Sad really, when three points vs Chesterfield at home on New Year’s Day is arguably more important.

Agreed Stoke will be a pressure off game. But hardly in the big scheme of things anything as important as Three massive points vs Chesterfield.

Yet no doubt we may get more For Stoke.

Because it will be reasonably enjoyable unlike the league game.

There will be a large following meaning a better atmosphere and matchday experience.

Add the fact it will be cheaper than the league game...

Club should do an offer
Chesterfield should be a good crowd. They will bring a few (again not too far away). I reckon it may well be 10,000+ as long as we are still right up there and doing well.

Really hope so, desperately hoping for a better atmosphere at the Ricoh.

Home draw against a Prem club, even though not the most glamorous one.
Could have been a lot worse.
Can't see us getting past them though. The gulf in class has to be just too much for us with our inconsistent form.
I suspect Robins tactics will be very defensive which won't help either.

I dunno. I go to league 1 games and whilst league is more important as a cov fan i am excited to play a premier league team

Cup games are quite often exciting affairs and we will go all out for a win and Stoke will go all out for a win too. This isn't going to be one of the sit back, waste time, try not to lose kind of match-ups we have been encountering lately.

On their forum they're working out how many tickets we have to give them because they expect them to be in demand. We're moaning about a shit draw and half empty ground.

You'd think we were there PL team and they were the ones getting excited about playing a team with some big names.

Not exactly a great sign for any potential buyers if we only get 15K for our first home game against a PL side in nearly 9 years.
Attendances tend not to surge all of a sudden. Even when Jimmy Hill took over that did not happen. It will take solid improvements over a period of time, we need to be higher up the table, consistently winning at home, and signing exciting players. There needs to be a 'buzz' around the club. We are a long way from any of that happening. Once fans have drifted away, they are hard to get back.

It's always great to see the players give it their all, especially given how many local lads are in the team.

If we beat Stoke, despite what people like to think, it would be one of, if not the biggest cup upset in our history.

I don't think we'll go 'all out for a win'. When has Robins ever done that? He'll more likely set up defensively, try to avoid defeat and hope to hit them on the break.

If we can replicate the amazing atmosphere vs High Wycombe at home Checkatrade Semi last year would be more than happy. We sold 12k in One week. If they sell 5k.

It will be some atmosphere!

It’s not how many fans we have. It’s about together we are. As when we sing together! Like that day...was incredible atmosphere.

I was there for a game where everyone chanted "Tina" at Shilton and it was definitely against Derby, I think we won 3-0 with a lob by Gallacher. I never saw him play for Forest. I never knew the story but just remember being confused by the chant as young lad...
Football fans have long memories!! It was 1980 according to this. The 10 worst examples of footballers behaving badly | Sport | The Observer, which ties in with how I remember it. Half my family are from Nottingham & my first away game was last game of the season at Forest in 1981. Shilton got dogs abuse throughout, but still made brilliant save after brilliant save.

What division were we in when we beat Sunderland in 1963? Third division wasn't it? So 2 leagues difference. This would be 3.

I don't mean go all out in our play, I mean all out to win the match.

Whether you like it or not, this is the definition of a glamour tie for a reasonable league 2 / low end league 1 team. Of all the possible teams available in the draw we have pulled a premier league team at home. Crazy that people are whinging we could of drawn a better prem team after 10 years since we last played a proper club. We could easily have drawn Colchester away et al.

If we are lucky enough to see such quality players as Shaquiri and the like in the flesh then just enjoy it. We may be playing Tamworth and Nuneaton in the very near future!!

I wouldn’t worry about gates or how much we make, we could draw st Home win the replay at Stoke, draw the big boys Man United get a full house at Old Trafford and not one penny will find itself towards the football side of things, remember Spurs away, Arsenal away and Man United away and the 13000 Sky Blue fans who made the trip to Old Trafford where did all those receipts go ? and I won’t even start on last seasons Wembley exploits.
Why don't you have a look at the accounts for those years instead of rolling out this tired rubbish again. You'll see. No evidence that any of it went in SISU's back pocket

Come on, Fernando, we all know this is the selfie Seppala took after bagging all those gate receipts.

Great draw for us!

Typical Coventry mongs already fucking moaning about special offers and low attendances.

Fuck me lads you may as well slit your wrists now...

Great draw-good premiership club who ARE beatable and we at home.

All you knobheads who want half price tickets or moan about 11k attendance for this match should stay at home-where you can moan even more about how shit we were.

Dont know why people see this as a disappointing draw really... prem team at home i think the attendance will be 20,000 plus with them selling out the away end. Also dont get why people think they will put a 2nd string side out? its the FA cup not the League cup and it will be a Saturday game. I expect a strong side from Stoke.

I think had it been drawn away the reaction would have been different. Would have sold the 4000 they would have given us.

I know it’s a premier league side but fuckin boring Stoke!

Good thing is Hughes will play a second string as I have a feeling they will be fighting to stay away from that third relegation spot.

Totally underwhelmed.

Don’t get this at all.

I am sure the same would have been said for Brighton, Swansea, West Bromwich, Watford, Burnley

For a club the size of ours, this is a big draw. As someone pointed out earlier, their 3rd choice goalie is likely to be paid the same amount a season our starting 11

I'll go, but can't say I'm particularly excited for it.

I'd expect around 20k. These estimates of 10k are nonsense. They'll sell out whatever we give them, which will probably be around 6k. You'll also have loads of younguns wanting to go because they've never seen a Premier League club play live.

We're small time now, remember?

Just checked Stoke 3rd round line up for last season
They put a strong side out but still lost 0 2 at home to Wolves
21,000 there which I guess would have included a big number of Wolves fans
Wolves was a Championship side, 2 divisions above us so can't really compare.

Stoke in a potential relegation battle this year though?

ISTR when we were in the Premiership and struggling the managers used cup games against lower league opposition to improve morale. by winning

I don't see the massive issue with it, I'd bet most of the people moaning most didn't bother with the last 2 games anyway.

I was a bit underwhelmed compared to a Man City or a Chelsea but it's still a Premier League team at home.

agreed. Klopp.made 10 changes when Liverpool played league two Plymouth last season and Exeter the season before, Bournemouth made 11 against Millwall. Stoke will undoubtedly made changes and play a more of a second string against us.

So a better chance of us winning and therefore people should get their butts up there for a potential upset.

There seems to be a big suggestion of reduced ticket pricing. Is this the norm? I can't remember the cost for the Chelsea game. I'd be surprised if they went lower than twenty quid for what will be a guaranteed decent crowd.

Charge the glory hunters triple.

Those with previous round match stubs, or season ticket holders. Reduced price for loyalty.

Yes but the game has moved on since then, the FA Cup an even lower priority for some clubs. The financial imperative of staying in the PL trumps all

Love the draw, Stoke are a team who regularly get knocked out by lower league teams. Not saying we will win, but should be a good crowd and a great opportunity to progress so long as we turn up on the day, looking forward to this one.
