Some front line nhs staff up here have already had the jab but it rolls out officially on 4th Jan.....let's hope they dont delay it with more admin fuck ups as were gonna need them all at work to fight this 3rd wave.....just hope they (and our condemned hospital) can cope....
Yes and as I was thinking last night, don't want too many staff off that are manufacturing the vaccine.

Kidding or not , it's actually taken 3 months Steve so guess it reflects the reality of concluding on what is actually happening.

The three months was based on retrospective analysis though wingy. I’m pretty confident that the comparable timelines and actions (in relation to discovery of virus/strain) will reflect far better on us than China, but who knows for sure and kind of irrelevant now anyway. We’re all in the shit !

Blair makes some good points in his article. We should be using the first doses as they come in rather than holding half back for the second dose and looking at targeting spreaders as well as the vulnerable. It’s clear it’s impossible to throw too much resource at the vaccination program considering the ongoing economic cost of the pandemic. There really should be no reason not to get this done.
I agree, but I think possibly the logistics of administering may be an issue and they'll be conscious of over promising. I'm sure in reality the NHS will get out as many as they possibly can. Also by limiting you have to remember how many pricks we have in society. You can imagine the queue jumping and downright anarchy complaining that someone had theirs before someone else who didn't and how in whatever way they perceive 'that's not fair'. I think putting into bands where everyone knows the order prevents some of that and at least people know what window they're in. Hopefully as it goes on every window can be brought forward.

Yes and the antigen mass testing values that I was trying to get across to David previously ,sees no other option but for the health passport too , essential really or east Will never meet West Will it?

To be fair they have trained up a huge number of people to administer the vaccine beyond nurses. As the less sensitive vaccines are approved and rolled out the easier it will get. Just this Pfizer one that needs the second jab

I had something but wasn't tested so I don't know. Felt a lot worse then though as I feel completely fine this time. Just taking extra precautions.

Speaking to Sky News, drivers said they did not have a problem with British authorities after ugly scenes this morning when hauliers and police officers scuffled.

One driver said that the shutting of the border was not about COVID but was “the politics game”.

He added that the closure was probably down to Brexit.

Another driver called for President Macron to be gone for not being able to help people get home to their own countries.

Those hauliers on the ground say they are not able to book the tests required for them to cross the Channel, and that they want to stay put in the port until they can leave for the continent.

just sums up whats heading next year wankers, wankers everywhere

Yep. Meant to be having my son tonight as well. I’m gutted, had a cough for a few days but temperature came on last night. Other than that feel fine though.
Hopefully it's something else, then.

Friend of mine got Covid. Just to cheer us all up he developed symptoms so got a test that came back negative. Literally day after his result his partner got symptoms, got a test - positive. So friend got another test that this time was positive.

Feel for anybody who gets it now. Bad enough at the best of times, but we all deserve some kind of Christmas, in whatever form!

Be interested to know FP’s take but been told by the wife of a friend who works fairly high up in the NHS that general consensus within NHS management that the government are deliberately overplaying the new strain card as a get out of jail free card because they didn’t lockdown soon enough, didn’t lockdown long enough, shouldn’t have called the Xmas bonanza, shouldn’t have put London into tier 2 and numerous other mistakes over the last couple of months leading to numbers running away.
The overplaying which has now led to chaos all around the country.

So the government scientists are in on it too? To what end?

I don’t think that the government advisors are in on it at all. Their job is to advise not govern. Is there a new strain,yes. They advised. Does it behave differently to previous strains, yes. They advised. Have they advise that we panic? Does the government then take this advice and govern, yes.
You have to remember this is the same government that didn’t react soon enough in the first wave despite the advice coming from SAGE, alternative SAGE and a whole raft of experts. The same government who didn’t react as quickly as the devolved governments when SAGE held a press conference before half term. Northern Ireland went back into lockdown and extend half term to two weeks, for instance. The same government that put London into tier two when numbers were still rising and London has now practically gone from tier two to tier four. All of this against the advice of SAGE, they weren’t in on it then and they aren’t in on it now. Their remit ends at advise, any under reaction or over reaction is down to government and how they govern.

Doesn't the AZ vaccine require a 2nd jab as well?

From people I work with in the NHS the main agenda item is all vaccination roll out, I haven't really discussed anything much about the mutation. I think it's both true that the mutation exists and that the Tories will seek to blame it on the increase in cases (which has some validity but not to the extent they'll play it)

I'm sure you've spent a decent amount of energy this year arguing with people claiming there's something untoward going on, the science doesn't add up, the authorities aren't to be trusted etc. Now you're doing the exact same thing by spreading rumours from a friend of a friend.

I’ve always trusted the science, I don’t believe that the government has. I believe that when the science smacks the government in the face the second time they act and its too late. The government has always been reactive not proactive. The government learned the sum total of fuck all from the first lockdown. The government wasted the first lockdown and the time it brought especially in preparing schools for a return, testing and track and trace.
The problem from the start has been the government not their scientific advisors, governments govern, advisors advise.

You've got to admit though that the government having Tier 4 places neighbouring Tier 2 ones is illogical. It's of course only coincidental that the Tier 2 places are basically all Tory constituencies.

Yes, clearly the government has completely botched the tiers from the start. But I don't think that necessarily means they're now "deliberately overplaying" the new variant. Nor do I think it's wise to undermine the new advice, just because you heard it from your friend's wife.

The figures around this are plucked from the air before the data has been thoroughly scrutinised.
The words and statements being used extremely dramatic.
On December 13th there were 1108 notified case's of this variant from a period spanning three months when several hundreds of thousands were recorded.
The 70% figure has already been revised down to 50% ,I wouldn't be surprised if it were revised again further down the line to something between 20 and 30% .
So what does 70% more transmissibility really mean .
Statistics can pretty much mean anything dependant on how you present them.
Does the initial presentation offer the Gov't cover for their failure?
The flagship policy of insisting children stay in school and are low risk has been exposed and 'Will' have to be shut for a period .

Edit:- dependant on how long you've lived you get a sense of when things are spun .
This feels like one , just like the Iraq dossier

It just sounds so far-fetched that this is a cover-up to improve the government's image. Is this really what people are taking away from all this? Sounds to me like the equivalent of telling the world that you've shat yourself to cover up that you farted earlier.
