudge the issue & no one will get what they want in the end.

Some remainers say almost 1.5million votes in difference is actually very little and 52-48 is too close to call. Well is it?

Wasn't this the biggest turn out ever in a public vote including General elections etc? I would argue this makes the result more valid and actually bigger difference because of it.

Also where were the others who wanted to remain apparently but didn't vote?

How about Geldof? He thinks he can tell us what we should do. Where would he be without one hit record? I wouldn't put him up as a role model.

The wife put a programme on TV last night that she recorded earlier. It had Adrian Childs on. They went near the Bullring. At one part they were talking to mainly the Indian population. About 70/30 voted leave. They showed others from the ethnic minorities that voted leave. They gave their reasons why. A lot of it was to do with uncontrolled immigration. Are they racist? They mentioned about jobs lost to those coming in willing to work for less. Being here for the money and not wanting to become part of the community. And that was just part of it.

The wife, who was for remain as much as anyone on here, suddenly realised that there was much more to it than she realised. She still thinks we should remain. But her eyes have finally opened up to the problems she hadn't realised really do exist.

It'd funny that she never had any problems until the campaigning started though. There seems to be a general ignorance amongst a lot of the population about what is going on. Someone at work asked me yesterday what we were going to do now that the 'new law' had been passed that stopped immigrants entering the country; he genuinely thought we were already out of the EU and literally shut the borders.

I wonder how many other ill-informed people are out there?

Anyway we are off to the power hungry EU today for a couple of weeks to escape this miserable island.

I can see those MP's in London getting away with it. But most of the rest of the country voted leave. If they don't listen to their constituents they will get voted out next time. And they know it.

I have yet to meet anyone that thinks there has been a new law after the referendum. I am yet to meet anyone who thinks anyone who has moved here from the EU should leave, and I have yet to meet anyone who has been subjected to any abuse. We each have different experiences, but don't tar everyone with the same brush just because you have experienced something different.

Before you attack me on the fact of where your partner is from and the abuse that she has received, which I think is abhorrent, take a step back and consider you know nothing of my back ground, and the fact that I have been subjected to such abuse in the past, but nothing, not one thing since the referendum was ever spoken about.

I didn't as both sides were full of shit and didn't deserve my vote.

I can see the benefits of being both in and out of the EU. Personally I think I would be better off in. But nobody knows. I get called uneducated Ill informed? I have invested for over 20 years. All of my shares are now in America until things calm down over here. I know the way international economies work. I know about trade and trade deals. And I also know being in the EU in it's present state will not be good for our long term future.

Ok, it wasn't on his agenda because he had hoped to win, but in the case of a narrow 52:48 loss he clearly stated that it would prompt him to fight for a second referendum. A rerun. You cannot get it much clearer. It actually happened - 52:48 -, so when is the rerun? Based on what was said in advance. I am agreeing with him that 52:48 is not conclusive and that it is unfinished business. We need an election and for parliament to follow the law and pass an act - in whatever direction parliament chooses - after debate and taking all views into account. Not easy as we have a split country.

I voted remain, I don't think it was a good move to vote leave. Having said that, I accept I was in a minority on this occasion and we have to now work together to make the best of the situation.
