Never been a fan of his. I don't think there's one of his films I could say I liked.

Does anyone rate Woody Allen films?

In my opinion, some of them rank among the best films ever made. 'Annie Hall', 'Manhattan', 'Hannah and her Sisters', 'Purple Rose of Cairo'. But they are very USA-culture oriented and you have to understand the American (and particularly New York) culture to appreciate them. Even if you don't like Woody Allen, surely you like Diane Keaton?

How about "Our Man Flint" and "In Like Flint" with James Coburn?
They are really spoofs of James Bond films, but good fun all the same.
For a long time I had the 'red telephone' ring as my ringtone.

They were great films. I have the soundtrack to Our Man Flint. Might play it today.

are two belters.

Surprised it took so long for Midnight express to be mentioned, so take a bow sir! Probably these two won't qualify as they are a bit later-Casino and Good fellas. Sleepers is also good.

Had to resurrect this thread because I just watched an old film. Well if 1970 is old. It's based on a 1960 novel.
Rabbit, Run (film) - Wikipedia
James Caan is the lead actor.
Not a particularly great film but it features an actress I've never heard of before who I thought was absolutely gorgeous, Anjanette Comer.

Saw another one "The Picasso Summer" with Albert Finney and Yvette Mimieux.
A truly atrocious film, but Yvette Mimieux was a joy to watch.

Sexy Beast, Ray Winstone's best film imo
Quadraphenia, was brilliant at the time.
Rita, Sue and Bob to.
The one where a submarine and its crew are shrunk, and travel round a mans body.
Shooters, brutally real.
Thought the Ealing comedy's were great:
The Lady Killers.
Passport to Pimlico.
And especially
Kind Hearts and Coronets.

Just watched "I Knew Her Well" from 1965. Italian movie featuring the gorgeous and spellbinding Stefania Sandrelli.
Excellent film but probably only if you like Italian films.
Lots of Italian street scenes and 1960's Italian cars.

Personally, I still enjoy The Pink Panther Sellars' Clouseau series. The Steve Martin rehashes are plain awful though.
Why do they do these re-makes? If they are good movies e.g. Titanic, Planet of the Apes & lots more successful ones - just leave them well alone is my plea.

Yes, they are all very funny, and I dislike the needless remakes too.
Sometime you should watch "Mother". You'd probably get a few laughs.

Just saw 'Term of Trial' from 1962 with Laurence Olivier, Simone Signoret and Sarah Miles.
Sarah Miles and Terence Stamp made their film debuts in this.
Basic plot: female student (Sarah Miles) becomes infatuated with unhappily married teacher (Laurence Olivier).
Very good film. Sarah Miles was brilliant.

You can't go far wrong with Alfred Hitchcock. So many great movies he made. Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window, Rebecca, Suspicion, The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, Notorious, North by Northwest, Shadow of a Doubt, Frenzy etc.

Watched in the heat of the night the other week. What a great film. Addressing some of the uglier sides of society in the process as well, sadly a lot of those uglier things seem to be creeping back into society and some of the messages are becoming relevant again.

Just watched "Journey to Italy" 1955 with Ingrid Bergman and George Sanders.
It's an Italian film with English dialogue. But the version I saw was dubbed in Italian with English sub-titles. Weird.
The two main characters drive an interesting car. I've been wondering what it is. I'll post a photo of it in the 'Cars' thread and see if any one can identify it.

The one with the shrunken submarine I think was called the incredible journey or something like that. Bang on about sexy beast although I thought Ben Kingsley stole the show from Ray Winstone. Only ever seen the Koen brothers version of the lady killers with Tom Hanks, which is also a very good film although I suspect nothing like the original.

Ray Winstone was in a movie that never got the accolades it deserved in my opinion. If you get the chance watch Love, Honour and Obey. Great cast and a great British film

Me and the current Mrs HH watched "Allied" recently. A really good war-time thriller with (dare I say it) a bit of romance thrown in. It stars Brad Pitt. Really good film and highly recommend it!

Just saw "Demon Seed" from 1977 with Julie Christie and Fritz Weaver.
Basic plot, mad scientist invents world's most powerful computer, it's actually alive.
When he is away, the computer develops a crush on his wife (Julie Christe), well who wouldn't?
Pretty good film, if only for Julie Christie and the amusing way futuristic computers were depicted in 1977.

Krzysztof Kieślowski, the Polish director who made the Three Colours trilogy, made a ten part TV series called Dekalog in the late 80s. It's absolutely brilliant.

Just watched "The Accused" from 1988 with Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis.
Plot: Woman gets gang-raped. Everyone says 'she asked for it' but she finds a sympathetic attorney (a woman of course).
Moral: Men bad, women good.
Excellent film though.
