That doesn't make any sense, somebody making themselves very wealthy doesn't always mean they're employing somebody. How many footballers, for example, actually create employment.
So how many rich sports.people playing now do we have?

Do they do everything themself or do they employ people to do what they don't want?

So are you saying that there is a decent amount of football players to business people?

But on a very primitive level if you eliminate tax avoidance you could spend on housing (including social) which would in turn create jobs.
If Juncker hadn't done the massive tax dodge with Luxembourg billions more in tax money would have been paid to the UK

I've held my hands up to be wrong before on here too, as have many others. Even when they are wrong? People are always going to have a range of opinions, just because you don't agree with them doesn't make them wrong.

Lol - Scotland are leaving the union, there will be a general election this year

There's still plenty of time for Scotland to leave, especially if things really go wrong with Brexit. The government's getting weaker and weaker, my prediction wad probably 6 months premature.

Neither were as bad as your posts about Labour being killed off for a generation and a massive landslide victory. ;) oh, and your sneering at those predicting a hung parliament.

surely if the countrys economy was destroyed within 3 years of labour being elected it would be the tories fault. They're still blaming Labour for our economic woes 7 years after the last labour government after all!

It always makes me laugh when people try and blame them for causing the 2008 recession.

It was caused by bank deregulation. And those who you call experts that say Brexit is bad totally got it wrong.

Scotland leave?

Sometimes I think you know what you are going on about. Others I know you don't have a clue. And this is one of them moments.

It could well happen, especially if Brexit goes very, very wrong. I'm not talking short-term but 10-15 years.

What your insight into the future?

Ah, you mean the way Catalonia decided to leave Spain but remain within the EU?

That went well, didn't it?

Not sure what that has to do with anything? What was the turnout for that referendum? Not sure what it has to do with the EU either. Unless you would like to see it intervene in domestic affairs?

There is no "independence" within the EU.

You are either a slave to the EU Super-State or you are outside of it.

Every Jock now knows that.

I am very cautious about what will happen in the UK in the very short term. But we won't have a clue until we see what sort of deal is made between the EU and UK.

You know that I am optimistic over that period of time. But I fear for the EU in that period of time. Germany will continue to get stronger. But what about the majority of the EU countries? They are piling on debt just to stay stationary. Jobs are not being created. People continue to leave the weaker countries. Even the stronger ones are not doing that well. The Euro might even be gone by then. All it will take is one seriously indebted country to go under to cause a catastrophe. That is why Juncker wants to be able to send in financial ministers to take over a countries fiscal policies. But I can't see it happening as many countries don't want to hand over their rights. And EU rules say that there must be a unanimous vote to change rules.

If it all goes badly wrong for the UK....and I can't see that happening.....it would be tough for a few years. But we have our own currency. This is the main advantage we would have over EU countries in the Euro that are not doing well. We would pull out of it within 3 to 5 years. Then we would get strong again. But the EU countries that rely on us with trade and receiving visitors would hit a brick wall if it happened. And they are tied to the Euro and how Germany is doing. So recovery would be problematic. They are struggling even in times of prosperity.

And how much of the EU can Germany keep going whilst they get back on their feet?

This is why I am expecting a decent trade deal. The UK would be cutting their nose off to spite their face. Some EU countries would be chopping their head off.

Massively disagree with that, but that's for another thread.

Good to see @Astute finally getting off the fence as well.
No fence to get off.

Or have you forgotten about Juncker saying about wanting a superstate with all new countries that join having to join the Euro. And that he wants there to be an EU army. He wants one person steering the ship EU enterprise. He wants to be able to send in people to take over fiscal policies of EU countries.

It isn't being on or off a fence. It is about something you don't seem to know much about. It is being neutral and being worried which way it is all going. And I am very worried about the direction that the EU seems to be going.

Don't you ever wonder all of this 'they need us more than we need them' isn't being played out in negotiations?

Other countries also holiday in other European countries too BTW. We ended up staying a recommended hotel in Lanzarote a couple of years ago and I was probably the only English person staying there. There were no fry ups or pints in sight either. ;)

You were recently wanting it to get involved in the Spain issue? Do you not think countries like Greece and Italy should not be allowed to cook the books and impact upon others?

I'm more worried about the direction of the UK at the moment, to be honest.

I don't know what yet?

The so called experts quoted on here as saying Brexit will be bad were wrong in the 2001 recession. They were wrong about the banking fiasco in 2008. They were wrong about what would happen if we voted leave. Yet they get quoted on here as saying Brexit will be bad for us.

What some people need to learn is that they are the politics of the financial markets. They try to steer which way we go in as they stand to benefit. They were all for bank deregulation. And look where that got us.

Why do you try to twist the truth? You have just said you don't.

Tourism was worth 50 billion Euros to Spain last year. 26% of tourists came from the UK. That is 12.7 billion Euros.

'Big BLOW' to Spain if UK tourists who bring BILLIONS into flimsy economy are forced out

The Spanish unemployment rate is over 17%. So what conclusion do you come to now?

Are you saying that I wanted anyone to cook the books?

The Catalonia fiasco has strengthened Scotland not wanting independence from the UK and to join the EU when we leave. But you can't see it.

How often do you go to Scotland? I go at least once a month. But I suppose you still know more than me. My daughter in law was massively for independence. But things have changed since their independence vote. Sturgeon even lost many votes in the last election because of going on about another referendum. And she has backed Catalonia when hardly any other leader in the world did. They don't like the way that the EU is run.

Just in case anyone didn't realise, here's part of the E.U. border fence which rivals any dreams Trump may come up with.

It consists of spotlights, watchtowers, TV cameras, motion and sound detectors and a road through the middle of the E.U side for patrols etc.

It's amazing this E.U. triple fence has not been in the news more.

Just like I don't call out those that say we will be poorer. You seem to ignore when I constantly say that we won't know until we know what sort of deal is on the table.

What is best for the UK is also what is best for the countries in the EU. Would you like to disagree with this?

My problem is that I have a feeling that thise running the EU would love to see us suffer. Then those that also want to see their country leave the EU would think again. I don't trust politicians of any sort or from any party. So would those running the EU be happy to see other residents of the EU suffer if it made us suffer even more?

Your guess is as good as mine.

They said unemployment would immediately go up. Since then we have had record employment. They said that house prices would immediately crash. They continued to go up. They said that we would immediately go into recession. We have had continued growth.

Or have we forgotten all of that?

And I linked an article explaining why the employment figures aren't all they're cracked up to be a couple of pages ago and yes, there is continued growth but we are miles behind other G7 countries.

Don't they also have a wall invetween Israel and Palestine?

Trump is absolutely hammered for asking to build his Mexico wall when the many EU countries want a wall to stop Muslims coming in. Walls have been built as shown because Eastern Europe are very worried about letting Muslims in big numbers and they don't fit their culture.

I'm not saying the wall pictured is right or wrong. That's opinion. What I would say is these Eastern European countries feel the need and go ahead with building these walls and fences. Why? And why does trump get blasted for the same thing when EU leaders don't?

Yes but fences are in place between Eastern Europe also and there is a massive fear there most noticeably by right wing leader vicktor orban of Hungary who doesn't mince his words.

It why I voted to leave in the referendum. Its gone far beyond a trading block. We should of had a vote on it years ago. It seems it just kept on being put off and put off until people treated the EU as a norm and voted that way.

Its not the democracy we are use to in the UK. We deserve better.

A lot of people who I know voted leave say the same. I am not enough to remember but reading and understanding we joined a "common market" it has evolved and morphed into a political union with one currency and one border and one army etc etc. some like Mart want this and that's fair enough. Many more don't though.
