Get the feeling we are not going to make 300 here.

This is much better. We were pinned back and the Aussies were looking really dangerous, but now we are flashing the blade a bit and being more aggressive and it is taking the pressure off and paying off for us.

Was thinking the exact same thing. Needs to be 400 or pretty darn close. Under 350 and I think we will struggle. Pitch is doing a bit, but you can play your shots.

Pitch Conditions play into England's hands, not a lot of pace, hopefully get some swing like the Aussies and Lyon more than likely bar an Aussie follow on won't be bowling 4th inns on a wicket that looks good for a spinner.

Not a bad day in all. Pretty even still but England haven't fallen apart and won't have lost any confidence for sure!

Forecast is for cloud and showers most days so might help us out a bit. If we can get to 400 then it'll set the standard for the rest of the series. If we can get there then I'd fancy us to go on and win the match which would be massive.

Solid enough start and well played Vince and Stoneman.

Although it came off today, it's easy to see why Vince struggled in his previous spell in Test Cricket. Plays too many shots outside the off stump and seems to have no regard for the length. Any sort of lateral movement and the slips are well and truly in the game.

With Rooooot and the farmer back in the Pavillion i reckon the Aussies will say they won today but i think Mo s gonna get going

On the radio last night / his morning it seemed the Aussies had picked Kevin Bloody Wilson as their keeper - as the effects mic picked up everything he said

i laughed like a drain when Vaughn followed up a comment about Boycs being the team manager - that there had a least been a runout - taking the day off tomorrow so i can watch tonight on the box

In theory he should do well in Australia as the Kookaburra ball tends to do little after 10-15 overs with regards to movement. The Day night game might be different though.

Yep agree. Considering he only averaged 30 something in First Class this year it was a brave call to pick him but I think they've done it based on what you said about lack of movement.

Not a bad start so far but Cook and Root's form is worrying.
For a batsman who is supposed to be one of the best in the world, it seems a long time since Root made a big score.
Could it be that the big names like Cook and Root will flop, and the ones we've been concerned about will do well?

Root averaging 57 in test matches in 2017. 2 x hundreds in 8 games including a 190. Also got 2 x 50's in last two tour matches including an 80 odd. Wouldn't be too worried about his form personally.

Game still very even, need a couple of wickets in the first hour tomorrow.

Aus won the first and last session with England winning the middle, cracking test so far!

Smith reminds me of Amla - he is going to be tough to get out and Marsh stubborn - Mo not getting the turn Lyon did - had the day off today so I could watch !

Losing our last 5 wickets for 50 runs wasn't great. Another 50-100 and we'd be in a very strong position.

Couple of quick wickets tomorrow and we're still in a good position, if they get a first innings lead of more than about 50 then I think we could have problems.

Good, cos I think we will lose. Am convinced the Aussies will surpass 300 and any reasonable lead (50 +) will be the difference I believe.

Happy to be proved wrong of course.

A day of missed opportunity. Poor collapse and a great start but we let them back in. I think they will be the happier side if they can keep smith through the new ball. This should be ripe for jimmy to rip it up. Hopefully he does tonight

I too think they will be happier. We all said we needed close to 400 and I still think that is the case. We are about 100 short of a winning total and will really have to bowl well tonight to be in with a chance. I do however fully expect the Aussies to overtake our first innings total.

Agree, I think we will do well to keep them near 300 but that will depend on getting Smith out. If this happens we need one of those long Cook innings to drag the day out and a draw might be a possibility. Fairly upbeat as we showed signs of hurting them but an early strike to wobble them is essential
