I am happy we apparently turned down offers for our youngsters at least we can hover around relegation of the league below next year saying as such

Venus controls the budget , is responsible for player negotiations aswel I believe .
Find it odd we keep missing out on all our targets , he will know why

What factors drive a player to choose one club over another? I can only think of four main ones: get paid more elsewhere, will play more games, more attractive team, get on well with the manager.

In summer we were reasonably attractive but tried to hire championship players. Now we are unattractive to league 1 players.

It may be something else, but the above ain't helping.

People not leaving was a positive. I believe in bringing in who you want to bring in and don't start chasing around after anyone.

I have been saying for a long time that signing players is difficult, you don't just phone them up and they join.

This season is as good as a lost cause. But we do need to start structuring for next season and regarding that I do wonder whether Slade is the right appointment?

It's doesn't matter who is in charge next season if Sisu are still here.

I have been saying that as well and wasn't really bothered who we appointed after Mowbray. But you have to try and keep some form of hope however small. Otherwise you just pack it in altogether.

This window completely shows that Sisu and Fisher have given up on the club.

No ambition to get some experienced players in to have a go at staying in this league.

Sisu have parked the bus and as long as the club is breaking even they don't need to worry about this investment.

Is there any point to the rest of this season as a Coventry fan?

i wonder if otis will be starting threads about this recruitment window?

This is true, if we don't have a manager confirmed by end of May then we're gonna fall behind other in the recruitment of the free agents again.
The structure needs to be in place just to stop another year of poor recruitment and going to league 2 grounds and being pushed around supporting our "own"
At this level players become readily available in the summer as they are only generally on a 2 year deal tops.

No.

Said before, I think Clarke is an improvement on what we had and so too Beavon.

Too soon to judge Rawson and Vernam yet and obviously we have only just got Folivi.

The recruitment in the summer was an absolute abomination. We all know it.

The jury is still out on THIS recruitment window. Slade however inherited a lemon.

Jo Murphy
Stuart Okeef
Nicky Ajose
Charlie Wyke
Le Fondre (wouldn't come to us)

However to do the above if the rumours of values are true ironically in this situation I would have accepted cut price sales.

Stevenson 1 million if that was offered
Willis £500k if that was offered
Haynes 200k if that was offered.

All undervalued but if it allows you to sign the people that allows you to stay up. Then needs must.

I know for a fact that we were offered £325K for Willis and £125K for Haynes
Not sure about Stevenson but the strong rumour is £600K plus loads of add ons

if we are in league 2 we need a new manager not new contract for slade.

I'm gonna be brave... I'd stick with him.
His preferred style of football would be far more effective if he had a summer to get his own team in and not a window. And it will suit league two. The state of some of them pitches at the minute is like going back 25 years.
Sure it's not working at the minute, hence the last few formations we've tried to find a formula with personnel we have. Confidence is so low and the longer a game goes on the more fragile we look. With no natural goal scorer we've been in big trouble for a long long time.
Chesterfield was poor, but the telling difference was a 30 yard shot... if only Thomas managed to convert his chance, Tudgay was deemed onside..
Fleetwood was ugly football but we set up to stop the form side in the league who've scored in every game this year bar one... and the days later beat sheff Utd 2-0.
Northampton, Willis off early on didn't help matters then and as usual with a big following we collapse.
This summer is critical, the biggest summer the clubs faced for years, we need stability on the managerial side. Cannot waste time interviewing taking till start of the preseason to hire a new man. A manager needs to have his targets identified by middle of May to get the skeleton of the team outlined and set about doing business especially with the predicted slump in season ticket sales.
Waste time and we're looking like doing a Luton, Stockport and dropping out the league only this time we all know it will be for good.
Stability is key....

Yes, agree, but can see Slade's contract not being renewed in the summer and Sam Ricketts taking over.

tells me we have pretty much that to save us we have the same squad that has taken 2 points out of 21 under Slade.

Yes we retained the family silverware such as it is (Stevenson, Harries, Willis etc) but what has or can change about how the squad can go forward. Good luck to Folivi but it is hard to see he can make a big enough difference in 18 games.

I think that with what is going on, the inability to competively fund, the league position and results, the toxic atmosphere it has made it extremely difficult to bring in the players we really need. I do not think it has been through lack of effort or having some budget (though I doubt it was much). To do any serious business needed a sale to be completed I would think

The squad is still dangerously threadbare, unbalanced and lacking physical presence, confidence and quality (with one may be two exceptions). We still let in soft goals and fail to create enough opportunities to get the goals needed. The pattern of play is confused, lumping balls up to little fellas is rarely going to work, and we are running out of time. This transfer window hasn't changed that

Does retaining the three/four "stars" (have they been really?) perhaps create a further problem down the line. The club needs to sell players to survive, it looks like incomes will crash next season, we will I fear be L2 and that will devalue the playing squad or sales achievable. The last home fixture is 22 April the following season starts around 7 August in that gap the club has no income, yes some players will go at end of loans/contracts but there are still overheads to be met and wont be caught up by season ticket sales.

Academy deal finishes 30 June, how many clubs can afford Cat2 in League 2? Can we and if we cant then as it is vital to our future where does that leave us?

Perhaps I'm not keeping up but we didn't get anyone in? BUT we kept our star players? So each year we call them out for selling our best to cash in (Madison etc) but when they don't do that you are complaining? dammed if you do and dammed if you don't?

Star players?? That is one of the funniest posts ever on here lol

Who can you class as star players?

So you are holding a manager who had 10 games as accointablw for relegation. But the actualy manager in charge for half a season that sees us relegated deserves a new contract.

Wow

Did anyone else get the impression that aside from the willy waving going on (we this, we that, the implied told you so we know best etc ) that Mr Reid became a way of managing fans expectation for the club? The bottom line was that very little actually seemed to happen. It was built up and let down slowly and easily. The only surprise is no one left, perhaps for CCFC to survive in L1 they needed to?

Yes, that's exactly what I said!! Of course it is. Doh!!!

I am merely stating what I think the club will do.

I made absolutely no opinion on the matter of Slade's management.

I think they won't renew his contract should we go down and think they will go for the cheaper option of Ricketts.

Wow indeed.

Looked to me that he was mostly disproving things the Telegraph were posting. I'd say the Telegraph were trying to sensationalise things, big headline about Willis going etc.

In between Willy Waving.

Really not sure what to make of this window. A few players in...Clarke and beavon seem ok but we lost sordell. Too early to judge others. I really thought we would sell a few of our youngsters but it hasn't happened. I can't believe it is because sisu now have a strategy in place to keep talent and build solidly for the future...past experience tells us otherwise. As for them holding out for a few more pieces of silver doesn't really stack up. Are there movements behind the scenes re new ownership and if the rumours are true would that make it more or less likely some young players would move on? All in all this has been a baffling window...no seeming urgency to get new players in to rescue the season and no urgency to move players out. I'm genuinely confused.

I agree that stability is key, yes.

If someone is completely failing though you have to get rid don't you?

Still a lot of games to go, so for me the jury is still out on Slade. If we don't win another game this season I would very much guess I wouldn't want him here.

If he can make a bit of a fist of it and we can see roots of a plan going forward, then yep, stability.

Stability is key... especially as we're looking sinking into the 4th division with a fan base falling away weekly for various reasons and protests against the clubs owners.

I was a fan of TM like yourself but the key fact is that our summer recruitment has left us short massively. Now some of that portion of blame falls on TM/JC and MV.
TM tried to sign championship quality players, we all want to hear that.. however for various reasons them targets failed to materialise. But by then it's too late and all realistic signings had been taken leaving us looking to strengthen last minute with youth loans and listening to him moaning in every interview that were relying on kids to do a mans job.
TM had his budget set before he set his list out... he knew how far he could stretch. In my eyes he aimed too high and ultimately it's cost us. He even had money spent on JJ and Turnbull however that was sauced out the budget.
Slade has arrived at a time when the clubs at it's all time lowest point on and off the pitch, he's tried to stabilise a woefully low squad of kids lacking confidence and goals.
The football has suffered to what we seen under TM but we're a far different team to when he left us and MV handed over to Slade.
Back to basics Slade told us, fundamental things we're doing wrong, try to win ugly and stop the other team we were briefed.
Slade has since strengthened the defence massively with clarke and likely Rawson. The hight and physicality has improved just not the performance and results as he's failed to lure in a suitable striker from what we've seen.
Maybe Vernam and the Watford kid may chip in with some welcome goals.
In my eyes more than ever the club needs a budget experienced manager who really understands that demands of the league we face and experienced in assembling a side over a summer starting end of April

I avoided all the deadline day yesterday, glad I did, I feel no apathy at all.

When have we ever had a good January transfer window?
