How can you refuse anyone entry or kick them out? If someone says they have an exemption you're not allowed to question it. From what has been said on here in other countries its been wear a mask at all times when you leave the house. Simple, easy to follow and totally unambiguous.

I do believe it should be more enforced in supermarkets which are a hot spot.

I was in Cornwall 2 weeks ago and they would not let you in a shop without a mask.

Almost like they are economically illiterate, It would also cost more to keep 2 people at 33% (the minimum to qualify) hours.

For each person they would have to pay the 33% basic and then top up an extra 22% meaning that for 66% FTE hours they are paying 110% FTE wages.

I think the aim of it is to make people work at least 55% of the time in reality, they have just misrepresented it for a headline. The reality is that the government is really willing to pay a subsidy of 22% subject to an employer paying 55%. Shite.

I've not always lapped up everything but I always follow the fucking rules and restrictions, even if you think its stupid just sigh and do what's asked of you... It's really not hard

The talk going into the announcement, which given how this government operates presumably was 'leaked' to the media, was that Sunak would introduce a similar scheme to Germany.

From what I can make out, and I could have this completely wrong as its going off a quick google, the German scheme sees the state pay 60 or 67% depending on if you have children (increasing to increased to 70 or 77% after 4 months and 80 or 87% after 7 months). The cost to the employer remains the same. Am I missing something or is this scheme nothing like the German one?

It almost seems like its designed so that the government can say they did something rather than a serious attempt to avoid mass redundancies.

It is similar as the German scheme is a scheme which is a part time lay off scheme. It’s not really a furlough scheme - France is also now similar with caveats that make full time lay offs impossible

Germany will not allow full time lay offs on their scheme

It is similar as the German scheme is a scheme which is a part time lay off scheme. It’s not really a furlough scheme - France is also now similar with caveats that make full time lay offs impossible

Absolutely agree that everyone has to follow the isolation rules.

The report the data is pulled from seems to suggest that childcare and not being able to afford time of work as being two major contributors to the high numbers. Would seem to indicate that we don't have the right support systems in place for people who need to isolate.

Lack of tests will be contributing as well I suspect. If you feel well but are told to isolate a negative test would release you back into the world. If you can't get a test, or aren't eligible for a test, is that prompting people to just ignore the instructed isolation?

Think you can get a home one without any problem

Yes because

1. Germany doesn't have a massive service economy like the UK, they're still majority productive industry. In non public facing jobs. Manufacturers here didn't shut down to the same extent as other businesses where they had orders to fulfil.
2. They did mass testing quickly and established track and trace. The UK still hasn't really managed to do this.

France opened production in April - it’s not actually anything to do with track and trace it’s because we had a full shutdown option

I don't know a single colleague who doesn't want to scrap the restrictions and do the job normally. The way I'm attempting to deliver a practical subject in random rooms confined to a box and unable to hand a sheet to a student is almost comical if it weren't me doing it

There is a shortage of skilled politicians of both red and blue varieties, but I'd prefer to have Starmer in now instead of Johnson. And that's mostly because the latter is in the running for worst post-war PM

2. Told a pack of lies on Brexit which are already coming to roost and has put the union in its weakest position possibly since it was founded

3. Schools-nuff sed

4. Breaking the law last year to force through his Brexit proposal, and trying to break international law this year to get around his shit deal on Northern Ireland

5. Failing to bin off Cummings after he broke the COVID rules in absurd fashion

6. Binning off anyone competent from the Cabinet based on their Brexit stance

Honestly I could go on for quite a while and he's barely been in office a year-he's a national embarrassment who should be nowhere near No. 10

Pretty disgraceful really. I was less than impressed when Johnson talked about people not following rules this week (as I think as a country we have followed measures pretty well overall, especially during lockdown) but guessing this is what he was talking about.

Two caveats. I can’t imagine people leaving the house and going for a walk outside with a mask on as being a huge risk. Also a quirk with the trace and track text system whereby you need to continue to isolate for the full 14 days even if your test comes back as negative and you dont have symtoms. Weird !

Surely two weeks, to both protect others at higher risk, as well as also minimise risk of a further stiricter lockdown for everyone, is not too much to ask though !

ps waiting for various people to crunch numbers of new employment scheme but despite some negative comments on here, seen positive responses from TUC and CBI. No scheme is going to be without it’s faults (it feels a bit clunky) but hopefully it will help keep large numbers borderline redundancies in work. As already mentioned on here though, one major issue is elements of hospitality that can’t operate at all (due to government measures) such as nightclubs and theatres, don’t appear to be getting any help....hope this is to follow.

The death toll is only so high because we record deaths diffrent to everywhere bar America, give it a few years after the virus has cleared and it will come out the true statistics.
